DETAILS OF REARRANGED FIXTURE FROM POST #11 ONWARDS

As you'll have hopefully already have heard, this Sunday (20th February 2011) a Blades Legends team will be taking on a Radio Sheffield All Star XI in aid of blades supporter Karl Darby. We'll be going up ourselves after forum football.

Held at Sheffield FC's Coach & Horses ground (BT Local Stadium), kick off will be at 2pm and tickets can be purchased on the turnstiles.

Entry will be £2 Adults and £1 Concessions.

Karl Darby 44, is a life long supporter home and away and is in need of help from fellow Blades.

He suffers from Myoclonic Epilepsy and is confined to a wheelchair. For the past decade he has lived in the Leonard Cheshire home on Mickley Lane, Totley, as he cannot stay with his parents because of steep stairs on the approach to their house.

Radio Sheffield XI will include former Owls defender Mark Smith, Doncaster Rovers goalkeeping coach LeeButler and Blades legend Keith Edwards. Also in the team will be actors Junade Khan (Ash Roy from Hollyoaks) William Snape (Nathan in Full Monty), Lee Otway (Bombhead from Hollyoaks) and local Boxer Johnny Nelson.

On the opposing team playing for the Legends confirmed are: Bob Booker, Craig Short, Georges Santos, Paul Beesley, Carl Bradshaw, Paul Shaw, Peter Duffield, Jeff Eckhardt, Tony Agana, Chris Short, Adrian Littlejohn, Mark Todd and Tony Philliskirk.

Classic Lifts, Sheffield United lifts supplier, have kindly offered to provide a stair lift to Karl to enable him to move back home with his parents. However funds are needed to complete the required building work around the property before a lift can be fitted. Sheffield United would like to be able to raise enough money to assist with the building part of the project and help Karl reach his ambition to move back home.

Andrew Emsley of Classic Lifts has a number of business contacts locally and in particular within the construction industry, but we hope more companies will get in touch to offer their assistance. We hope to achieve a Challenge Aneka type event where local suppliers contribute to the development and coupled with the funds raised from the legends game, hopefully we can have Karl back home in no time.

So, if you, your friends or family have businesses that could help in anyway please get in touch on 0871 663 2462 or email: [email protected].

Perhaps if people can't make it they could donate a couple of quid!

Just a thought.

:)

I tell you what, i fancy the radio sheffield team would be in with a shout against that lot!

Have they got a justgiving page?

I'll find out for you, if not, I'm more than happy to act as a buffer and pass any donations to the relevant people.

I`ll be there,i know karl and his dad roy from the old woodseats supporters branch.

Unfortunately this has had to be called off.
More details on the rearranged date as soon as I get them.

Seems United are sorting out the building work ahead of the match and fundraising. Good for them.

Don't think I've ever seen someone look quite so made up! :D

Now at the Lane on the day of the Sharrow community day: http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/PastPlayers/0,,10418~2288773,00.html

Play on Lane pitch against the Lane legends.

This is a strictly firstly come first served one off offer to all Blades supporters! The opportunity to play in this worthy charity game on the hallowed turf at Bramall Lane on Sunday 22nd May.

14 Blades supporters aged 16 or over, are invited to donate a minimum of £99 each to play an all star Blades Legends team on the morning of Sunday 22nd May with a 10.30am kick off at Bramall Lane. The game will be curtain raiser to the ever popular community day, which takes place at the ground every year.

For the minimum £99 donation the supporter will play in the game in a full United strip and also keep the numbered AND named United shirt they play in and can have it signed by all the Legends on the opposing team.

Dave McCarthy the Head of operations at Sheffield United explained: "We had to postpone the original game planned a few months ago due to inclement weather conditions, so this opportunity to play the game this way was too good a chance to miss. I believe our supporters will jump at the chance to play against the legends on the hallowed turf itself and will be very pleased that they helping raise money for such a good cause through the process".

We aim to raise as much as money as we can to try and get Blades fan Karl the external stair lift he needs to be able to move back home with his parents.

A host of former Blades stars will be on show for this prestigious inaugural legends event including the likes of Bob Booker, Carl Bradshaw , Georges Santos, Tony Agana , Rob Page and David Holdsworth.

Supporters are invited to come along watch the game and see some of their heroes of yesteryear roll back the years and perform again at Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane. Admission is just £3 adults and £1 concessions.

Any players who wish to play in the game should email Dave on [email protected] stating full name, age and position.

A team of United's legendary players will compete against generous fans to raise money for one of the club's biggest supporters.

Lucky Blades fans will have the opportunity of a lifetime on Sunday (22nd May) when they challenge the United All Stars team. The match will kick-off the Blades' Community Day at Bramall Lane.

Supporters have donated a minimum of £99 each to take part in the match against heroes such as Bob Booker, Tony Agana, Carl Bradshaw, David Holdsworth, Peter Duffield, Tony Philliskirk, Georges Santos and Alan Wright.

The match will raise cash for Blades fan Karl Darby, 44, who suffers from Myoclonic Epilepsy and is confined to a wheelchair. For the past decade he has lived in supported accommodation but hopes to return to live with his parents once a stair lift is installed in his parents' home. The necessary equipment has been donated by fan Andy Emsley and his company Classic Lifts, but funds are still needed to adapt his family home and ensure it is suitable for independent living, whilst additional support has been offered by CODA Studios.

Dave McCarthy, head of operations at United, said: "Our supporters have jumped at the opportunity to play against the legends on the hallowed turf.

"For any dedicated Blades fan, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and something that I'm sure they will always remember. But they will have to put all their football skills to the test to score a victory over the talented legends team."

Mark Davies, managing director of ABC Insolvency Services, Sheffield, has been a Blades season ticket holder for 24 years and will be playing in goal.

He said: "For Karl to move back home, providing we can raise enough money, I'm sure will bring a smile to him and his family. Because of circumstance he cannot live with his family and if we can help change that then it will be worth every mistake I make on Sunday.

"I am taking the game very seriously, and as I understand there will be scouts in the crowd I have therefore stepped up my fitness regime with five additional sit-ups a week!"

Jamie Hillier, of St Ledger Homes of Doncaster, will also be playing centre back for the fans team.

He said: "To be playing against some of the players I used to watch growing up as a youngster is a dream come true. I love playing football as well as watching it, so I couldn't turn down the chance to be involved in such a big event. I'm looking forward to meeting Robert Page, George Santos and Tony Agana the most."

Former Blades hero Carl Bradshaw will be competing against the fans. He said: "I have lots of good memories of playing at Bramall Lane and we had three seasons in the Premier League while I was there. I'm a Sheffield lad and still like to be involved in club events like this. I think it will be a great day and I hope Karl and his family enjoy it. It would be fantastic to raise enough to bring him home."

Supporters are invited to come along and watch the game, which kicks off at 10.30am. Admission costs £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
