50 days ago, the Good Friday miracle

I set off to Bramall Lane with my mind on the play offs, we had a tricky game at home to Forest and Leeds had a straightforward home game against Wigan. Just a few hours later I was dancing around my living room in amazement that ten man Leeds had lost at home to them!
Good Friday doesn't do it just. Bloody Amazing Friday more like!!!

I got home and watched their match. I couldn't quite believe what I saw.

L**ds 1-0 up, Wigan down to ten men. It seemed like a straight forward result but Gavin Massey had other ideas.

And Dirty Weeds suffered the kind of nightmare that only the Blades can have , in any normal season.

Then to round the weekend off, they were beaten by Brentford after we smashed Hull (a match I was offered a ticket to, but had to decline!)

I'd forgotten that. Ball hit his chest so no pen and no sending off. I think this match was the turning point for Leeds. I'm not sure how many points they got from this moment on, but it was certainly nowhere near promotion form.

Yes. Just looked it up. Four points out of the last five, which was relegation form in itself, but one point out of the last four was disastrous. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

I flew into Liverpool that morning and drove up to Sheffield for the game. All the way my young lad kept talking about how Wigan would beat Leeds and how Leon would make it happen for us. I was so concerned about our own game that I didn't want to think about the later kick off. In the end we had a row in the car about his insistence that this would be the day it turns because Wigan would win. He was adamant and wouldn't listen to reason that everything pointed to a comfortable Leeds win.
You can imagine how smug he was on the drive back listening to Leeds unravel on the radio at the hands of Leon

To some of us we quite simply grew into the season and it was a near replica of what we did in L1, albeit against much better opposition.

It has to be stated that Leeds helped enormously by being totally inept in the 2nd half of the season but we applied constant pressure on the top two after Xmas. Norwich and Farke should take great credit for not wilting like Leeds did.

Some of you need to change from a glass half empty - especially while we have CW as manager.

After a nervy 50 minutes the moment when a huge wave of relief swept over the Lane after the Millwall result. Duffys goal got us believing again probably one of the most important of the season. The result that day put the pressure on Weeds and Leon stepped up. Even then no-one could anticipate how badly Weeds would crumble under pressure in the remaining games.

The performance against Forest was superb,the goal from Duffy was just sublime,I like the majority thought that any swing in our favour would occur on the Monday,we would beat Hull and pray Brentford could do something against Leeds,we didn’t have to wait that long happily.The greatest Easter ever

Yeah, the glass isn't half empty, but while ever we have jokers in the boardroom it will always be a quarter empty, or an eighth empty, or a sixteenth even.

It won't be complete until the boardroom is sorted out

We've had good teams before, we've had good managers before, but the one constant is shit boardrooms.

And the next constant is good manager eventually runs out of ideas and enthusiasm because of shit boardroom.

So hopefully the boardroom can get a few quid back, sell up and somebody with some ambition beyond merely keeping us in existence will take over.
Then it'll be perfect

Good Friday was significant because of the events of the previous Saturday when it appeared we had blown our chance of automatic promotion,this was when Wilder showed what a leader of men he is,Leeds with 4 games to go,had all the cards stacked in their favour,they were even winning 1-0 at home against a side down to ten men,and then they happily for us,just imploded.

You are of course correct,we did dominate the 2nd half of the season,however that Easter weekend saw a miracle occur,on a par with the one a couple of thousand years ago.

Just looked up Gavin Massey and apparently he only scored 5 goals last season. The lad's nonetheless a legend, we should sign him for next season just so he gets Premier League on his CV.

Don't get me wrong, the Wigan Meltdown and the Brentford F*ckup were phenomenal, but wasn't there just the slightest slightest tiny disappointment that it felt like it was those two results (which no Blades were involved in, apart from Leon of course) that got us up rather than say the KCOM Massacre. A consequence of shitty TV scheduling.
