This is the place for all your Burnley match chatter.

Woohoo - a home Saturday game - I'll be there!! Gonna be a cold one :)

An interesting debate occurring elsewhere... who do you start on the right?

Cotterill or Halford?

Halford, him and Naughton have got a good understanding going now, why change that? Both of them can overlap and cover each other as well as taking on their man and delivering a cross. Halford also offers a LOT more defensively. Cotterils already had a chance to show his worth this year and not performed, for me he'll have to wait to get back in the team

Halford, with Cotterill on the bench IF he's been putting in the effort in training.

I understand people wanting Cotterill to get a chance now, but for me this is not the problem. Halfords performances of late have been nothing short of great. He really seems to be fitting in here at the lane, and for me there is no logical reason to drop him. So to bring Cotterill in on the right wing, its either a case of a straight swap for a very inform Halford, or dropping Halford back to RB and dropping Naughton (which I think we'll all agree is completely out of the question!)

So i say leave the right side as it is.

It has been highlighted several times now, our problem is not creating chances! Its taking them! That for me signals that our midfield is doing quite well....the problem is the strikers!

Cant speak for the Ipswich game, but for Wolves, both Sharp and Beattie were very poor. For me, Sharp does not merit a place in the starting line-up, but then again Webber hasnt looked like scoring either.....could Cotterill play upfront?

Im sure hes played there abit at other clubs? Im not sure how effective it would be, but....just an idea.

wow this is getting long, and dingledog shouts at me if i make long posts......haha

It's only cus he has to go and empty his old man wee bag half way through them... and when he gets back, he's forgotten what he's just read :D

(He'll shout at me for being ageist again on Saturday now )

I think some people are determined not to like certain players, and I think Halford is one of those players. He came to us with a lot of baggage and hardly glowing reports from Reading and Sunderland. The chap who sits next to me was getting ready to send him back to the SoL earlier in the season.

Halford isn't fast... but at 6ft 5... he's never going to be. His throws could be really dangerous if he learnt how to use them properly and he's still relatively young (24 next Monday).

Cotterill is also young with a lot to learn... but you've got to give the start to the person who's taken their chance to impress.

So in that case, why is Sharp still playing? :D

HAHA

Please let me be there on Saturday when this kicks-off.....should be entertaining!

I think Sharp will be dropped for Saturdays match in favour of Henderson. As for Cotterill a place on the bench would be good for tactical & possible impact reasons.

I reckon if you play Heno and Beattie upfront you will need pace on the wings.

Maybe Theif on the left and Cotterill on the right.

Leaves us extremely open to attacking play right across the midfield though with neither Cotterill or Dyer having a great deal about them defensively. Also a bit unfair on Halford...

i will be working up in the boxes tomorrow don't know wether i'll get to see much, will knows whats happening though :)

In my poorly constructed post, i forgot to add, playing Theif and Cotterrill on each wing if playing with Hendo and BT upfront.

I don't think we would be too exposed on each wing as Naysmith gets lightheaded when crossing the half way line and Naughton is sound whatever he is up against.

Maybe a good idea to try that today though, Burnley fans have said their biggest weakness is a lack of pace in defence.

We're playing Halford and Quinn out wide, not much pace there. Just what Burnley wants.

I envisage a frustrating afternoon, as we fail to break down Burnley due to our predictable and one dimensional play they break on teh counter and nick a goal.

I'm usually wrong though, hopefully that continues.

Bugger, not good enough, again though we made more than enough chances to have won the game. They didn't dominate us by a long stretch AGAIN, yet took their chances. So far, between us and the teams above us, they seem to put away the majority of their chances and we don't.

Ugo in for Morgs and Webber or Henderson in for Billy next week for me.

Henderson in for Sharp. I don't know how Sharp is still starting games. I could do better than him!!

Sharp just isnt doing it & needs dropping altogether & loaning out to a league 1 side. Hopefully that will get his confidence back by playing regular & hopefully scoring regular. I hope Blackwell regrets selling Stead now as Beattie apart he was out only other consistent striker.
We need a new finishing coach as well! What the hells going off!

Consistently what? that was one of the reasons he went, because he was too hot and cold. He's made his usual on fire start, before returning to his frustrating self. He wasn't even as good as Sharp against us the other week :(

Another poor performance after dominating most of the possession.

We were fortunate to score the goals we got as Sharp was apparently well offside when he won that penalty.

We are just not good enough even though we managed to make Wolves and Burnley look very average.

Looked like the left back was playing him on from where I was.

Had we put our chances away we'd be saying differently, but sadly all of a sudden we are leaking goals and struggling to take our chances. Need to improve, quickly.

rubbish..........................Blackie Out he is fu*king hopeless.

Exactly.

Also we cant keep banking on Beattie to score every game. He needs a strike partner that can stay onside and score. As for the defence its time for Ugo to come back and maybe even Sun in for Naismith.

Cotteril needs to wake up and look what other players are doing.
He stood on the halfway line more than once as Naughton was setting up to play him through, only for N to have no chance of passing the ball cos of were Cotts was.

We let them play today in a lot of ways.
We don't seem to have a style of play other than mixing it up, which isn't working against the better teams.

Their Penalty was never one in a million years (Not sure about ours though cos was on the Kop).

Is this going to be a Bassett esq season where we start to play after Christmas, I hope so.

Take away BT and its 17 games since our strike force scored.

Take all our points away and we'd be bottom of the league!

Yes we need more players chipping in with goals, but they all count!

Blackie doesn't sound happy. "Thought both pens were debatable, didn't want to comment on the ref because of the "respect" campaign.

Not been clinical, looks as though Billys goal could have been onside. Not enjoyed it at all. Didn't work keeper enough, been working on it all week and it hasn't happened.

Got to be smarter, players have got to take their responsibility, one or two aren't at the races."
