His touch is superb..

He can drop his shoulder and go past a player with ease..

His awareness of whats around him is the best at the club..

He can pick a pass..

His flicks which don't always come off, are simply fantastic to watch when they do..

He tackles back, and is good at it..

He gets in great positions and is calm.

He's good at penalties (I know) but he is.

All in all I guess what I'm saying is ' I'm so glad Goldy is ours, and for me he is a sheer joy to watch, I love him.....well done Chris for bringing this bundle of joy to us.

He's a bloody good footballer and adds so much to our game. A great bit of business from Wilder and Knill to get him in. Both Leeds and Forest fans I know said they’d have taken him in the summer.

However, as mentioned on the other thread, his finishing is poor. Also, I’m all for doing stepovers and that, but I was tearing my hair out in the first half when he tried it and gave the ball away in a dangerous area.

Plays like hes enjoying his football.. some of his touches are quality!

Surprising timing to make this post in my view. Yes McGoldrick has some good qualities but he has missed a few chances of late and of course the penalty was a major miss. He's got awareness of others but I wouldn't say he eases past people in my view. He can make himslef a yard of space but won't dribble past someone. That's not his game in my view. I think he's a decent option off the bench for either Duffy or Leon but I prefer both Duffy and Leon in preference to McGoldrick.

For a free transfer he's done well but in January we must sign someone more clinical in my view up top and someone to rival Duffy for the number 10 role.

That's my view anyway and don't get me wrong I do like McGoldrick but I think Leon offers more than McGoldrick and Sharp and/or Washington will generally start as a different option to Leon or McGoldrick.

Think his performances against Rotherham and Brentford have been his worst to date. In both matches on numerous instances his second touch was a tackle.
He does however have the ability to link play better than any of our forwards and has proven earlier in the season that he is a good finisher. I would give him a rest on Saturday and play Washington and Sharp

Thought the way we set up last night with 3 in midfield and then DMac in the 10 role really did work. Even more so as we had some pace with Washington up top.

All in all another tactical masterstroke from Tufty.

Those criticising him for not addressing our midfield issues after Saturday should be equally as vociferous in applauding him for the subtle change in tactics and personnel.

Agree except Duffy awareness just tops his.

Wow! Let's all laugh at Ipswich for releasing him :)

wasn't he on 20K per week at Ipshite which is why they wouldn't renew his contract?

I don’t think that’s a massive amount for a championship striker these days. If you’re only going to pay L1 wages, you’re likely to end up in L1.

Are you suggesting our manager had a Plan B for last night Rog? If so, I don't understand because I have seen numerous times on here that our manager does not have a Plan B:confused::rolleyes:

I'm sure Chris says "your welcome, Mrs Mcgoldrick.".

All about opinions isn’t it? Fair points, but I think McG is a very clever footballer who makes us tick and keeps the ball really well. Finishing not brilliant, but he’s exactly what we need apart from that. Leon is just Leon - incredibly frustrating, looks like he’s half asleep, pops up with some great finishes though.

If you could give McG the finishing of Leon, it’d be my best creation idea since giving Baxter the professionalism of Basham.

That there penalty. Not really a miss as it was on target but saved. Same goes for a few of his chances. Goal line clearances etc.
At least his efforts are on target.
At least he has a go and dosen't pass out wide every time like some

You’re not wrong there. Some of our players are too keen to spray it about, like a Deer in season, casting its spraint.

Won fuk all in the air against rovrum, Clarke came on and won quite a few. Just sayin.

Yeah, he fell in a field just up the road from me. A small town oitside Hastings called Battle, (such imagination).

I suppose Jose could have been our McGoldrick for the years, if things had worked out better.

In my view Leon on form is one of the best in this league and that's some achievement as a 33 year old that cost us £130,000 or whatever it was, it was peanuts. Yes he can be frustrating but if we give him service he is an excellent finisher. Sadly Billy, who is most commonly up there with Leon, doesn't have pace to compliment Leon's hold up play and Leon doesn't have pace either to compliment Billy's predator instincts and therefore both in my view are more suited to playing alongside someone who can do endless running and preferably at pace. This is where Washington comes in but I'd rather it be Washington and Leon than Washington and Billy, because Leon has the aireal threat and is more of a presence up there.

I'm not saying Washington should start every game but for me he needs to be used more, and I expect he will be now. I wouldn't have said this before Tuesday though, I'm not claiming that, but now we've seen what Washington can bring I think we'd be daft not to use him more.

In January its a priority in my view that we get another striker who can offer some height and target man ability because that is something we could do with off the bench and preferably someone with pace as an option too, but maybe Washington can be that man now.

Agreed - but the secretive chairman and alleged ticket tout boss of Ipswich appears to have got fed up with spending his money and funding Ipswich, hence the fire sale in the summer, including McG and why they are in the position they are in now.

The overspending by clubs in the Championship is daft.

£20K per week might be the norm, it will all end in tears at some point.

A point that has been made every season for the past 20....and yet to happen.

Yes, agree it has been talked about for donkeys years, but somebody posted the spending of clubs a few weeks ago, and that list is now unsustainable.

Did CW say 9 or 11 are on FFP limits pre-season?

The pigs in big trouble at season end without selling in the JTW?

FFP is now biting the clubs in the arse as the rules about the 3 year spending limits kick in and work their way through.

QPR to pay £40m after a lengthy 3 year court battle in Oct 2017 was a game changer, which is why the clubs are realising the game is up and those 9 to 11 clubs are apparently playing by the new rules. Not quite sure what happened to the Birmingham issue where they signed someone while under curfew though.
