Still reckon we need some pace or someone who can change a game? Or is Washington our 'pace? Wouldn't be too fussed if Clarke or Washington went.

I think Dowell and Madine between them are seen as the pair who could change a game.

Dowell, potentially, with a touch of flair or shot from range. Madine with his physicality; either that or he twohats the opposition CB and gets red carded. :(

Both adding things we don't have. Effective use of limited resources

Pace only counts if they're good enough to actually get on the pitch!

I like Washington but he's hardly a 'pace option' because he'll struggle to get in the squad from now on.

Johnson is another option, he's purely an attacking player and has played up front before. At least he's always likely to be on the bench.

I'd like a better option but it'll be difficult finding a pacy type who's good enough to get serious game time.

I think the jury is well and truly out on wether or not the circa £1m it is costing to fund the GM loan deal for 5 months represents effective or not.

At that price he HAS to have a positive impact.

Time will tell !

Agree, we still don’t possess those 2 types of strikers.

However regards a striker who can change a game and basically score from nothing you’re talking decent PL ability, in today’s market this would cost a minimum 20 to 30 million, so its currently impossible.

Regards a pacey striker, this is really useful to bring on as sub when we’re sitting back for the last 10 mins trying to hold on to a lead. Wilder would probably say Washington is the pacey striker option.

I don't believe there was a better or more experienced player of that type available.

If you think we needed a target man, Madine was as good as it gets on loan

As for target men, I would've preferred Tom Eaves permanently for about 500k - he's out of contract next summer. Bit younger than Madine. Has 14 goals already for Gillingham, with no penalties. Ideal plan B signing, with no pressure to start him regularly.

I'd get rid of Johnson off the bench before Washington. Johnson has had plenty of time for a sub and has yet to do anything positive for me, his main talent seems to be coming on when we need a goal and kicking it out for a goal kick.

It leaves us short of defensive options from the bench but with our record of going defensive maybe that's not such a bad thing.

It's all about having a better starting line-up and having more options off the bench. Dowell and Madine potentially give us both so from that point of view, job done.

Think dowell starts ahead of duff for me

We need another Billy Sharp with a bit of extra pace, but we aren’t going to get another one in so let’s just hope he doesn’t get injured. Washington was the answer but sadly not producing at the moment.

In terms of numbers, I would say 5 strikers is enough. 2 goal scorers, 2 physical strikers and a link up player

I take it you didn't see the Barnet game?
Or read Wilders comments afterwards?
I know he's gone onto say Madine and Dowell might be in this weekend's squad but I definatley don't think he will start at the expense for Duffy for a few weeks at least.

A young fast Billy Sharp would cost about £20 million.

Eaves has had 10 clubs at 26 and prior to tlast season had hit 20 in 130 games at lower level. He is in a purple patch but is nowhere near good enough for the Championship.
Same goes for Marquis 26 years old ,before this spree he had 30 goals in a 150 apps at lower level.
I know they are stats and I really am not one for stats ,but having seen both of them I really don't think they are anywhere near the strikers we have ,their records are similar to Caolan Lavery ,would you have him back ?

I think Marquis has limitations but he seems to be steadily improving. Eaves definitely seems to be on the up. Players like this shouldn't always be disregarded. There are always players who develop/peak late.

Eaves in particular would at least be a physical handful for defenders at Championship level. And he (like Madine) seems more flexible and fleet footed than your typical lump. I think he needs to keep playing every week though, if I was him I'd be looking at a top end L1 or SPL club. He's one of those who only made scattered appearances earlier in his career, with loan spell after loan spell, settling nowhere. Sometimes a consistent run of games brings out that early potential, I think that's what's happening with him. But he needs to carry on playing.

It appears we were unwilling to either 1) add any wages past June or 2) Gamble on inexperienced players at this level. Or a combo of both

Crying out now for a dedicated fast right winger, bring him on after 75 mins at nil nil, only job to stand on half way line til receiving the ball then run like F**k with it to the by line and cross for machine.

We’ve already got a L1 standard striker on loan at Fleetwood, we don’t need 2 more.

Karlon Grant would be my pick from the lower leagues, he’s not prolific but he’s very, very quick.

I am more in the Duffy to start camp myself, at least in the short term until Dowell get's fully up to speed but it will be interesting to see.
Along with McG we have 3 nice creative options now!

Cause he’s a better player and Duffy hasn’t been in great form recently

What makes him a better player?

And in what way is Duffy out of form? He's been integral to build up play in our 3 consecutive league wins, scoring in his last game...

Is Dowell in good form for that matter? Didn't look like it against Barnet, not that I'm drawing any conclusions.
