‘Fans need to do their part’

It wasn't great yesterday was it. Flat as a fart, more than usual tbh.
I'm looking fwds to Sunderland away where the real fans can get behind us, the fans that were there in L1 and not the new wave of student fans or other hangers on from the prem seasons. Its them that are killing us at home IMO.
Are you seriously implying it's the fans fault Luton won?
Nothing to do with the manager picking a team effectively with no midfield.
Nothing to do with the mind numbing tactics? and pedestrian pace. I thought I'd rocked up at an 0ver 65s Walking Football match.
As has been said, fans pay good money to watch. Players are payed very good money to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. That hasn't happend since the World Cup save the glory game against Spurs.
In what other environment is it the customers responsibility to sing encouraging songs to employees?
Fans respond positively in a number of situations. Perceived injustice, sustained effort and application, a goal, a cracking tackle, a great save, a near miss.
They don't tend to get aroused by boring apparently couldn't care less no game plan stuff.

They could play some pre-recorded fan noise over the tannoy during the game whenever it gets quiet. That way we can sit there on our phones for an hour and a half and there's still a really good atmosphere. Everybody wins.

No I'm not. Nowhere in my post did I say it was. I just said we've acquired a few fans that arent true Blades. And that this isn't helping. Sunderland away will be different to Saturday. Think we'll fill the away end and make some noise.

Think the problems on the pitch are more pressing than any in the stands. Not saying good vocal backing isn't important, but it helps if the team looks like it has a clue what it's supposed to be doing. That's on the manager.

I'd say the crowd support is a long way down the list of why we are struggling. Yes it could be noisier. However I am not sure the fans have particularly got on their backs during a poor run.

The manager and players need to set the tone.

I went to Hillsborough over Xmas and it was deathly silent. They still won easily. There are other teams at the top of leagues where it is quiet too.

The fans will respond if the team plays with energy or there's a challenge, goalmouth action. Look at the Spurs game.

The players form and results has fell off a cliff because they are simply not playing well. They aren't winning battles and not being brave enough with the ball.

To criticise the fans for our drop off is a poor take. We've watched some right rubbish over the years but can live with it if players work hard/show quality but this current team for all the ability it might have is serving up very little entertainment. We did not have one proper shot (outside of the Egan scramble) all game! They have to give the crowd something. Anything.
It's quiet at all home clubs stadium and most teams play in near silence

But the clappers have to find something else to blame rather than face the truth

Support makes a huge difference. All the “difficult places to go” have hostile atmospheres. Seen innumerable cup runs when we’ve turned the volume up. Seen loads of league matches at the Lane doing the same.

Don’t know why our fanbase is so sensitive about this.
Because we are sensitive? We’re convinced that it’s us against the world.

there was great noise at the start of the 2nd half but all that noise left when the Fleck statue got passed so easily luton scored

but what annoys me about the "football in the library" is similar to Deadbat you could go to Middlesbrough & Luton. there home stadiums will be crap. & i was thinking yesterday as i overheard someone near me talk about it. i think because we only see highlights of archive seasons & there normally only cup finals or best league games of that season. we are lied to in thinking it was always that way.

my guess, is that i think football fans are potentially not more intelligent arsenal fan tv proved that wrong 😄 but we are more interested in the football itself & analysing the game. i might be quiet. but the internal monologue doesnt shut up

There’s very little tempo in our games; it’s very pedestrian. It’s a combination of being 2nd (and the expectation [of winning again]) that comes with that and the fact it is really quite boring stuff to watch.

The atmosphere only improves if we are the underdog, go down to 10 men, an on-field scuffles ensues or we go 3 goals up.

If we slip to third it’ll probably pick up all of a sudden.

Sick of people mentioning this.

Why does singing impact our players ability to score a goal? Why does it impact our managers ability to pick the right team and make the right substitutions?

Luton fans didn’t make 10 seconds of noise the entire game and they won the game. Clearly Blades fans not singing is the issue

The players need to give us a reason to sing, get a bit of fire in their belly, a bit of passion and determination to get us off of our seat.

Stop suggesting the fans need to be better, we have 28k fans each week, that’s good enough for the players to realise who they are playing for.
Whilst I feel a good atmosphere can lift the team, I do agree with the majority of what you're saying.

It should not be difficult to get yourself pumped up for a game that could potentially be the difference between you being a Championship, or Premier League footballer next season. Oh, and let's not forget however many £thousands they get every week for playing a game, which for them happens to be their job, for us it's what we spend our recreational time away from our jobs - plus a portion of wages from said job - playing/watching/discussing.

Pissed off because these players gave shown they are as good as any in this league, yet they can't pull their fingers out their arses.

Another classic one is "what's going on behind the scenes", what a load of rubbish! If anything this should give them more incentive because failure to win promotion could cast us off into financial oblivion .
