I always thought it was Boundary Park, always bloody freezing whenever we go there I know that, ah well.

Here's one for the quizzers out there to get your mates, nearest ground to the River Mersey is Stockport. Not quite as good a question these days as they're no longer a League club though.

Love a good bit of footy ground trivia.

Furthest English league grounds on all points of the compass:
North: Newcastle
East: Norwich
South: Plymouth
West: Plymouth

Smallest capacity league ground in England - Trick question, it is Shielfield Park, home of Berwick Rangers; Kingsmeadow (AFC Wimbledon) has the smallest capcity in the English League.

Only ground with a pub on every corner - Griffin Park

Closest English league grounds: City Ground and Meadow Lane

Only two venues to have hosted an FA Cup Final and a Test Match - The Oval and BDTBL

(Ex) Tallest floodlights: Bellend road
Hottest Pies: Selhurst park (especially for Crouchy )
Only ground that combines football pitch and swimming facilities: the sty, circa 2007 :-)

The pie heater on that side stand at Selhurst Park was powered by weapons grade Plutonium. Pies cooled to an edible temperature with about 40 minutes gone of the second half. Pity we didn't have that stand when we played Wimbledon that time just before the Arsenal semi and it was the coldest spring evening in history, we could have huddled around one of the pies...

It's true. I bought one before the start once and it was so hot I put it in my pocket to cool down a bit. It was still too hot to eat at half time

Have they played in div 3 and league 1? (splitting hairs I know!)

Belle Vue used to have the biggest pitch in English football.
I think along with Maine Rd.... Back to Belle Vue, I played on it in 1970 against Donny Rover's juniors for the S&H U18's (Charles Green was in Donny's team and he was good, believe me!).
The first corner I took, I placed the ball, looked up and thought, fuck me, I'll never reach the box with this! It looked miles away and the biggest playing surface, it surely was!
I drove the corner in like a keeper taking a goal kick :-)

Im sure theyve been in div 3 and obviously with being in league 1 now id say so :) but i know they have never been in league 2 since it was re-named.

swindon town is the only football club in england and scotland that doesnt contain any of the letters in mackerel.:)

im gonna look a right numpty if this is wrong :D

There is no oil under the Beach in Barcelona. The bird near me has an enormous pair of tits and I've been drilling for it for the last half an hour.

Third Division (North)...1925-26
Third Division (South),,,1926-27 to 1935-36
Third Division (South),,,1952-53 to 1957-58
Fourth Division...1958-59
Third Division (South),,,1959-60 to 1963-64

There first season in Division One was 1967-68. They drew 0-0 at Southampton on the final day and had they been beaten, it would have been them, not us, who went down with Fulham - on goal difference.

Instead, they survived and spent the next 34 (THIRTY FOUR) years in the top flight, until relegation in 2000-01.

League 1 has followed, but League 2 remains unchartered territory.

I had the same experience at a Friday night game there against Wimbledon. Other than us buggering up a win in the last few minutes - which seemed to happen a lot there - the ever scolding pie was the only part of the game I remember.

They have also both hosted full England International football matches. I have also been pissed in both of them as well :)

Trent Bridge has also hosted England football and cricket matches, but not the Cup final.

There is only one ground in England that was used in the 1966 world cup that still looks as it did in 1966 ;)

That's a good point about pitch size - as a junior you sometimes think you are half decent until you play for the first time on a proper full size pitch - brings you down to earth a bit.

Worst sport for that is snooker.

I had a 5 by 3 table that went on the dinner table at home and thought I was Steve Davies. Then aged about 14 got into Langtons on London Road and thought chuff me. Could hardly see the other end of the table!

Yep agree with that about snooker - spent many a school holiday in an upstairs snooker hall in the centre of Rotherham (bottom of a hill?) and it's bloody daunting after playing on kids tables. Still can't really play either!

Stadium facts from the continent: Villarreal's stadium is big enough to hold half the city's inhabitants but FK Drnovice of Czech Republic have a capacity 3x the municipal population

Rewinding 6 years from my original post, my junior school,(Heeley Bank), played the semis and final of the Sanderson Trophy (U11) on the Ball Inn. That was a huge pitch too and for under 11's a bit ridiculous, but that's how it was in the 60's (and beyond).
We played on it 3 times in a week (drawn semi, semi replay, then final).
The poor little 10/11 year olds need no rocking to sleep that week, I can tell you! :-)

I know it's non league, but I think Buxton Town have the highest ground in England...wonder if there's a list for Non League grounds..Hallam must be up there..Stayleybridge Celtic,Emley must be high up aswell.

According to Wikipedia Silverlands, Buxtons ground is over a 1000ft above sea level, and has a capacity just over 5000.
