What the fuck is the obsession with this outdated, ineffective formation seriously?

We do not have the players to fit this formation effectively.

In every single game so far this season, we have been out-thought, out-worked, out-played.
We deserved to have lost most games this season.
Lucky to get a point in the games we've drawn.
Extremely lucky to get a win against fucking Bolton at home.

But yet we still carry on with this outdated tactic from a neanderthal manager, getting overrun in the middle of the park every game.
There's a reason why nobody else plays 442 these days Wilder you weapon. Wake up

He said he was changing it after Cardiff but here we are.

4-3-2-1 / 4-3-3 / 4-1-2-2-1

Anything but whatever the fuck this is.
It just doesn't work.

Leave BBD and Rom on the wings, play 3 centre mids and have Bamford up top, drop diabetes Campbell to the bench.
Then we might have a chance of building up play through midfield, using triangles with the full backs instead of just fucking hoofing it as soon as we come under any sort of pressure.

This 'football' is horrible to watch.

1st half today we actually played alright after they scored, got an equaliser and looked like scoring again…. Defensively we’re abysmal

Have to agree to disagree there pal. Every stat shows they were by far the better team.
We might have had a decent 'spell' but they looked a league above us in actual footballing ability.

You can play whatever formation you want, but when you have a one dimensional/slow midfield group like we have then it's going to crap. The engine room needs to be flexible with pace, ballers and 8's that can run in behind. Wilder has somehow managed to sign 5 mids that are pretty much identical, slow and laborious.

He got this correct in what seems a long time ago now - Norwood, Fleck and Duffy. These 3 all different but very effective in creating a cohesive, functional midfield.

You’re absolutely right mate. Been banging this drum for a few matches and after the window.

As soon as Cal went it wasn’t the support to the attack we just lost it was the help into midfield.

Adding strikers who contribute very little to open play - what menace do Cannon and Campbell provide if they aren't scoring? - does little to the team, but leaving the midfield short handed does.

It should be Donovan-Bamford-BBD up top as you say then a midfield 3 of whoever is appropriate for the opposition.

Is it an "obsession"? We started 3-5-2 two weeks ago and have switched to that formation in other games too.

New found obsession yes.
We've played 3 league games since the 3-5-2.

Funnily enough, the only game we started 3-5-2 is the only game we've arguably deserved a result (Swansea away).
Since then it's been 4-4-2 every game and piss poor performances.
Maybe there's a coincidence somewhere there.

Im not one of those who study tactics and formations but it does appear we are getting overrun ( out run) in midfield and we need more bodies in there .
The coaching staff must be trying different formations and personell in different positions but not quite found it ready for matchday.

As the CW interview after Bolton suggested we may have to try different formations , I dont suppose its quite as easy as one of those squad selector tools , just placing a formation on a board.

agree with all your posts vas.and posted similar on another thread we have to have 3 in midfield were just getting overun in midfield with this stupid outdated 442 system and if we want to go with 2 strikers it has to be 352 if we want to play with 2 wide men has to be 433 with 1 striker which at present looks the better option seing as both cannon and campbell are useless think the 352 could work once seriki and one are fit think bamford and one could be an interesting front 2
