No business yet?

In some ways I wish the transfer window only lasted a week or maybe two because it would just remove the frustrating "is it today dad" scenario that we all hope that today is the day we sign someone (decent). No doubt United's style of bidding is something like as follows:

1 bid far low on a players expected value. The players club says sod off.
2 We then take a few days and come in with a slightly improved offer, no doubt offering one of our many crap players no one wants; injury prone players that no one wants; crap and injury prone players no one wants and finally; players that Adkins just doesn't fancy that no one wants.
3 Then after the players team rejects all are talented player swap deals.
4 We then increase the offer, again by a small amount, and its rejected again.
5 Now we're approaching the deadline day. We then increase the offer again, and its accepted only for the players wages and the agents fees to be too high.
6 We finally sort all that out and we're out bided by another team or the we run out of time and cue the great line:

The loan window is open in a week, we're pleased with the squad but we're still looking as ever".

Its the Blades way!

McCabe needs to make a statement. It's a disgrace that we haven't signed anybody yet.

We need a Centre Back, Winger and Striker.

Dan Burn, Andros Townsend and Emmanuel Adebayor will do.

Hammond is already proving he is a good signing we have at last got a midfield.
Yes we all know Hammond is now starting to prove his worth. But including him in our JTW business is like someone re-wrapping an old Christmas present then giving it you for your birthday.

I just think it would be nice for the club to be in a position where we can sign players who we both need and want early in the window to stop some of this negativity.

We play into the sellers hands by negotiating all month then paying over the odds last minute. Make an offer, if it's not accepted walk away. Vice versa when you're selling your best players. Novel but it might work.

Hey if we're going round in circles..

Never mind about the lack of transfer activity........check out the Goliath Tiger Fish thread !!!!! :)

23 January – Coutts and Freeman.
24 January – Brayford.
25 July – Sharp, Sammon.
Just a few deals you may have missed. Or at least, they weren't "last minute" after "negotiating all month".
Matty Done is the only player in fact in the last two transfer windows that we have signed "at the last minute", and I very much doubt that we had been "negotiating all month" for him.
We didn't "pay over the odds" for any of these people unless you are including Brayford's wages.
So there is really not much in what you are arguing. Not having a go but people keep repeating this kind of cobblers and it's simply not true.

I agree we need to get rid of loads of players, at the same time we need a few good additions to add to the middle of the table squad we seem to have at the minute. We have already got rid of a few players so there should be no excuse for having nobody lined up as a replacement, meaning one of the good additions required should've already been attained or is shortly going to be attained. We seem to take forever with these things.

When was the last time we didn't sign anyone in the JTW?
Wilson's first season? I know the next one we signed five players, granted some on loan and the majority were shit but we signed them.
One after that? Brayford on loan, Scougall, Paynter
One after that, Brayford permanently, Davies, Holt, Done, Coutts.

It's not like we really need to make things up to criticise the club.
We're not completely out of the reckoning for promotion, why don't we grab the bull by the horns so to speak, push the flaming boat out and go all out for promotion in a season where the financial rules let you?

"Last minute" is subject to interpretation. Why wait until the final week? Get the business done in the first few weeks and have them in the squad for January rather than February.

Understand that the selling team may wish to hold on for other offers but if we set our stall out there's no need to. It's probably more a rant at the transfer window system in general and the amount of last minute deals that go on but we always seem a willing victim rather than trying to break the mould.

I think £1.5m for a right back is "over the odds" no matter whether he walks on water in the eyes of most.

July is irrelevant as I'm talking Jan transfer window, was more than happy with the timings of the summer signings ahead of the season starting.

You make every point bang on for me. Now whilst I liked it when Brayford came you do have to question what we could've bought for that amount attacking wise when Flynny was doing more than a good enough job back there at the time.

This transfer window is typical of a normal transfer window for our club, so why so surprised/shocked/bothered...

Delete where applicable.....

True, but that depends on our true financial situation. It's a simple choice - go for it for the rest of the season and see what happens or get 14-15k crowds in the Third Division next season.

I know there's lots of bullshit spouted about transfers at ths time of the season but it's reported that QPR have signed Peterborough's Conor Washington for £2.8m and Bristol City are after Gillingham's Bradley Dack for £1m, so unless United do their usual of flogging any talent, it's beginning to be in our hands. Will we take it?

Flynn and Alcock were injured at the time and we’d had to endure McGahey at right back. Something I hope we never see again. Also, we had a big squad, we didn’t want much more in terms of numbers but we wanted some extra quality above and beyond what we had to try to kick us on to the next level. If we made a marquee signing at any of CB, LM or CF(Over 6 foot) of similar quality this January, I’d be more than happy.
