To allow Cooper to recover properly if needed.

Start with the obvious one;

Sam Tickle - Wigan

Arguably the best shot stopper in League One currently with a save percentage of over 75%. However Wigan are aware of his value and contracted till 2028. Probably wouldn't be able to get him for under 5 mill.

Viljami Sinisalo - Celtic

When at Exeter was in top 90th percentile in EFL for goals prevented, and was voted Exeter player of the year. However since moving to Celtic has not been given the game time he was hoping for.

Killian Cahill - Leyton Orient

Having a breakout season similar to when Trafford was at Bolton. High volume of clean sheets and cleansheet streaks, regularly winning man of the match. At just 22 looks like going to have a big future in front of him.

Suspect loans most likely so reset expectations
Served us well in the past. Having someone as good as we know Cooper is, is a fantastic position for the club to be in, but a PL Loan Keeper can be a fantastic option. Blackman and Henderson did well for us. Actually, it's when we try to sign a permanent keeper that things have fallen apart 😂

It's January so it's completely different and it would be a loan to cover a player people have come up with a theory is injured and just not out of form. We have no idea if he's injured either!

I think he is quite clearly suffering with a problem. He had to go off at Coventry and also has gone down a couple of times (the latest at Leicester) with some sort of injury. The club are not going to come out and confirm its an injury as it would alert the opposition to a weakness which they would likely try and exploit

Think Saturdays injury was more a tactical one...

Hopefully the coaching staff can see a new devent backup is a must! if cooper gets injured for more than a few weeks then we can kiss promotion via play offs good by.

Alan Nixon reckons we're after the Wigan lad

Go and get the lad in January. His stock is only going to go one way, and ive been impressed each time (admittedly limited) that ive seen Wigan and ST play. Looks a very promising keeper. We need much better than Davies as a back up (surely hes gone in the summer?) and if we can get this lad in then we have two quality keepers who are both young and can push each other with healthy competition. We can play great attacking football but if your keeper is dodgy it affects the team and results. So important that we have two decent keepers at least.

A Wigan fan on X reckons he turned down Arsenal as he wants the be first choice. Exactly the type of character we should be looking for

Tickle is different gravy. If Cooper went, you’d buy him in a blink of an eye.

His sister is a highly thought of keeper in the women's game, Tess. She's the bollocks.

Why on earth would he join to mainly sit on the bench? It would be a very odd and career damaging move for him to come to us.

just the type of keeper we need to bring in one thats not happy being 2nd choice and would challenge cooper for the jersey

But from his perspective why would you join us now when there is a significant blocker in your way to first team experience and improvement? It’s not like he’s 30, there’s only a couple of years between them and he’s playing regularly now.

He would only join us, if a deal is lined up for Cooper and at the moment that is unlikely due to his apparent injury

Beacuse if theres any truth to the rumours regarding Coopers fitness or alleged injuries hes carrying. Then he would come in as no1. That way we can send cooper off for treatment and make sure hes recovered properly & if Tickle is playing well, it would be his shirt to lose.

I cant see this happening personally having both of them on our books. Only way we get this over line is if we sell cooper.

- would love to have both, be like few year back when we had headache of Kelly or Tracey.

The trick is to find a player like Tracey who’s excellent but generally happy to largely play 2nd fiddle for most of his career.

Not sure if he is wanting a contract, is fit enough or whatever, one potential on the freebie list as in without a club is former ‘boro amongst others, Tom Glover, he is still on 27, 6ft 5 so a decent height and can pull off some routine saves, this was the “welcome to Boro highlight reel” below. He was a 2nd keeper at Boro only playing 19 times over 2 seasons but could be a stop gap whilst we are looking at our options. End of season Grbic and Davies hopefully are gone as both of their contracts are up, Faxton hasn’t had enough men’s football minutes and in the U21s and U18s games he has made errors that would be punished in the Championship.

Ideally what we need is a solid backup keeper, sending Faxton out on loan and one that can challenge Coopers spot, if we had that luxury. Either way Glover could do a job if needed.
