We've gained an astonishing 20 points this season in the last 20mins of games (draws converted to victories v bury twice, oldham, northampton, cov, chezzie, gills, oxford, rochdale, and losses converted to draws at fleetwood and bradford), and dropped only 3 (charlton and millwall). Without those 17 points we'd be floundering in 10th place.

Champions give their all til the final whistle - that's the attitude that Clough managed to cultivate at times, and that's the difference Wilder has made this season, and that's why we're going up as CHAMPIONS!

It's a game of 90 minutes (90+5), as they say.

Most of those matches have had a common theme though and the Northampton match was a typical example.

Opposition teams get tired and can't keep up closing us down then they sit deeper and deeper trying to hold on in the last 20 minutes. So it's just wave after wave of attack from us.

In them circumstances it's only a matter of time before we score.
It's nothing to do with luck, like outsiders that don't attend might think.

Another common theme is that we stay patient, lots of sideways keep possession passing and probing on the edge of the box attacking and we resist the desperate "gerritintbox" direct long ball style.

Always thought this league was a piece of poss to master
You organise the team you get them to work hard for 90 mins and you put a shift in every week

We have been severely short changed by our previous few managers

Now we've got a gud un it makes you wonder what the hell the others were doing

Not one to quash your enthusiasm mate, all I'd advise is wait until there's a healthy gap between us in first place and the team in second position. A three point lead based on today's results is outstanding, but as we've seen with Scunny, one minute they're 'unassailable' leaders of this division, then their world turns upside down. Don't misunderstand me, being leaders is tribute to the manager and players, but as lovely as it feels, there are no givens, the manager will ensure that the team maintains the correct focus, and hopefully we'll pick up points as we move along. As for our position. well let's see if the desire is there between now and the season's end. Of course it'd be foolish to suggest that there isn't a hunger to succeed amongst the management and first team squad, but whatever we achieve will be because we deserve it.

Agree with itsinyerblood.

I am fucking dancing a jig inside at being top by three points. I have, low gut ache at this JTW though. I just hope we get at least two players of worth and lose no one of worth. Clarke needs to be moved on. There's too much distance between now and May to call us champions. If we are top by at least five points come the beginning of April then barring some disastrous drop in form I'll feel better then.
