* Before anyone else mentions it, apologies for the poor English in the title *

Pinched from OsloBlade's post on BladesMad

http://fotball.aftenposten.no/england/article178684.ece

(The Strindheim talents Kristoffer Lie Loekberg and Erik Toenne is going to train with Sheffield United when the season ends.)

Det bekrefter radgiver Sverre Mauseth overfor adressa.no.
(This is confirmed by "raadgiver"-which can be translated with advisor or counselor, but it doesn`t say whos "raadgiver" he is- Sverre Mauseth to adressa.no.)

(They have a standing invitation from Sheffield. Primarily it`s just training, says Mauseth.)

(He informs that the deal has happened through academy director John Pemberton and assistant director Carl Shieber.)

(They are looking for young Scandinavian players of a certain ability, and I believe this duo has that, says Mauseth.)

(He (Mauseth) believes the two are the result of good work with young talents in football in Troenderlag - a part of Norway where Norways number one team Rosenborg are from.)

(A lot of good work is beeing done in Strindheim and many of the surrounding clubs. An example is Gjermund Aasen who went straight from the second division to tasting premier league football with RBK - Rosenborg. I also find that Rosenborg is doing fenomenal youth work, that we now can see the results from.)

(Toenne has previously been training with Hoenefoss - a Norwegian premier league club.)

(Sheffield United is in 17th place in The Championship with four points from four matches.)

And then we have some comments:

Uansett. Lykke til!!
(Lets hope they leave their cry baby attitudes behind. I have seen them many times, and I get the impression they believe they are much better than everybody else, and complain a lot when things are not working out. Anyway, good luck!)

(It is actually possible to read all the mistakes in the post without "karsk"- local moonshine- and an inferiority complex. (I don`t understand this one!!) What does this SM -Mauseth-base his claim on that a lot of good work is beeing done in troendersk-from Troenderlag-(and Norwegian) football? What else than guesswork does he base this claim on, looking in a crystal bowl? That Loekberg and Toenne are ok talented is probably right, but that ok talented youth has had trails has always happened. I wish them success, but there are hundreds of bus loads with ok talented players in Norway. What is common for them all is that they will never be more than second division players. They are not hungry enough!)

(Put away your "karsk" and inferiority complexes.)

(When I saw the headline I thought it was a family reunion or something.)

(Are you sober, and who are you in Norwegian football? Which background do you have to tell us that good work is beeing done in troendersk football, and that this is the result, it is a total miss. A total miss. Norwegian football is in European standards back in the eighties, in other words a back yard league. And without economical doping from Rosenborg, Ranheim -a troendersk first division team-would be midtable in the second division, and for teams in the second division it`s a tragedy to read the table. (?I don`t understand some of the bad peasant Norwegian and lack of grammar!?) That some go on trail and come back "with their tail between their legs" has happened many times through the years. It will also happen to these two!!!)

Fortjent. Lovende spillere begge to ! Lykke til
(They deserve it. Promising players both of them! Good luck)

They are both Norway youth internationals, playing for Strindheim, a Trondheim club without great potential/fan base, but who are good at producing young players. They play in the third tier in Norway, are doing ok with a very young squad, I think their goalkeeper is the oldest at 24. Tønne, a skilful left back, was at Rosenborg as a youth player, but somewhat strangely chose to join Strindheim (this would be like a Blades youngster chosing to join Rotherham). Løkberg is a central midfielder with great stamina and is also said to be a good passer.

I'm on this one. Apparently, oh, every day, when he wakes up, he thanks the Lord he's Welsh. Italian Schmitalian...

Rosenborg Tinted Glasses

May I suggest Bergen, that you are looking through Rosenborg tinted glasses there?
Any analogy that pairs The Blades with Rosenborg falls short since they actually win stuff and we win, . . . . . . well, nowt.

A question for you. What is it that drives an obviously intelligent, erudite, sensible Scandinavian to support The Blades? Why don't you pick one of the decent teams like many of your compatriots do? Is it the same mentality that leads you to self flagellate after a session in the sauna and then dive into an ice cold Fjord, just for the hell of it?

Kenilworth - please do not post again. Your avatar scares the bejesus out of me.

And yours doesn't? Some psychopathic monk wearing a hoody and rubbing his hands! What could be more scary?
I only bite if my balls are tickled. Grrrrrrrr.

Lets hope they are as good as Roger Nilson and better than Jostein Flu!

Roger Nilsen was awesome, if they are as good as him i'll love it :)

Hope you wasn't one of the many people who bet he would score first at 33/1 every week even though he never did!

The analogy was just to show that the player chose to join a smaller club. Strindheim sometimes have crowds of less than 50.

I became a Blade in 1991 by joining a Play By Mail manager game, where by random I was given the job of managing Sheffield United. It started there, and once the decision is made you can't change. We finished 9th that season though. I probably didn't expect us to spend most of the next 20 seasons in the second tier...

And what do you reckon for the next 20 Bergs??

Well, all I can say is you're a glory-hunting novice!

If you want a real story of suffering, think about your fellow countryman Hans Petter Syversen, who's followed the Blades since 1968, for no better reason than he had a subscription to one of the weekly English football magazines and that season United hovered around the relegation zone in Div 1, and for some reason, he was desperate for the red and white wizards to survive......

......we know what happened, but he was hooked. It wasn't too bad for the first few years, promotion and several years in the top flight, but since then, oh dear. All the way to Div 4 and back before you even knew we play in red and white.

In a way, it's the story of my life too, but his crowning glory is that he managed to persuade his soon to be wife to honeymoon in Sheffield. I'd never have dared to suggest something so brilliantly outrageous.

Bless you both and all the others too!

Are you a friend of Hans Petter, Trigger? He's been unable to join the last couple of Scandinavian Blades group trips, hopefully he'll come next time. The photo below shows us celebrating after the Leeds home game in April 2006.
