I think Williams is pretty average. Don't remember slagging him off too much. I saw little point in signing him though. That is more because he adds little to the squad. He is not as good as JFL and maybe marginally better than Taylor. Waste of wages imo.

But we'll just ignore all the other matches he's started in his normal position that we've won shall we? I'm pretty sure that recently someone (Darren maybe) did a breakdown of our results with and without Montgomery and it seeems we have done pretty well overall with him.

Believe it or not Old I am also interested in being entertained when I got to the Lane. I am sick of watching the useless get playing for my beloved club, he is truly pathetic. There will be tension in the air tomorrow from the word go if this plank plays for us and his ineptitude spreads around the whole side. It is fair play to Monty that he has made himself a fantastic living out of football but for all your half baked support of him just also please accept that thousands see him as a massive hinderence to the very achievable aim of watching SUFC win playing decent, attractive football.

But on the other hand, as someone else pointed out, the only game in which Doyle and Williamson were the central midfield paring (as people said they should have been at Wednesday) was at home to Huddersfield and saw us 3-0 down at half time and Williamson taken off at HT, leading to no further goals conceded in the second half.

I'm sure all of us want to be entertained, but I'm also sure that I've seen a lot of very unentertaining games with very poor team performances without him being in the side.

Like a lot of people posting on this forum I realise Montgomery has limitations. I'm sure he realises this himself. And yes, sometimes he does play very badly. But some of the criticism is way out of proportion. There are some people who would have us believe that he has never ever played well and that every poor team performance this season and in the last 10 years or so has been down to him. And that is quite simply not the case. I'm sure if they try hard enough they'll manage to make him responsible for our 1981 relegation to the fourth division!
