10 more wins

Bearing in mind most teams mentioned have to play each other, all chasing points, there’s not much to bet on as to who will emerge from the chasing pack.
 



I'm going to nail my colours to the mast and say here and now we are going up this season despite all the negativity on this forum at the moment. Performances are just that it is the points that matter. Yes West Brom and Boro are on great runs of form at the moment and have shot up the table into the top six but they have not closed the points gap to ourselves. We will soon be into the territory where if anyone wants to overtake us they will have to return a point per game more than we do and we are averaging 2pts per game. Anyone think Boro or West Brom are going to win all their remaining games? Even if they keep up their form to promotion winning 2pts per game standards we are going to have to go into relegation form of a point per game until the end of the season. I just can't see anyone catching us.

We are also in the position whereby when we play any of the immediate chasing pack we can afford to draw against them, those games have become must win for the others
 
It seems so comfortable and simple when you look at the points and points per game average needed

But when you consider....

Regular poor performances
Unrelenting injuries
No signings?
Rivals in form and strengthening
A very hard 10 game run after the next 2 or 3
And how a subsequent closing of the gap could negatively impact us further

.... it can still fall apart, without a doubt

We have to relentlessly win every game we can while we still have enough players available and hope the gap will then be too big to lose

I think we'll hang on but it will be messy

Middlesbrough play Watford the week after ( when we are in the cup) so a win v Hull would really mean they need to win both those games

Go out and handle our business on Friday. Worst we can then be on Sunday is 11 points clear, and yet another game fewer remaining.

The longer we maintain the gap, the harder it is to catch us. One game at a time.

Don't get me wrong I would like us to win the Championship, it would be the biggest thing we have won in my 46 years supporting the Blades. But I would also snap anyone's arm off now for 2nd place.

Sunderland win & Boro win/ draw away is the perfect package.

Saying that we’re 11 points clear, effectively 12 with goal difference. We need to just keep winning & try and get some bodies back

Exactly how I see it.
If we do take care of the next 5 games, as form / league position suggests we should .. then I think the gap will probably be too large to close with too few fixtures remaining for the chasing pack.

If we limp into that tough run, which starts with Middlesbrough at home in a month's time, whilst further accumulating injuries... then I could see a repeat of October happening.
But it would be even worse given it would be teams around us picking up points against us.

Hopefully both home wins to hault Boro and Baggies momentum, infact wouldn't mind them both getting battered...one game at a time for us though.
 
Keep grinding out wins, keep our better players (you all know who I mean) and we're there and that's a promotion winning team!
Yesterday was frustrating, going from playing some really lovely football to down right shocking, but then we score a third!!!
Good to see players coming back from injury too, albeit Stevens and Baldock now out.
That's a fantastic points cushion between us and third, so in the words of Bradley Walsh " let's make that count"!

2 players came back from injury yesterday in fairness and we've only lost 3 since we came back. Mcburnie just tweeted he will be back soon too which will be a unbelievable boost

The other element is they have to win when they play us. A draw does more damage to their ambitions than ours given our current lead. [edit: Just spotted that Stevo already made this point]
That on top of your point means it’s surely can only be one side out of all of them that could emerge as a challenger.
Of course it could happen with teams like Watford but it would need to be an impressive, almost unheard of run. They have to play Boro at the end of this month, and here’s their February.

All those chasing teams are going to have these runs, and they need to pretty much win them all.

All that said, the most important element is that we need to continue to do our bit, and keep picking up those 10-11 wins.

Looks like ours will have to do it on their own
Our supporters have turned into spectators and we've lost the very thing that gave us an edge in games our crowd

The negative comments on here have outnumbered the positive ten to one
With many pointing out the obvious that another season in this division will have big financial repercussions but instead of that spurring them on to get behind a team that in spite of this pressure and a horrendous injury hit season have done phenomenally to get top two
All they can do is moan about the performances and make pissy juvenile comments about players who are in poor form
Doesn't matter to them that we are putting out a patched up team every week

Failure seems to be a comfort blanket for our fanbase and its like all the heartbreaks we've endured mean you can't be excited when things are going well because well ...you know ...its the blades way but what about Leicester away in 90 ?

Wilders team at Leeds bashams arriving ?
Warnocks team taking us back to the big time after almost disappearing up our own arses

And last but not least the bouncing day massacre when we changed the culture and mentality of both clubs by crushing there's and recalibrating ours?

I get it no ones seen more shit than me but why does being a blade have to be so fucking miserable ? Even when we are doing well so many seem to be out of their comfort zones of morose bitterness at the world around them?

It's not all bad we've had a lot more good times than most so why do so many desperately cling on to those bad times like that's just inevitably the way things are ?

It seems to me that considering the injury problem and potential outcome if things go wrong, the crowd and fan base generally are being very cautious, it was the same in the Wilder promotion season, albeit from further down the table, until that 'Bashams arriving' moment.

The closer we get to the end of the season, fans will become more optimistic, we will have a Bashams arriving moment, if we beat one of the three teams we're competing with, i.e. Burnley, West Brom, Middlesborough, I think we'll really start to believe.
