2002/2003 Season Question

Was that the first time ever that a team from outside the top tier had reached the semi-finals of both the FA Cup and League Cup in the same season?

No, it wasn't. In 1990, Oldham reached the semi finals of both competitions (helped by their plastic pitch), getting to the final of the league cup (including a 6-0 win over West Ham in one of the semi legs) and losing to Man Utd in the FA Cup semi after a replay.

That was a great season. I was 14 at the time, and it definied my subsequent relationship to United in many ways.

I was working on the moor last year, and Carl Asaba came in to the shop. I mentioned the 02/03 season and he said something along the lines of 'yeah, good times...shame i'm older and fatter now'. Awkward.

Just remembered, Bolton 1999/2000. Lost to Tranmere in League Cup Semi Finals, Villa on penalties in the FA Cup Semi and then Ipswich in Play Off Semi Final.
