For me, it's a simple case of none of the womens team are ever going to play for the senior mens team, so there is no real connection. The u23's & u18's will hopefully make the step-up in the future so you feel like you want to see their careers progress. Not the same with the women

Just bumping this up as it's happening this Saturday 😁

A rough calculation of the number of "greyed out" seats on the ticketing website (it's been a slow afternoon...) suggests about 2,000 tickets have been sold, which would not be bad at all. If I remember right from the social media posts promoting this game, the previous record attendance for the women's team was about 1,500.

UTB(W)!

I was really looking forward to seeing the women at the lane for a quid. But instead took up an offer to go and see the RL at Old Trafford. £51+ for a day out in Manc was too good to refuse.

Wow, heres me opening the thread thinking 'ooh, good, looks like it's got a bit of interest' 🙄

Hope its a decent crowd numbers wise and hopefully encourage a few repeat followers.

Just bought my ticket now, and whilst not all the JSS blocks are available, those that are on sale are pretty full. So looks like a decent turn out.

And in a very random turn of events, a friend just told me she played for the Blades 20 years ago. Blimey.

They interviewed one of the women players on Radio Sheffield tonight.
She said she grow up in Wickersley Rotherham and her dad was a Blade so she followed suit and used to attend some matches as a girl.

She came across really well, seemed genuine, downto earth, humble and really excited about playing at the Lane.
She said according to the ticket office 3000 tickets had been sold so it’s guaranteed to be a record crowd.
To be honest just listening to her genuine enthusiasm was a great advert to persuade Blades to support the event.

Watching it live on YouTube, one question, to be a camera man for sutv do you have to be pissed or is it a bonus if you are.
Liverpool have just scored again, it seems defending from crosses at Sheffield united is institutionalised

I’ll be glad when this games over and the social media team can get back to the proper team. They’ve pushed this lot this week.

Keeper looks tidy though.

What's this in the air at the ground today?

Some nice moments. Someone gave a few spare tickets to a family outside, and the little girl ran in after her big sister really excited.

Disappointed to see the time-wasting (Liverpool keeper booked), players feigning injuries, and gripping opponents’ arms before chucking themselves to the floor and getting a free kick. Probably naive to hope that wouldn’t be happening.

I partly went because of a vague connection to one of the subs. If I thought she was going to get on, and there weren’t any other matches, I’d go again, but only if it was in Sheffield.

Unfortunately time wasting and feigning injuries is part of the sport these days. Needs stamping out.

Liverpool were much more athletic. 1st goal was soo bad to concede, tiny keeper essentially got lobbed, we were all gobsmacked. United are also painfully slow at running compared to Liverpool.

The atmosphere was brilliant on the whole. I have never seen a match with as much time wasting in my life! 7 mins added time should have been about 12 mins! Liverpools keeper had a big part to play in the time wasting and finally got a yellow card to the crowds delight.

The ref was extremely poor, seemed very biased. We only got decisions really from the linesman. Quite a few times she should have played advantage but pulled back for free kicks for silly niggles.

Also there was a strange point near the end where Liverpools keeper "went down" and gingerly bowled it out of her hand into the path of one of our players. Before feigning injury and ref blew. About 5 mins wasted through injurys and then the ref gives THEM a free kick!?

All in all it was a good day out. Hopefully more matches at the Lane in future. Hope in future they start including women's and men's matches in season tickets then we can really say we are Sheffield actually UNITED.

Agree with most of the above. A good first half but the game petered out second half as Liverpool were just too strong and professional having taken the lead. Better in every area.

Folk say United were poor but I thought they just played a better, ruthless side. I don’t watch much of this league, but on one showing it’d be remarkable if United finish ahead of these.

Wish they would open up a separate website for the women's team, don't see why it should be on the normal sufc website. The standards are so low it practically a different sport.. It's like watching 11 brewsters

Difference is that there is a path for the Academy teams as they feed into the first team…

I fail to see the difference between a path for male players through the academy sides and into the first team, and the path of the female players through the RTC and into the first team.

