A few home truths

Au contraire, they'll just start comparing us to Bradford instead of Wednesday....."Do you want us to end up like that, be careful what you wish for, I'm just glad I still have a etc etc etc"

I for one would have been pissed off if he'd sacked Warnock after he got us promoted, surely he deserved a crack at the perm as he had got us there. His big mistake was sacking him when we went down. Would you give Speed the sack if he gets us to the prem? Cant see many managers wanting to come here if thats how we reward them

Agreed totally. Overall McCabe has been good for the club and we could be in a much worse state. However he has made some mistakes (don't we all). The biggest in my opinion was sacking Neil when we went down. He had vast experience and knowledge of the championship. Hindsight is a great thing but I did predict QPR would win the league this year. Speed may come good and at least we will see football at the lane, I just feel if McCabe had shown some loyalty to Neil we could have bounced back sooner and Neil would have learnt some lessons on managing a premiership club for the next time.

He didn't sack Neil. His contract had ended and he wanted a pay rise to stay on, despite getting us relegated.

Aside from the managers that actually want 1 year rolling deals so they have flexibility to leave (e.g. Coppell), can anyone give another example where a manager has got a club promoted to the top division and then has a contract that expires at the end of that 1 season?

Anyone who thinks McWobblegob has done a good job at BDTBL is a best drunk/high and at worst thick.

Brownie,

While I may not agree on the whole I doff my cap in your general direction for both your initial post and response to my initial ones. A rare treat.

I can only assume you haven't seen United play this season if you believe it's as plausible for us to be in the Prem in a year's time or haven't noticed we've scored 5 goals in 10 games.
I've no problem with someone defending McCabe, I think on the whole he's relatively well meaning. But he has royally ferked up the opportunity we had to establish ourselves both in Sheffield, ahead of Wednesday, and nationally as a strong, stable club.
The end game's approaching at S6 whereas we are drowning in mediocrity, lack of transparency and lack of communication.
McCabe's benefited hugely from the car crash at our rivals and that accounts for a lot of the blind eyes turned to his evident failures at United.
It's obvious to me that if we go down or if they sort themselves out, Brownie's view or anyone else's relatively protective view of McCabe will dissolve into a much, much more questioning one.
Longer term, that might not be a bad thing. At the moment, the relationship between the club and the fans is broken, very few believe anything the club says, there's no clarity and thousands have walked and more will do so until that situation changes.

On the contrary Lenners, I've seen quite a few games so far this season, but you again read the bits you wanted to in my post. I said that making a statement about us being in League 1 is just as irrelevant as saying we'll be in the PL.

Again, the majority of what you say above is irrelevant and full of what ifs.

Is the relationship between the club and the fans broken? I don't believe so, I believe the club are doing plenty to communicate with the fans, whether they listen to the questions is another thing.

I don't believe my view of McCabe will change if we go up, down or stay where we are.

Fiery ,you critisise the club for making wholesale changes instead of fine tuning, and end the post by saying start from scrath ditch the lot and start again.

Pretty bad seeing the gaps in the kop and John Street yesterday Swiss. That should tell you all need to know about the link between fans and the club. Thousands mised the third goal because they aint bothered anymore even if they have turned up. There was hardly mass excitement when Lowton scored (more a deep sense of shock). Great following from Burnley and at least another 2k freebies in Bramall Lane upper. You think what you like obviously, no problem, and it aint just a SUFC problem I have to admit.

What is your view of McCabe anyway?

Good stuff from Speedo and the lads yesterday. Monty may have been injured but no doubt at all for me we got a better spectacle because he wasn't in the team. Conceding 3 goals will give weight to arguments that we missed him but I certainly didn't.

Yes attendances are down but I fear thats more to do with fans not wanting to pour money in during this crap spell. Nice to know we have so many fickle fans.

Many whom yourself and others claim weren't renewing whilst Mr Blackwell was in charge have perhaps not renewed for other reasons, which kind of kills all of those arguments from March-Aug this year.

Dunno where you were but the excitement lifted the crowd around me on the Lowton goal! I was as chuffed then as I ever have been.

My view of McCabe has been mentioned a few times and I'll no doubt summarise it in the next few weeks.

Good result in the end, but having Monty back instead of Ertl would really boost us. But thats off topic on this thread

Is it heck full of ifs. We've had ten years to cement United as the premier club in Sheffield and ballsed it up.
As for the relationship with the fans, the huge drop in crowds says it all - and that includes big numbers of long-term fans. You really think they don't look at what the club says, compare it with what it does and think 'no thanks, you must think we're stupid'?

Well it is full of ifs, you're talking about relegation which after 10-15 games is no more predictable than promotion.

Is the huge drop in support to do with people listening to McCabe/ Birch or is it a combination of many factors - mainly poor results.

As I said, many used Mr Blackwell as the reason for people not renewing, yet now he's gone the argument has been focused onto the board. Its not factual, its speculation. That leads us nicely back to the point of this thread - too many people have been chucking speculation, conspiracy and downright bollocks behind their arguments and claiming it to be fact.... where as in many cases its been completely unfounded.

Brownie has highlighted that its not just us in the shite, yes we've gambled at times but is any of the debt short term, are the club looking for immediate success again. The time has passed where we could hope to buy our way out of this league, its a time of reconciliation and a time to build the club back up.

The signs that these things are happening have been cleared a little since the summer. Pemberton, academy focus and now Speed's new philosophy to play a more attractive style of football are proving that were using the opportunity.

What all this means for our future in this division depends on so much and to predict where we will end the season is almost impossible - we could be in any one of three divisions next year.

Almost impossible? I'd say about 95% chance we will be in the same division next season. Don't think I've contradicted that elsewhere in saying we are going down!! Could be close at times but doubt it, much better yesterday for me.

I wish you'd be a bit less sure about people throwing speculation about and claiming it to be fact. That is simply not the case. Examples? Yuu're throwing these comments about with no evidence which is similar to what you're saying is happening on here. My figures come from the accounts, everything else is speculation but that is what the forum is for. If it is bollocks then we have a discussion about it.

I'm also puzzled about your impossible to predict comment. It's a fans forum. What's the problem? I think almost certain we'll stay up but it could be pretty close, say by 7 points. Has anyone said we will go down, I don't think so.

Mic, you may be right that we'll be in this div next year, but its still far to early to tell one way or another. I'd inclined to think that the Championship is where we'll be for the next couple of years.

When I can be bothered/ have the time i'll dig back through some of the wilde statements to get you some examples, but People have speculated on all sorts of things - throughout the summer, until Mr Blackwell was fired and ever since. Tenuous links to Hotel debt (has anyone found out what kind of debt this is, mortgage/ short term etc), McCabe selling up, Takeover's, Investment, Sponsorship, Chengdu, Fradi, Dropping attendances and of course your favourite - Blades Realty. All of which is then used to support various arguments that are without substance. You may use accounts, but you've even speculated as to why the accounts were late, because they were struggling or whatever you said (can't remember exactly).

As for being impossible to predict this season thats just what I think, I don't know where we'll be but things are so unstable on the pitch right now that it could go anyway.
