Next youth player/s to break into squad next season?

Feels like it’s now or never for Buyabu & Sachdev (hoping he’s back on the mend). If they can’t break out this year then I’m not sure it’s going to happen for them at this level.

There’s another crop of really good youngsters that need good league 1 loans - I’d include Marsh in that as I think he’s benefit playing week in week out rather than sub appearances with us.

Interested to see how Baptiste gets on this season.

With so many broken through in the past 2 seasons it could be limited for youths.
R/S will want experience in his first season, lot to prove.
I’m guessing his front foot tactics will filter through to be played in the Accademy teams.

Lamine Sidibe is the 18 who has impressed me over the past couple of seasons
Missing from todays scholars turning pro
Wonder if he's been poached by a Cat 1?

One will probably be on the bench a lot but I can't see him starting much unless he scores a few in pre-season. Other than that I can't see any of the current development team pushing for a start or regular place on the bench either. Caceres may well feature on the bench.

Marsh is about where Brunt and Arblaster were before the seasons that decided their future. All 3 are good technically but not top tier athletes. Arblaster took a huge step up in adult football and it looked easy for him, Brunt has had to drop down. Be interesting to see which way it goes

Arblaster was far more athletic than Brunt.

Neither is going to make a top 2 division career based on it though. It's their technical and tactical ability that will get them there
Marsh has bags of technical ability but he lacks experience at a decent level. He was wasted in our development team last season. He will be a good player one day but he needs to up his protein intake. He would get muscled off the ball way too easily in the Championship.

Thought in the cup games last year Marsh looked a long way from the championship, he needs a season out on loan. One is further forward than him and he needs a good loan as well.

I don't think One is actually any further along in his development, he just has the physical attributes instead.

Marsh seemed like he had a good loan spell at Fleetwood from social media posts.

although just checked and Wikipedia has it as 11 appearances, 1 goal.

Good to get these tied down

Sasnauskas has the potential to be very good. He made the step up from the academy to the development team two seasons ag towards the end of the season and slotted in right at home. He needs a loan spell as he's proven himself at that level despite only being 18. He's been one of the stand outs.

That jevan Beattie looks to be scoring a lot. Has anyone watched him in u21s, what’s he like?

Saw Brunt play for Borehamwood, in their win over York City on Tuesday. He played well and controlled midfield well. Technically he looked sure of himself, and can probably have a decent career at this level, or at a push league two.

Our average age isn't old, but we haven't done a lot to blood youngsters this season. The likes of Seriki, Brooks and Peck have done well, but they were already established seniors before this season. The former two are about to enter their last year of contract and we I think we have some persuading to do in the summer if either are going to stay.

Ryan One was people's guess in this thread, but he only managed half the games of the previous season, before being sent on loan.

Rather than turning to youngsters, we've gone for experience and signed short term fixes in Mee, Ogbene, Phillips, Riedewald, Rothwell, Ings and Bamford + a couple of more loans.

Think Wilder said in a recent interview that we have the 5th youngest squad and need to add experience so I expect that trend to continue.

I do think we need an experienced centre-back (but would hope we go late 20s rather than mid 30s) but I think it's really important we don't sign any more players who can't run in other positions.

The Rothwell signing doesn't reassure me at all. On the, admittedly limited, evidence so far I can't see a single attribute he brings that improves the squad.

Challenge is balancing staying competitive and blooding younger players.

Assuming you have Bamford and O’Hare next season. You then lose Ings. You potentially lose Campbell too.

The cost effective thing to be doing is giving those spots to Oné and Marsh.

Then you have a question over Cannon. If you want to change the dynamic of the forwards do you try to sell Cannon at a loss (vs what we paid, rather than accounting loss!) and bring in someone else at a more cost effective package?

Example
Ings - 30k
Campbell - 20k
Cannon - 20k

Swap out for
Oné - 5k
Marsh - 5k
Maja - 20k

Only representative figures but you get my point, you get 2 fees, maybe 8m total for the two aforementioned if you’re lucky. You save 3.5m per year in wages. Offsetting that you pay 1.5m on wages and a signing on fee for Maja.

Can’t say Ings will be missed. Campbell has been very in and out. Maybe Maja is more dynamic in our team. Bamford and Maja start as a two, O’Hare behind Bamford if a one and the younger two sub in and get minutes as appropriate.
