Having looked through the European Leagues, it may be that the Swiss League offers some value/gems (subject to the usual Work Permit requirements):

Riccardo Calafiori 20 yrs old - Basel - LWB/LCB - Italian u21 International

Fabian Rieder 21 yrs old - Young Boys - LCM - Swiss International

Ardon Jashari
20 yrs old - Luzern - DCM - Swiss International

Max Meyer 27 yrs old - Luzern - CM

Kastriot Imeri 22 yrs old - Servette - CM - Swiss International

Zeki Amdouni 22 yrs old - Basel - ACM - Swiss International

Zan Celar 24 yrs old - Lugano - CF - Slovenian International

Tosin Aiyegun 24 yrs old - Zurich - CF - Benin International

Bradley Fink 20 yrs old - Basel - CF - Swiss u19 International

Meyer failed miserably at Palace I think? He was young though and clearly had talent.

I know nothing about this lot, but we need quite a lot of cheap players so I hope our club know who they all are!

Calafiori a victim of mourinhos (only prefer old cunts) strategy (see also afena gyan and villar).

Reider is extremely well thought of, reckon his next move is a big one... but many thought that about Berge.

Apologies, I was going to write a more detailed bio/description for each player, but got waylaid. Something is currently shitting on my front and rear lawns at Casa Copernicus, and i'm currently in the process of a.) trying to discover the culprit and b.) disposing of the oomska. Anyways, enough of the idle chitter-chatter & off we go.....

Riccardo Calafiori 20 yrs old - Basel - LWB/LCB - Italian u21 International.
He was extremely rated as a youngster at AS Roma, but suffered an ACL rupture in 2018. He possesses the speed and strength necessary to thrive as a modern full-back, and contributes to both the defensive and attacking phases of the game. He has impressive technical ability, good dribbling, accurate crossing and a powerful shot. Off the ball, he has the power, stamina and intelligence required in defence. He is reputed to have a good personality and character, both on & off the pitch.

He's 6ft 2 and because of this is used by Basel as a LCB in a 3 or as a LWB.

He's featured 21 times in the League this season & 6 times in the Europa Conference League. He has also played 3 times for the Italian u21's this campaign.

Basel bought him for £1m last summer, and his dream is to one day play in the PL.

There is more than a hint of the Anel's about him, I think.

Fabian Rieder 21 yrs old - Young Boys - LCM - Swiss International
As Tarqs has already pointed out, he's not a secret & is interesting a few clubs.

He graduated from the BSC Young Boys academy in 2020, making his first-team bow for the club in October 2020, aged just 18. In the last 2 1/2 years he's come on leaps and bounds.

This season Rieder has 7 goals and 4 assists in 29 league appearances for Young Boys. and played 5 times in the Europa Conference League. He went to the World Cup with Switzerland playing twice. He's made a further 2 appearances for the national team as well as 8 times for the u21's.

He has a keen eye for a pass that allows him to play his teammates in on goal from a variety of angles, and has a natural ability to cut open opposition defences. His link up play is calm and collected, and his positioning is often calculated, allowing him to make a nuisance of himself in the opposition half quite frequently. He excels in terms of key passes (1.93 per 90 min) and crosses (3.8 per 90 min) which further underlines his creative qualities. Defensively, Rieder seems quite capable and willing to put in a tackle, with the midfielder amassing 2.55 tackles per 90 minutes played as well.

Young Boys play a 4-1-2-1-2, with Rieder sitting behind the forwards, at the head of the midfield diamond, or the part of a 3 in a 4-3-3.

Yes, this is exactly the kind of signing we need. One or even two that fit this criteria. Nice info.

Ardon Jashari 20 yrs old - Luzern - DCM - Swiss International
Jashari is another player from the Swiss League that has attracted the attention of a number if clubs . He is left footed and plays the DM/CM role for Luzern. He's at his best sitting in front of the defence, playing as a play maker/orchestrator. But he can also be a box to boxer if needed.

