Anybody with functioning eyes could see that there wasn’t 24k in the stadium on Friday night. There were empty areas all over the place including a bunch of ST holders that didn’t turn up who normally sit around me.

Announcing attendances that contain ST holders that haven’t turned up is frankly cringeworthy regardless of who else does the same.

The club knows exactly how many people have entered the turnstiles and it is this number that would obviously be passed to the emergency services if required and it is this number that should be announced and released to the press. It just sounds so fucking desperate to massage the figures like we do.

Desperate for what?

The crowd figure was as correct as any other this season. How many of 24,500 who buy tickets do you think give it a miss?

There were around 24,000 in the stadium. There is no point or purpose in ‘massaging’ crowd figures.

The irony is the myth used to be of understating attendances.. Therweralotmooerthanthattheer...

You'd think after calling for Foxy and being proved wrong you'd have some shame and shutup...

Not in the least. The overwhelming majority of those who bought tickets were in attendance. That’s why they buy them. Nobody claimed the crowd figures for Hull, Birmingham, Brentford etc were thousands too high, yet they were calculated in exactly the same way?

Surely tickets sold is a pretty good way of measuring the level of support, anyway?

Bladey Inferiority Complex now seeks to diminish our attendance figures. The crowd figure was about right. I was there and called it. Talk of 20,000 is absolute drivel. I’ve seen 20,000 crowds at The Lane and that was not one of them.
Thankfully, the turnstile computer agrees with me.

May I take a slightly different tack on this matter. Maybe we have become acclimatised to attendances of 26 and 27k plus and when we then look around the ground and see empty spaces, and the people around you who are usually there are missing, then maybe it's just illusory. You make think the attendance is lower than it is but the announced figure may well be right.

The attendance last Friday was over 3k less than the last home match. That's an amount equivalent to the BLUT missing. If the ground holds about 30k then that is an awful lot of empty spaces in ones and twos around the ground.

Most clubs - including Wednesday - are at it. Why? I dunno but it's a fact of life. I watched Southampton v Leicester on MoTD last night. St. Mary's official attendance is 32,505 and they claimed the crowd was 27,734. Utter bollocks. Arsenal always claim around 60k when huge spaces of empty seats can be seen.

Whatever the published crowds, the fans who do turn up are to be applauded for putting up with Sky fucking around with fixtures and the ludicrous 'international breaks' meaning that games that could be played in decent weather end up on a freezing February night.

So in theory if I snuffed it now I’d be counted in the attendances for remaining games this season?

Your corpse would be tastefully placed in your seat. Shame Adkins isn't still here, you'd have also got a game and still been more use than Hammond.
