Is there anywhere which lists average attendance if you just count home fans?

Is there one that takes off season ticket holders that aren't there?

Doubt it, it’s not usually common knowledge about the number that actually attend stadiums.
Suspect some official at the club would know but usually it’s just estimates given on forums by fans.
Also you can see on tv that Sunderland’s ground is no where hear half full.

Even on the Sunderland main forum it’s really common where their fans admit the ground is no where near half full and more like 33% full, so would.be more like 18K at the game than the often quoted 27K. Also loads of posters say they are current season tickets holders but have stopped going this season.

Free tickets for school children too I read, a good idea I think. It'd be good if we could do something like that, turn up on matchday at 2:00 with your mega travel pass and you can have a ticket if we have some. Since we're in the centre of town too, wouldn't be a wasted day if they can't get in, they can just go to the pictures or something instead.

Don't think people would begrudge a school kid getting a seat, and a free ticket for a few games now might turn into a lifelong season ticket holder.

And a full ground is always nice.
Unlike a full squeaky ground :(

Hats off to Sunderland, considering how shit they are.
Sorry but I disagree. They'll have loads of hangover season ticket holders who thought they might go straight back up.

Compare their 27k with our average attendance for six years in the third tier and then we can decide who deserves the honourable 'cap doffing'.

Fuck Sunderland.

A lower crowd than Coventry City who got over 28,000 for the game against Accrington Stanley.

It’s already been mentioned it was £5 for adults and free for kids.
CCFC went to the local schools and managed to shift 10 to 15,000 kids tickets.

Notts County also did a Community Day match last week and charged adults £3
They got over 17,000, their biggest gate for years.

MK Dons had a Community day last season when they played Bolton, it was £5 for adults and free for kids and they got 23,000

keeps our average up there , do well in last 15 be a 28 k average first season back
surprisingly climbed above Derby

# Team sum Matches average
1 Leeds United 484.178 15 32.279
2 Aston Villa 461.133 15 30.742
3 Wolverhampton Wanderers 446.882 16 27.930
4 Sunderland AFC 415.624 15 27.708
5 Sheffield United 431.557 16 26.972

7 Sheffield Wednesday 390.764 15 26.051
8 Norwich City 384.802 15 25.653
9 Middlesbrough FC 404.965 16 25.310
10 Nottingham Forest 399.346 16 24.959
11 Birmingham City 309.703 15 20.647
What that shows is that there are a lot of decently supported teams in the Championship....and Birmingham. :)

The level in support in Sheffield for football is totally underestimated outside of our city.

Aston Villa and Birmingham are from a two club city with a population of 1 million and they can just manage 50,000 supporters. Leeds have had a huge amount of success in my 'following football life time' a huge city with only one club and yet they can only pull in 32,000.

If both Sheffield clubs were in the Premier league for some considerable time then the aggregate support could be somewhere close to 70,000.

Apparently 14K free tickets were given to kids for the Cov match. Half failed to turn up.

28,000 tickets were allocated but only 21,000 turned up to watch the match.
Even with free tickets over 7,000 couldn’t be bothered.

Also apparently there was a fan zone set up to entertain the kids.
There was 2 massive screens to help keep the kids entertained and guess what?
They were showing the Spurs- Arsenal game instead of showing anything Coventry related,

Going to say that. Considering the crap theyve been through last 5 yrs in prem & now championship thats impressive

Sunderland are currently averaging just under 20,000 that turn up to matches.
I don’t think that’s anything particularly special to be honest.

Just been reading about that. Incredible really. There were huge blocks of empty seats throughout the ground because so may people had ordered 6 tickets but not turned up.

The Coventry fans are embarrassed by how it all turned out.

If you consider the demographics of Leeds (population nearly 800k), West Yorkshire (1.8m and only smaller sized clubs at Bradford and Huddersfield as league rivals), and North Yorks (600k and currently no league teams), throw in they pull from Barnsley and Donny too then 32k is poor. Compare it to Sheffield, where both clubs have had very little proper success since the end of WWII and are pulling from a much smaller demographics pool (s yorks population 1.3m), then over 50k average between them is excellent.

Just goes to prove Sheffield = football city (and I'd argue proper cricket city too)
Leeds = rugby city

btw great goal billy....

But if Wednesday were challenging for the play-offs like we are, they'd be getting around 60,000. Oh, and we practically give tickets away (I looked at our OS last week, and it quoted tickets for the Leeds game 'from £30' - hardly cheap.)

All this talk of letting thousands of kids in cheap/free is damaging the brand. If I was, for example, a Cov. fan who'd shelled out for season tickets for me and my son, and saw thousands of the screaming brats, looking at their phones instead of the game and who'd got in for free, I'd be less than impressed.

Teams who need to resort to giving cheapies/freebies away are kidding themselves that these people will return. Not if the product is shite. Talking of which, the pigs are charging £20 for their Cup game v Swansea. But don't expect the endless procession of Micks and Marks on RS to mention that little fact.

Love to know how many Sunderland left at 3-0 ,considering the Cricketers was full of them when we got our 3rd at the Lane.
Good question, as it's been something of a tradition at the SoL for the crowd to disperse as soon as they start to lose a game e.g. when our 2nd (Donaldson) went in we suddenly felt very lonely as the Mackems around us quickly disappeared!
I reckon ~80% of the crowd yesterday would have missed and their 'comeback' to make it 3-3! :D