He is blessed with pace, a good passing range and positioning. He is technically strong and has a great work rate.

He's played 31 times this season for Luzern in the league. He went to the World Cup with Switzerland making 1 appearance.

This season, he has averaged 1.9 tackles and interceptions and 1.0 key passes per match in the Swiss top flight.

All ages we need to look at no more 30 + crocks looking for a last payday unless its casamiro 😁

What??? Is Nicolaus_Copernicus not good enough for you? or are you saying he's not european?:)

Thank you. I'm grateful that you've picked up that slight. I decided not to respond, although I've made a note of it in my personal journal.

I spend the best years of my life doing multi player posts about random european/south american footballers, with snazzy vids and this is the thanks I get.

My fingers are calloused stumps due the amount of typing that I do, but all i get is barbed comments and kicks in the balls. On Porktalk I'd get gifts and thank you cards. Possibly even chocolates.

Young Boys at the Wankdorf

Lol

Kastriot Imeri 22 yrs old - Young Boys - CM - Swiss International
A right footed midfield player, he can play a multitude of different roles, from attacking 8 to inverted central midfielder coming in off the left, and does so with an energetic style and technical skillset. He is also a dangerous threat from set pieces.

He currently plays for Young Boys having transferred from Servette earlier this season for 3.5m CHF, which equates to about £3m.

Last season he scored 11 in 26 league games, this season he's scored 4 in 23. He went to the World Cup with Switzerland and has played 6 times this season for the u21's scoring 2.

For Young Boys this season, he has played as a LCM in a 4-3-1-2 formation, and for Servette as a LCM in a 4-3-3.

Offer them all a contract and see he calls back!! 😀

These all sound so good I’m beginning to think you’re actually a Swiss football agent.

Now these are the sort of posts we should see more often!!

Send it in to the club, I have suspicions that the club will be well behind others looking at players like this and these should be the targets to go for.

A foreign player, playing in the Swiss League, who plays over 90% of minutes for his club would gain just 6 of the 15 points needed to qualify for a post Brexit Work Permit.
There are no extra points for Youth Internationals.

Riccardo Calafiori - FAIL (which I think must be borderline)

Fabian Rieder - PASS

Ardon Jashari - PASS

Max Meyer - SETTLED

Kastriot Imeri - PASS

Zeki Amdouni - PASS

Zan Celar - FAIL

Tosin Aiyegun - PASS

Bradley Fink - UK NATIONAL

Those players who are Swiss Internationals would be more hopeful of securing a post Brexit Work Permit.

Any player who has played 40% or more of national games would qualify of right.

I'd love to see players the calibre of Calafiori at the Lane. Is there an appeal process with the work permit points or is it a simple yes/no based on points?

I know, I've got a computer program that tells me the scores of any player in the world for UK work permits. 👍

ineligible (< 10 points), can appeal (10 – 14 points) and eligible (>= 15 points or auto pass).

Riccardo Calafiori is currently 9/65, but that will alter depending on what Basel do in the European Conference League & if he plays.

Zan Celar is 9/65.

Fabian Rieder is 24/65.

Ardon Jashari is 20/65.

Kastriot Imeri is 17/65.

Zeki Amdouni is 17/65.

Tosin Aiyegun is 15/65.

...but what about the excreta on the lawn ?

Yeah his time has been and gone. Also for whatever reason he has barely played much football since he has been at Palace and has been through 4 clubs in about 3 seasons. He keeps signing 1 year deals, I assume expecting to attract a better club at the end of each deal.

You need to send all this info to Hecky - I can't believe we have this level of knowledge at d Lane

Love to see this kind of post. Its now your official forum responsibility to halt all drawn out work permit discussions. ⚔️

Calafiori starts at LWB & Amdouni at the let side of a front 2 tonight v. Fiorentina in the 1st leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Fink is on the bench.

Basel are lined up 3-5-2, but I expect that to be more of a 3-5-1-1, with Amdouni dropping into pockets behind the CF.
