5 subs

I'm not sure about it, obvious downside is opportunities to time waste.
What I don't understand is the jump from 3 to 5, I'd have just in increased it to 4 and monitor for a season.
Because there is no common sense

I'd like to see what the stats nerds have found out about this.

My guess is that making one or two substitutions in a game is optimal.

When you start making three substitutions in a 90 minute league game, aren't the pros often outweighed by the cons.

The sub is fitter, fresher, but they're also not up to speed with the game.

The whole structure of the team has changed. You've moved from Plan A, often on to Plan B, C, or beyond. That's not worked. Now you're on to Plan D which is chuck on your third choice left wingback because he scored a screamer in training a couple of week ago. And Plan A was Plan A for a reason.

It'd be like a friendly International or a testimonial game.

(It might help teams who are down to 10 men. They can pick a Designated Nutter or two to run around like mad bastards for 30 minutes and then get subbed off.)

Though all of this is speculation; as Lys Mousset once said: The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

True about subs not being around forever. But what happens in a another 30yrs? Rolling subs? 30 minute matches? I'm not necessarily being really dramatic.

Matches aren't played, they're just sim'd on football manager/ FIFA

So in theory we might see someone subbed, then his sub subbed and the sub who subbed the sub subbed?

Mind blown...🤪

Looking forward to 5 subs being made after 90 mins and 15 mins added time every game.

Madness. Football was a far more physical game before the mid-90s. Crunching tackles were second only to goals for getting the crowd excited.
Also there was none of the sports science stuff & top level physio they have now. And a large chunk of the season was played on pitches resembling farmers fields so I would imagine this would make injury more likely. Having said that, I wonder if todays players’ bodies are actually over-tuned (if that’s possible).

They don't add on nearly enough time as it is right now, but next season it wouldn't be for this reason, do you see why?

We can make 5 subs over 4 different times of the game. I'm shocked after the injuries we've had that Hecky doesn't use all 5 for a good part of the matches. Players like Bogle and Lowe need game time and with their pace and energy you sometimes need.
My assumption is that they’re close to being 100% but still need to do work to get that final few percent.

Filling the bench and only to be used if the likes of Stevens and Baldock pick up a knock

How many fucking threads on the same subject?

Who were you taking off at halftime?

You can make 5 over 3 plus halftime.

He's very reluctant to use the last substitution. I suspect given our injury record he's overly cautious.

I also suspect if he'd brought on players who made mistakes and we'd not won, Hecky would be slaughtered on here.

He knew he had to take McAtee off, and only had one recognised midfielder on the bench (Doyle)

Who is coming on for Berge? Basham I presume. The man I'm pretty sure failed to track a runner when he's come on previously this season in midfield.

And are we taking Sharp off on 60 and bringing an unfit McBurnie on for 35 minutes? Sure it will be fine if he gets injured.

There's a lot of certainty about what he should or shouldn't do, which isn't as open and shut as some seem to think.

I do get frustrated about the lack of positive substitutions but I still think he's playing without a full hand. If Osborn is on the bench, I think he comes on for Berge. If we had another fit striker, I think they come on earlier.

The conclusion here is ............HECKY OUT!!!!!!!!

I'd have been happy with Lowe coming on at HT after Stevens's performance.

We were screaming out for changes before he made the first one.
Needed freshening up good 10 mins before hand.

I would have taken Berge off though, I thought he was treading through treacle that last 10 mins (inc. injury time)
Basham or even Bogle could have worked for me.

Still though we won, that's the main thing and although we made hard work of it, we go in at HT 2-0 or even 3-0 up it wouldn't have been unjust with chances we had.

your last sentence says it all we havent enough fit strikers thats why we have to add one in january even if its only a loan

Well I wouldn't usually but seeing as how injuries have gone this season then player management is key. Plus Lowe and Bogle for example need match fitness.
We were 1:0 up with 45 minutes left and you wanted to rest players? I can imagine that would have gone down well had we lost.

Stevens was having a poor game as per. Would you have really been disappointed if Lowe came on for him HT? A positive change IMO

This is the same Lowe who has been poor for us about 50% of games he's played and doesn't seem to be defensively very secure?

Maybe not putting Lowe and Bogle on unnecessarily is part of the player management that you mention.
