Interesting - the goals conceded by the bottom 3 teams over the last 5 matches (all comps):

Luton - 19
Burnley - 16
Blades - 15

All horrible records, but it is interesting that the media ridicule still seems aimed at us, Luton are still plucky and Burnley just seem to be under the radar. Nothing sinister, that narrative was set very early on and they are sticking with it.

It shows of course that this group of promoted sides have all made a proper mess of promotion!

It would be in blades fashion to get a lucky 1-0 win Vs Arsenal when we are all expecting a heavy loss.

Then get thrashed by Bournemouth away.

But the blades fashion this season has not really thrown up that many positive shocks has it? So I'm reckoning a 3 or 4 0 nil for Arsenal. We will try but Arse look like they might well push Liverpool and City for the distance.

I remember watching us lose v Arsenal, Bolton, Sunderland, in 1978, shipped 15 goals in and scored 2 in consecutive games, remember it like yesterday 😲

Arse in cup 0-5
Notlob & Sun’lun in 2nd division both 1-5

Begat a ‘joke’ that we had a new phone number - zero- five- one - five - one - five

If I recall correctly (unlikely) that sequence ended Ces Coldwell’s period as ‘caretaker’gaffer which up until then had been relatively ‘successful’ (including winning 6-1 @ Cardiff - terrifying day out) - replaced by ‘appy’arry Haslam

Ours over the season looks by far the worst due mainly to Newcastle in a game which the club should have postponed given the circumstances.

All three of the first half goals should have been disallowed for handball, a nothing foul, handball and the game would have panned out differently.

Can’t just say it still would have been 5-0. The whole game would have taken a different course had it rightfully been 0-0 ant half time and heads would not have dropped. We’d actually had some decent efforts before they dubiously opened the scoring too.

Obviously all that narrative got lost in time.

Yep, we'd been next to bottom was Sirrel was sacked in Sept 77. Coldwells record as caretaker in the rest of 77 was then
P16 W9 D4 L3 pts 22. That took us to 6th and we were thinking there was an outside chance of promotion and Coldwell seemed to be in the running for a permanent appointment.

Those 5 goal defeats put paid to that and, as you say, HH was appointed. His record was then
P18 W6 D2 L8 pts 14 . Which left us in 12th, though strangely only 2 points away from relegation (the bottom half of the table was very tight that year). Of course, Happy Harry completed that particular job the following season....
