Agree with Finchley,

It's quite funny when you think about it.
DCL was our 5th choice striker and even now wouldn't get in our team.
So on that basis it was a great deal for us at the time and arguably his sale helped us gain promotion.

The club was dying in league 1, so planning for the future was very low on the priorities, it was all about urgent and immediate promotion, so youngsters with potential had less value to the club because we couldn't afford to be patient.

Now we're in the Championship the landscape changes, now we can and will plan for the future.
People need to relax....,there's no way Brooks will be sold on the cheap.

The problem occurs if we get a bid for, say £4 million with him offered £15 a week wages for 5 years, setting him up for life?
That's my main concern but I can't imagine us getting any bids close to this until he's played a few matches.

So I'm 99% confident we've got him until at least Xmas but if he impresses and we get a bid around £5 million with a loan back until the end of the season clause

then I do worry that we'll accept a large bid in the JTW with McCabe saying his usual blurb of it's a great piece of business and shows how fantastic our Academy is at producing players.
You hit the nail on the head.

The problem comes if he gets an opportunity to get £15k a week.

In that scenario only the player can decide if he will stay or go.

If he decides to go then we get whatever we can. It's completely out of our hands so what anyone thinks he should be worth is completely irrelevant.

I disagree, I think he'd now be a great partner for Sharp.
I must admit at the time I wasn't bothered about losing DCL so much - it was Adams I wanted to keep. We lost both! Adams recently was subject to a 5 million REJECTED bid from Fulham.

Whereas Sheffield United were subject of a multi million pound boost as a result of earning promotion :)

Running any business and any football club is all about managing resources and timing and getting most decisions right.

Selling Che was a no-brainer, he wasn't that good for us, not in the team and had attitude history.

Danny, at a time when things are going well try not to pick on that small percentage of matters that didn't quite suit you. The whole is more important than the parts and as a part Ched had as many detractors on here as admirers. Getting money in helped us sign maybe three very good players who were important getting us promoted, let's say Moore, Fleck and O'Connell.

Look at the whole, all ins and all outs and decide whether our manager did a good job. I know what I think and no, I didn't rate Che anyway.. The bid from Fulham is hard for me to understand looking at Che's season at Brum alone, let alone what we saw.

In Football Heaven tonight the Barnsley manager said re his players who left last season that they grew quicker than the club and inevitably would move on. The club has to keep growing and put itself in a position to keep such players in the future by growing big enough quickly enough. That's it in a nutshell.

Also all the managers agreed how difficult it was to introduce young inexperienced players into their first teams. Thankfully Wilder did say there may be more opportunities this season, I'd say presumably because vital points might not be at stake in every game right until the last day of the season. If we are relatively safe in mid-table come February Brooks will get games if he is still performing. If he gets in before then it will be purely on merit not mainly for his development.
