Reading

I think reading will be a tough game but the positives are:
1 reading are coming off the back of a defeat
2 they had one of their players sent off
3 if we start boggy we have a chance

There is a danger that the players will be deflated after the late equaliser, but if we keep it tight (like we did today) then we have a good chance. It is a good time to play Reading. They have had the sting taken out of their tail in recent weeks. They have not won in the last 3 (although they#ve had tought games) and they have started to stutter a little. I'd sooner be playing them now than 3 weeks ago.

A win would set us up nicely for the Palace game on Saturday. Adams: drop Simmo and start with Boggy. I also hope he focuses on set piece defending and motivation. I would sit the lads down and say 'don't lose heart ... you are playing well ... be patient .... the win will come .... stop letting yourseves down .... cut out making silly mistakes ..... but most importantly keep your heads up and keep doing what you are doing!!'

Who's going to play in place of Simmo?

So Simonsen gets dropped on Tuesday night and if we don't win again it will be, "Adams is clueless, putting a 17 year old in goal" etc. etc.

Dropping Simmo isn't an option, sadly.

Starting with Boggy definitely is.

Boggy and Evans up front could be a great pairing, if Boggy puts in the kind of performance we know he can (i.e. Forest away).

Can't help but think we won't be getting anything from Reading. In my memory we haven't really had a great time v them over the years.

Don't kid yourselves. Bogdanovic provided something for the first time in weeks and weeks. This 20 minute performance is nowhere near enough to convince me. WHo was it that wanted him on loan? Hamilton? he is by no means a superstar, our problems lie much deeper e.g. centre mid. I would say dropping monty may be more valuable for the team.

Okay, I'll bite. Why would dropping Monty be the best option? Because in recent games he has been far from the worst player on the pitch. Granted, he's not played like Zidane, but who in a United shirt has been outstanding this season? And if you drop him then who do you bring in to replace him? Williamson didn't even merit a place on the bench yesterday so I can only imagine he is injured or tired again.

As for dropping Simonsen, then who replaces him? Wright? He's injured more than Williamson. George Long? He's 12 years old, or at least he looks it. It is unfortunate that our keeper is the only choice despite not exactly inspiring confidence in the supporters. But that's the way our season has gone, and in fact how the past two or three have gone - too many average players getting matches because we have no alternatives.

Errrm I think you find that Williamson was suspended yesterday following his little indiscretion at Ipshite last week

They do keep doing what they are doing, not winning.

Hibs, it starts with the same letter so not a bad effort.

We beat them 3 0 at the lane last season
Fortune cresswell and Morgan I think we also saved a pen

Keep the back 5 together. Let them see out the bad patch together, lets not scapegoat the goalkeeper. Defenders make mistakes, so do keepers, but keepers get punished for their mistakes much more visibly.

Boggy and Ched should start.

Cresswell for Yeates

And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Micky, get two wingers who can cross a ball or deliver a corner/ set piece!

Who's going to play in place of Simmo?

Richard Wright.

Why have a keeper on the books if you are not willing to pay him. Simmonsen has cost us at least 10 points this season.

How many games are we going to let Simmo lose or cost us points in before we drop him? His lack of commanding his area is a massive problem and keeps costing us points. But oh no, there is noone to replace him. What about the Ex England keep who is sitting on the bench or just training and taking up a wage? Nah, why would we consider him

I agree though Swiss that we should play the same back 4 and that Ched and Boggy should start. They are our best 2 strikers and should be given a game or 2 to try and form a partnership.

Richard Wright is injured. He'd already won his place before that.

UTB

I think wright isn't back to match fitness yet, which is why i asked the question.

Besides which he's started twice, and gone off with injury in both games. Hardly a a reliable back up.

I was not there yesterday, so I cannot say whether we should keep the same (or similar team) based on merit. Williamson is back in contention and must be in with a shout.

Someone has started a seperate thread on this (http://www.s24su.com/showthread.php?22063-Reading) - which I am sure will get merged at some point - and I posted these comments yesterday:

I think we have every chance of winning this one. We have a decent record against them in the last few seasons and they have not won in their last 4 league games. I would play:

--------------- Wright

Parrino Collins Lowry Jordan

Yeates* Doyle Monty** Quinn

------- Boggy Ched

* I am not sure how Yeates played, so I would maybe play Ward (depending on his attitude etc). I would prefer Yeates to Cresswell though. Oh and please don't play Willo out there! Forgot about Lowton actaully and would maybe play him there.
** By all accounts Monty and Doyle did ok together in the centre of the park, whilst not creating much. I would be tempted to play Williamson for Monty, but am relucatant for a two reasons: 1) he cannot act like he did and expect to walk straight back into the team, 2) Monty has been doing ok and (although I am not a fan of his) does he warrant dropping.

I think this will be another draw. I expect it to be 1-1, which on paper wouldn't seem a bad result (but in the circumstances probably not great). I hope I get proved wrong and United can win. It would be great going into the Palace game level on points.

Ok fair enough. I take it back. We have to stick with Flappy :-(

so now we ahve flappy, ploddy, and elpiton all in the same line up ;) Add Boggy and Dopey (Parrino) to that and we are close to having the 7 dwarfs :D

Reading looked average for most of the game at Norwich yesterday, but we have to keep Kebe and Long quiet, or they will hurt us.

Generally, things have been pretty even against Reading over the years. We have won 13 league games to their 15.

Our bad run started in February 2003 when for the first time in the history of the world we lost at home to them. We then went a further 9 league games without a win against them (over a 6 year period). But we have now won our last 3 and we have to hope this recent trend continues.

However, given our current form, and the fact we couldn't beat either Leicester or Millwall at home, I am not expecting us to win.

I am not sure it's about who we play anymore. Whoever we pick doesn't seem to be any better than who they replace. we have a team full of squad players. They just need convincing they are good enough

SV,

Monty has been one of the few regulars in a poor and losing team. Is it really so outrageous that we give the pairing if Willo and Doyle a go? It's hardly going to ruin anything is it?

Simmo has to stay in net, the team will be the same as yesterday except Boggy will be brought in, possibly at the expense of the awful Yeates. I d not fancy us to beat Reading and I am one of the more positive blades. I think they have that extra bit of quality in players such as Long. Sadly, even though we need points quick and we are a home, I would take a point.

Same starting eleven for me. Despite one or two under-par performances, the rest of the players did very well IMO and worked hard as a unit. I would go for continuity now.....the team needs to settle and players need to get used to one another. We can win this one with more of the same and just a bit more in the final third.

Reading looked average for most of the game at Norwich yesterday, but we have to keep Kebe and Long quiet, or they will hurt us.

It only takes an average team to beat us
