Time for Wilder to do what he's best at and motivate the players to give absolutely everything and run through brick walls from here until the end of the season.

15 games left and we've increased our squad depth significantly so injuries become less of a factor..... no reason players can't fully motivated giving their absolute maximum 110% for this short final period

Don't care if they're new signings or existing players.. if they're not giving everything for this final sprint, then they come out of the team.

Agree with you completely and it's time for everyone to get on board, but Wilder must get his team selection and tactics right from the start of every game.

Pick players in their correct positions and sort out the ponderous playing out from the back. Instill intensity into passing as well as pressing. Hit balls down the channels more and stop changing formation when we're a goal up - go at teams and finish games off. Create confidence for the fans and fans will create confidence for the players.

It all starts with Chris Wilder on Wednesday night.

Slightly off topic but I watched the highlights of the Burnley FA cup game this morning and they interviewed Marcus Edwards after the game and asked if he was happy and excited to score the winner on his debut. In the most monotone, dull, unexcited voice he replied that he was happy and excited and just made me think he might end up being a great player but he wouldn't fit in for us at all and was the sort of player who would have no heart or spirit for the fight. I want air punching and massive smiles and basham style choochoo trains and stearman style pints over the head with insane celebrations and character from my team. He seemed like such a boring git.

Long story short, I think we'll go up simply based on this 🤪

I'd start the game against Boro with:

Cooper

Clarke Anel Robbo Burrows

Vini

JRS Peck Hamer BBD

Campbell

Give Robbo until 60 and then let's see what Holding can do in there. Ideally make subs and bring on Holding, Choudhury, Cannon, O'Hare and Brewster as and when appropriate. Let's stay positive and go for the jugular.

If we can ban burrows from throwing the ball back to JLT (who invariably then passes back to Cooper) it would help. Must have happened 10 times on Satdi.
Why not let Robbo launch it down the line and Burrows can drop in until Robbo is back in position - this stops the negative back passing unless..............

Robbo throws the ball back to Cooper from the opposition corner flag 🤣

I would bring Alfie back in, better at defending

Just to be clear, this is not a team selection post.. in fact it's kinda the opposite.

We've got a squad strong enough to get points for autos, this is about Wilder motivating the players to give maximum effort and determination in the final run home.

As FTPE said, Wilder mentioned a bad type of arrogance in the post match presser and many opposition fans have said we've looked stuck in 2nd gear.

Now is the time to put the afterburners on and get the attitude and determination spot on.

Have you watched any JRS interviews?

No dont agree with that.

With the current tv deal we get access to most games and tbh the performances through the season have been crap. The results generally great but to watch ugh not entertaining at all. I think if we get promoted we'll be absolute pants in the PL.

I thought at first this was some new way of playing to exist in the higher league when we get there, but the longer the season has gone in I am just bemused at how on earth we'd even score a goal in the PL playing like this.

Today I saw the back end of Villa v Spurs in the FA Cup and was watching the passing and I thought we couldn't do that because either a touch would be too heavy or someone tries to take on too many players thus losing possession. I really fear for promotion, not that we might not do it, but how, certainly under Wilder, we'd not repeat another awful season.

Whilst not wishing my team to fail, I am fed up with Wilder blaming this or that and it is how we are playing that matters. He is responsible for that and as others have alluded to, this bloody awful backwards, sideways via Cooper, banana style football really pisses me off. It might be better not to get promoted forcing either Wilder to change style or if needs must, get another manager in. At the moment it is turgid, a sort of George Graham on Temu style.

Fair enough but whichever way you look at it - desire/determination or style of play (I do think it's a bit of both fwiw) at the end of the day it requires Wilder to implement a reaction.

Wilder has his faults but not man management. He will get it right and the best from the players. It might take a few more games but we will hit the tape hard.

I’m not saying we’ll get promoted but without his skills we wouldn’t be close. Rewind one year. He has done well.

I agree his man management is top notch and is what inspired this post, I really hope he can get the players giving absolutely everything in this final stretch 🙏

Selection is the one area that needs careful scrutiny. Hamer is our most inventive player, and to dilute that invention by asking him to play in a wide position is akin to shooting ourselves in the foot. We have the type of players who can protect and assist Hamer in midfield, so I hope we make good use of this player and the influence he can have on our play.

Wilder seems content to set the team up defensively in order not to concede. Our team then scores and becomes even more defensive, just to protect a one goal lead!

Wilder should utilize the industry of O’Hare and the brilliance of Hamer to push the whole side into attack mode, especially at home against team like Portsmouth. Sitting on a one goal lead will not work. Playing quick attacking football will.

Get Holding in to start and give the defence some confidence. A player of his undoubted quality will want and need to make an impact here. When Wilder uses the word arrogance, he actually means complacency. They seem to have become complacent using the Wilder lack of style and defensiveness.

Peck should start from the bench every time. He is a good player, and starting on the bench should motivate him to cut out the inconsistency in his game. When he starts, his overconfidence gets the better of him.

Even away games against lesser teams need us to have a more aggressive, attacking style. We lack the skill and motivation to defend successfully by retaining possession at the back.

Please, please put players in their best position. To do otherwise has become predictable and makes it easy for teams to beat us.

Wilder has the strength in depth now. With so few games left, it’s time to cut the players loose.

Absolutely this.. stop the bullshit playing out from the back pep football that totally destroys your creative players!!

We had no plan of attack which meant the team looked utterly clueless at getting out of its own half , let alone going forward into Pompey's half.

There was one laughable situation when Coops had the ball at his feet (after yet another tippy happy from a GKick) and Pompey's press was so good that there was not a single teammate to whom he could pass.

He was so over-coached into "passing out from the back" that he literally stood still for 10-15 seconds coz his brain couldn't compute his next move.

I thought he might complain to the ref that all his options were blocked , so could the ref tell him what to do 🤣

I am heartily sick of the farting about from a GKick - coz all we do is take great risks of passing it across our own box and then boot it aimlessly anyway.

Might as well have Coops boot it and avoid having the crowd with their hearts in their mouths whilst Robbo tries to be Beckenbaeur.

It's just comical.

But whenever it went long it came straight back.

Pompey pushed 4 men on when Cooper had the ball. They were trying to force us to go long because they knew they would win it and pick up the seconds. The issue was the 4 across of the middle did not offer and I include Hamer with that. Everyone says he should play in the middle but that's what he did yesterday. He kept going inside which left no options in width to beat the press. Choudry and Souza were static and we were overrun.

It also didn't help that we didn't have any pacemor energy on the pitch until Peck,Brewster and JRS came on...all subs that should have been made at half time.

Also It is quite clear BBD is short of match sharpness at the moment as are Souza,Clarke and Choudury which doesn't help our movement ( lack of) when Cooper has the ball

Would you be very excited if you was him? He's gone from living in Lisbon to Burnley.

For sure but hard work alone won’t cut it . Get them organised so everyone one knows their job and have an understood option if doesn’t work .

What does Wilder do best?
If I was a player and he moaned about the team after playing half of it in unnatural positions then I wouldn't be inspired, in fact I'd be pretty pissed off. e.g BBD playing right wing, more so young Brooks who has no right foot to play that side, Wilder is ruining that kid.
What I see as the best of Wilder is deflecting any criticism from himself when things don't go well, be it injuries, match officials, the fans or the players in general. He is the football equivalent of Kier Starmer.
