I'm going down. We're getting the train via Donny (as mentioned it's easier). Looking forward to the terracing :).

I'd love to make it on Saturday with it being standing. I'm working though, unfortunately, and can't afford to miss any shifts and spend yet more money when I've got two holidays to save up for.

Hope y'all have fun on Saturday anyway, should be a good away day, whether we win or lose. :D

All the best to everyone travelling to Peterborough. I sadly can't make it due to work/family commitments but I will be listening on the wireless :)

Hope everyone comes home happy!

It's quite obvious that we simply have to win this game but despite P'boro's league position this will not be a foregone conclusion. Surprisingly I thought they looked a reasonable side at the lane and they had a good result against Ipswich in midweek so they will be buoyed by that.

I would go with the following lineup in this one;

4-4-2: Bunn, Nosworthy, Bartley, Fortune, Kallio, Ward, Williamson, Montgomery, Yeates, Cresswell, Camara

Some positions probably pick themselves but this is our best option IMO, going into this one.

Prediction:- P'boro 0-1 Blades

Cant see it being a classic but you never know :D

This will be more difficult than it looks on paper.

I predict a dull affair, lacking in any real quality played out by 2 poor teams. We have been bang out of form with one win in 6 games and they are sat rock bottom. That said they had a good win in the last games and despite losing 2 of the last 3 we have looked more promising. Difficult to call which way this one will go.

We've lost our last 5 away games and they've won their last 2 home games. Mmmm, think they might nick this one. I'm going for Posh 2-1 Blades.

Living in Peterborough I thought my fellow Blades would appreciate a quick weather report.

We had 3-4 inches of snow in Peterborough late yesterday afternoon through to around 8pm last night. The sun is out now and it is thawing but the forecast is a real mixed bag of rain, sleet and snow. There is also a heavy frost due tonight.

I'll post another update late afternoon / early evening and another tomorrow morning for those interested.

As promised, here's a Friday 4.30pm update.

The majority of the snow on the roads has now melted, in fact I've never seen snow melt faster than it has done today. Saying that there's still a good inch or so on grassy areas with -4 estimated for tonight. All games on council pitches have been postponed already but the Blades game is still on at present.

I'll post another update early doors.

TEAM NEWS

Peterborough striker Craig Mackail-Smith is expected to be relegated back to the substitutes' bench.

Defender Gabriel Zakuani has an outside chance of being involved following a persistent groin injury.

Sheffield United striker Darius Henderson is suspended, while Marcel Seip, Chris Morgan, James Harper and Ryan France are struggling to be fit.

Nick Montgomery, Derek Geary, Toni Kallio, Nyron Nosworthy, Lee Williamson and Jamie Ward are also doubtful.

Good god, if that injury list is anything like correct who the hell is going to play in the back four? Given Blackwell's track record on these things some of them are probably bullshit but even so - maybe it would be better all round if this does get called off tomorrow AM even if I am looking forward to it. hmmmm

Peterborough v Blades - team news
Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

United's line-up for the fixture at Peterborough United on Saturday is likely to remain a mystery until the teams are announced at 2pm.

The recent glut of matches has taken a toll on the players and, discounting Gary Naysmith, as many as eleven are undergoing treatment or not even fit to train this week.

The Blades went into the midweek clash at Forest with two players only just making the start after late fitness tests, and more casuakties at the City Ground have compounded the issue.

Sam Ellis said on Thursday: "Marcel Seip, Chris Morgan, Ryan France, Kyle Bartley and Derek Geary have not trained this week and won't do on Friday.

"And Tony Kallio, Nick Montgomery, Nyron Nosworthy, Lee Williamson and Jamie Ward have only trained after treatment.

"With Darius Henderson suspended, the picture will only become clearer after various tests, but it might be that we have to include some who under normal circumstances would not be considered fit enough for at least another week.

"For example, if Morgan and/or Seip were to play it would out of desperation but, who knows, they may be forced into action. They are strong, willing lads but it would be a big decision because another bang could knock them back by four weeks.

"Derek Geary could have damaged ankle ligaments and be out for a few weeks, it depends on what has happened to the swelling 72 hours after the game."

Kyle Bartley's tremendous second-half performance at Forest was put in perspective by the fact that he injured his knee before the interval during a shaky first period.

Ellis added: "We don't think that James Harper will need an ankle operation for a floating bone and we have been trying to get him over the problem. He has been running this week to see how it is.

"I am not listing this catalogue of injuries to make excuses because we have to get on with it, but it does emphasise how difficult it is for the manager."

On-loan striker Liam Dickinson is expected to lead the line again for Posh, after scoring on his debut in midweek against Ipswich.

Fellow forward Rueben Reid is also pushing for a start after an impressive performance from the bench on Tuesday.

Well there's still the best part of an inch of snow on the grass and it's -3 right now so the ground is solid. If the game was being played right now in my back garden it would be off but it's not, the sun is out and there's 7 hours to KO so I reckon it'll be on. On top of that Posh will want it on as they're buzzing after Tuesdays win coupled with our injuries and suspension.

Enjoy your day.

Pubs for today's game...

.....anyone got any suggestions?

My spec;

Near ground
Free beer
Topless barmaids
20 second newsreel of Blades glory days playing on big screen continually.

Other than that, near ground will do.

Alco,

Decent pubs near the ground are Charters (boat on the Nene) serving lots of brown beer and generally a decent selection or the Cherry Tree on Oundle Road.

Have to say I'm really disappointed with Peterborough about this. Calling off a game at this stage (12.30) is completely unnaceptable. I know it's not that far from Sheffield, but I feel for the Blades fans who would have travlled down already.

Well it was a long way to go for a chip butty :)

Here's the best picture of the pitch we could get (mardy stewards):

peterborough.jpg

According to the stewards, it was frozen solid. They had covered the pitch, but it didn't really help, the groundsman apparently tried chiselling it with a hoe and it was useless.

The reason that it was so late, was that they waited for the referee to call it off... Who happened to turn up a lot later than he was supposed to be!

Well I had a nice chippy dinner, and I enjoyed telling the team coach to turn around with them all looking at me bemused.

And... I didn't have to travel back after seeing a defeat, which is always a plus.

"United's Championship fixture against Peterborough United, which was postponed at the weekend because of a frozen pitch, has been re-arranged for early next month.
The clash against the Posh at London Road will now take place on Tuesday 9th March, with a 7.30pm kick-off."

I can't make this game now and I'm sure others won't be able to either. Gutted!

# The club has moved the kick off time from 1945 to 1930pm so Blades fans can get the last train from Peterborough ( 21:53 ) to Sheffield via Doncaster
