For all the slagging that people like snooty are giving the fans, the restrictions placed on our fans in particular for home games is having a detrimental affect on attendances.
We'll get our 25,000 ish regardless, but to bring that up to 30,000 it has to be made easier for the 5,000 floating fans

They are floating fans for a reason, they are not as keen as the die hards. It doesn't take too much to put them off

I'll be surprised if it's much over 30,000. We only just scraped that for the Sheffield derby at Bramall lane this season.

The problem is that it's just too easy to get live football piped into your living room or even into the palm of your hand. For some folks, the prospect of shelling out serious money (especially if they have dependants to take to the game), in awful weather, versus staying home, or in the pub, where it's nice and warm and you can watch football for free, is just not attractive.

The more easy the TV companies make it to watch football, the less folks will actually bother going to watch it in person. And, as you know, the TV companies are not just content to put big money behind it and televise one or two games. They have seen the commercial opportunity in making just about all games available and so even more fans have less incentive to go to the game in person. And even worse, they want their "technology" to take out the human elements of applying the rules.

In years to come my friend, you and I, and others like us, won't even be welcome to go and watch our teams play football. Fans will be considered an unnecessary expense, because of all the policing charges and the traffic congestion they cause. What's more important, is that the clubs won't need the fans there in person, because they can make all the money they need to make through the TV companies and merchandising. Even now, half the teams in the Premiership don't need fans to attend games - they make their money elsewhere. This is how it is going to be for most clubs in the top 2 divisions in a few years.

The plan is for all football to be televised so they can charge us to watch it at home. And for those that can't afford to pay to watch it live on TV, there'll be pre-recorded and edited highlights to watch on box sets on Christmas Day.

We will be able to sit back in our armchairs, by the fire, with a few tins and play back the games from a whole season. And as we do that, we can stare at the completely empty terraces and tell our grandchildren that when we were young, people actually used to go and watch the game live. And they'll laugh at us and go..."oh Grandad! Don't be silly!".

Nice theory, just one fact you missed. The crowd at a match it what makes the atmosphere.
Have you ever seen a televised game with no crowd? it's like watching paint dry.
The simple answer is to stop charging stupid money to go to the game, like you say, they don't need the money.
But they do need the crowd.

Reasons why football in the flesh is incomparable to football on TV.

The time-honoured rituals of preparing for the match and getting to the ground, with the same friends or family, buying your programme from the same seller on the same corner, clacking thro the turnstiles (the rich and evocative sound of THAT), all the unique sensory stuff of a football ground on match day (heightened colours of wet grass and football shirts under lights, “programme 3 quid”, the rattle and roar and groan of the crowd, the smell of pies/werther’s/Mr Smelly, the visceral sense of how fast and hard and technical the game actually is—so hard to actually feel any of that on the box).

The ability to see the game with your own eyes, so you can track the run of the deep-lying, overlapping centre half from 50 yards out, rather than passively waiting for him to appear in the corner of the frame that the TV camera allows you. The ability to look at whatever you want to look at (the subs warming up, the posturing twat on the front row in the away end, the flags blowing in a gale on the roof of the stand, the old clock from the cricket pavilion, the ballboy comically picking his nose, the patterned line made in the opposite stand by 15 people wearing the same colour coat, the rain falling in one box but not the other like a curtain drawn across the ground). All seen in 180 degree, focused and peripheral vision, without a commentator steering your responses to any of it at all.

The incredible power, the release of adrenaline, the moments of sheer fucking bedlam you get ... from sharing a goal, a miss, a penalty appeal, with tens of thousands of people all around you.

As long as it is affordable, this is why crowds will always turn up at football matches, no matter how convenient and easy TV companies make it to sit on your arse and consume the game at home, rather than physically living it right in front of you, in the flesh.

Leeds game a real watershed. Belief has grown substantially and every goal brings a fantastic dream closer. Will be very surprised if the Lane doesn't get back to its old wonderfully noisy self in these last few games and I will be cheering myself hoarse. 24k or 29k makes no difference its how we get behind the team.

The Steel City Derby was, apart from a handful of severely restricted view tickets, a total sell out.
The official attendance that night was 30,261 with Wednesday officially allocated 2,192 tickets.
By my calculation the most tickets home fans can have this season is 28,069.

However for games that are considered low risk then maybe the Safety Committee will agree to a slight increase of our tickets.
So probably 28,500 home tickets is about right.
