Was that our midfield in 02/03? I remember it wherever possible as Nuddy Macca Browny Tongey. Jagielka's breakout season as a defender.

Correct, our midfield that season was predominantly:

Tonge - LM
McCall - CM
Brown - CM
Ndlouvu - RM

We then had Monty in CM when McCall needed a rest or was injured and then Ricketts came in towards the end of the season in center mid and he ended up playing in the play off final. Also had Owen Morrison towards the end.

Jagielka played Right Back from about October on wards, and then moved into central half where he was class. Shame Warnock didn't play him there much in the premier league season, if he had we probably wouldn't have gone down.

Owen Morrison was a funny one. His signing was obviously prior to the Quinn, Bromby, Geary era, and I can remember a lot of negative reaction to his signing. Can't remember the game, but shortly after he arrived he had a game at home on the left wing and I thought he looked excellent. I remember thinking we'd added a really useful player into the mix. He barely featured and was promptly released in the summer.

Morrison looked a cracking player, shame he was a total fruit loop and potentially a lover of the Jose Baxter headache tablets.

We sometimes added Monty to that midfield at the expense of a striker.

Ultimately ended in failure though if we are adding balance.

Talking of the 02-03 season, it's now 13 years to the day since this happened:

How time flies eh?

Great night. The lass I was with at the time lived in Leeds so I took her to see it. Was going to leave early to beat the rush but she said we should stick around. Journey back to Leeds was...fun.

Sad watching that now. It's so, so long since watching this club was that much fuckin' fun. That's all I really want.

For supporters of any football team, it always ends in failure. Players are sold, managers leave, expectations are crushed and the 'prawn sandwich brigade' fuck off to be tedious about summat else. You can't take away the memories though, and the 'Triple Assault' season just built and built. Bristol Blade's post re. the Leeds game was where it began. 1-0 down, the board went up with 4 extra minutes left...

Who would have known then that, a few months later, we'd have taken part in the finest game I've ever seen (Forest PO 2nd leg), been robbed at Liverpool and cheated at Old Trafford? A cracking team that and described by piggie manager Chris Turner after we'd beaten them 3-1 (and that Brownie goal) as having 'quality all over the pitch'.

I actually thought the team that lost to Burnley in the 2009 POF was possibly better: - Kenny, Walker, Morgan, Kilgallon, Naughton, Montgomery, Cotterill, Howard, Quinn, Halford, Craig Beattie and the bench included Bromby and Jamie Ward. Fuck, I could cry...

Pity that McCabe broke it up.

Oh trust me I remember, I was there for the majority of it. Wonderful times and the ride was well worth it.

Brombyey and Gearyey were still playing for Wendyay in 2002-03.

As was Alan Quinn - he scored Wendy's goal in the Blades' 3-1 win in January 2003. This vid. shows a bit of his 'celebration' at the kop end and I remember thinking 'You cocky little fucker...'

Anyway, you younger fans. This is what the Blades used to be like...

That goal by Brown gets better every time. All time favourite goal followed Jagielka's against Leeds & M'boro.

The determination by McCall to win the ball for Kabba's goal is fantastic. Our current lot could do with watching that.

T'was the season that made me fall in love with the Blades.

It was against Brighton. I remember he went on a mad run towards the end from the halfway line, took on the entire team and Beasant pulled off a cracking save to prevent what would have been one of the goals of the season.

Brighton keepers are a bloody miserable/talented bunch. It was Michel Kuipers (of the famous "Michel Kuipers is a Former Dutch Marine" chant) that pulled off a fine save to deny what would have been one of the great team goals of the 05/06 season, tipping over a Deano header late on in his third debut.
