30 years ago today I (and most of you) saw the first ever Premier League goal. I hadnt realised the significance at the time. I was just happy that Brian Deane had just scored to put the Blades ahead against Manchester United. I am at the top right of the photo jumping up from my seat

I was only 7 at the time, and though it is 30 years ago (how???) that is how a game of football should look if I imagine it.
A load of blokes called Brian, Peter, Gary etc who looked a bit like your dad, Mitre footballs, black boots, players numbered 1-11 in proper positions, long sleeve goalie tops, keepers wearing the same shorts and socks as outfield players, proper nets on the goals, jumpers for goalposts, hmmmm wasn't it

The thing I remember most about that day was the new backpass rule. Probably the biggest change in terms of actual gameplay* in my lifetime.

*VAR is the biggest change in terms of ruining the experience.

I used to love it when Dave Bassett was manager the players were just mad the football either awful or brilliant