Are you confusing a clubs route from junior to first teams with a teams route through their respective league structure, the two are very different.

The woman’s first team players aren’t looking for a route to the first team, they are already there, they are looking to get promoted from the FA Women’s Championship to the Women’s Super League.

If you don’t want to go to Women’s football don’t go, there is no need for an ill-informed comment to justify your choice.

If you ain't bothered about the womans team, how does it affect you if they are on the club site?

The website for the club they are apart of

but surely it can’t come as a surprise?
It’s better to deal with reality then you can devise a beneficial strategy going forward
The facts are that most people support United to see the star players in the 1st team….. with 25K willing to pay high prices each week.

Regards the other teams under the SUFC umberella…like the womens team, Academy/ reserve teams, junior teams
surely most Blades spiritually support them but it’s not strong enough to pay money.

Don’t see how that fact is depressing.

Remember the 2011 FA Youth Cup semi final….Sheff Utd versus Man Utd (with Pogba, Lingard and Morrison)
This received publicity and captured the Blades fans imagination leading to a record Youth Cup 30K crowd.
This is what is required for the SU women. An event or fixture to capture the imagination ie a fixture where if they win they are promoted
or maybe England just need to win the womens World Cup to start an avalanche of interest.

Another option that might help promote the women’s gene is to include womens games free of charge within the season ticket price.
Then play the womens match before the mens game at BL. This might build up interest, but then you’re promoting their product as a more sub standard support act.
Also I’ve heard that there would be logistic problems having to use 4 changing rooms at the same time. Doubt we have the room.

The other method is powerful over the top promotion…like what Sky did with the mens game….it took a few years of Sky telling everyone the PL is the best league in the world and they have this skill of making every single game appear exciting. The BBC are heavily sponsoring the womens game, there’s much more on tv and even radio, so it’s definitely making progress, so that’s a positive.

Regards the SU v Liverpool game I’ll wait until the day before and if I’m not doing anything then I’ll probably go myself just for the

To be honest I agree there it's a great opportunity for the likes of Hallam or Sheffield FC to have a boost of attendances I don't know the cost of tickets in those leagues but surely under £10?
8 @t Sheffield FC.

Good crowd yesterday and a nice occasion. Lots of families etc. Took the 3 year old for her first ever trip to the Lane. She loved it (particularly Dahool- Meet her at the Love Parade) but had enough after 20 mins. Big ask for a 3 year old really.

Can’t really comment on the football as didn’t see enough of the game but Liverpool looked the better side from what I could tell.

There is clearly a potential fan base there but they need to find a way to play home games in Sheffield, at least on a more regular basis.

Just find it a bit irritating that's all, I also find it irritating that the women's 'super' league scores are now above the international, league 1 scores etc on the sky sports app, just more stuff to scroll past without reading which I imagine 99% of people who go on the website do

Agree….there’s clearly quite a lot of interest but the elephant in the room is “how real is that interest”?

It’s all well and good declaring yourself as a fan when it’s free or £1 admission.
I watched most of the 1st half on SUTV youtube and I watch the odd bits of the WSL on main steam tv…so in some respect I’m a fan of women‘s football.
but to be honest I’d watch any football for 10 minutes or so if it was free. I also 5 a side football or beach football when it’s on tv.

A solution might be to include free admission to women‘s matches in with the price of your main season ticket but even then I wouldn’t go unless there was a more pressing reason. A better solution might be to move the womens league into being a Summer time game but logistically that causes problems.

At some point you would expect any club to study the economics (financial benefits) of having a woman's team.
You would think yesterdays match made a loss…..otherwise they’d play all their matches at Bramall Lane.

Appreciate it improves a clubs image and it’s noticeable that our neighbours Sheff Wed show almost zero interest in their women‘s team.
But it’s difficult to put a quantifiable financial benefit on what image improvement has and how it benefits the first team.
Will be interesting to see if concentrated media promotion can grow a sport and how quickly it happens.
