FOUR PL CLUBS IN FOR LUNDSTRAM
Four Premier League clubs are considering a move for Sheffield United contract rebel John Lundstram.
After six months of negotiations, Lundstram has failed to agree an extension to his contract, which has now entered its final year.
If talks remain at a stalemate, manager Chris Wilder could be tempted to accept a fee this summer, rather than let the Liverpool-born midfielder go for free next year.
Lundstram received rave reviews in his debut season in the Premier League, scoring five goals, with three assists in 36 appearances, as United challenged for a European slot.

5 goals & 3 assists in 36 games is a great return to be fair to Lundstram.

He's a real enigma, he has almost the full package in terms of attributes (speed, strength, right foot, left foot, physicality, technical qualities, good in the final third) to be a superb midfielder, he just rarely combines all of them consistently over a 90 minute period, or for a prolonged spell of games. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a success of himself, at the same time I wouldn't be surprised to see him warm a bench for the next few seasons. GLTTL either way.

I don't think it's just consistency, he's just not quite good enough on the ball in terms of progression. The reality is that he's still good enough to start for us, and definitely good enough to be in our squad, but I can't blame Wilder if he's not wanting to make him one of our best paid players, and I can't blame Wilder if he's thinking he could find someone better than Lundstram and it makes sense to cash in now.

I'd be very interested to learn which four Prem clubs feel he could improve their midfield. I'd guess Burnley, Newcastle, West Brom and Southampton.

If he feels he can earn more and play more (especially as a DCM where he looks far more comfortable than RCM) elsewhere and wants to go then he leaves with everyone's best wishes.

I certainly think he's replaceable at RCM - my only concern is replacing his goals.

Fare thee well Lunny.

I thought you were an awful player at first. And indeed at Second tbh. But the amount of graft you put in to make yourself into a Premier League midfielder is to your eternal credit. It's obvious from the dip in performance in the second half of the season your contract became your main priority, so best for you to go now before you regress further and no-one wants you, and best for us now you no longer have SUFC in your heart. Good luck wherever you end up, with the caveats that a) It isn't Dirtyville and b) you don't come out pissing and moaning once you've gone.

Don't want anyone at the club that does not want to be here, I could understand his situation if it was after a couple of seasons but he has had one good season.

He should be grateful that he got the opportunities that he has under wilder.

If he doesn't want to be here then let him go for the right price we only want players that are 100% committed.

Can see him excelling at a club. Wish he would stay but if he thinks he’s bigger than the club sell him and we replace.

I agree.
Up to Lunny's agent to get him a Club who'll pay our valuation now.

Agent will have leaked this 'interest', to try and get the best deal, and move things on.
Sky and agents work together, hence Sky Sports understands......

Reminds me of when Stephen Ireland had that purple patch for Man City years ago just after their takeover.

Just like Lunny he saw the club was moving forward and he had to train like 50 Rocky Balboas to keep himself in contention.

Then he faded but people remembered him doing well and he got a couple of big moves to Villa and Stoke whilst his performances regressed to their shitty median.

Hopefully Lunny can do the same - if we can get about 6 mil for him and he can earn a few paydays out of it then I say GLTTL.

He has had 1/2 a good season. Cash in, a key part of SUFC is unity and the desire to play for the team.

I don't blame Lunny this might be his one chance for a big payday. We have seen Wilder wheel and deal, a name goes out and added quality comes in.

He’s been great this last season. Shame he’s chosen to end his time with us in this fashion. In fairness he’s had to win over the majority of fans and Wilder’s trust this last 12 months. He’s not exactly been given everything on a plate, credit to him for that. Does have a whiff of he’ll regret this more than we will, like the Duffy ordeal 12 months ago. Good luck to him, don’t think he’ll ever have as successful a season as the one he’s just had.

Smacks of agent having one last attempt to generate firm offers or get us to meet demands. Personally I'd like him to stay, it's clear this whole contract issue has got to him in the last 6 months or so, fit and happy he can certainly contribute. And RCM is an area we're he's the only specialist really

If his head or heart have gone then we just need to get the most money we can, his agent needs to now work hard to get his move and us the best deal possible.

Shame because initially he really stepped up for the first half of the season. Thanks Lunny for the goals and good games, hope you get the deal your agent says he can get for you

He also seems to be a popular lad - good mates with Baldock (have seen them trapsing round Ecclesall Road together a few times) so think he’d be missed on a personal level.

Having said that they are all grown ups and am sure no-one is going to get all mardy about it if he goes.

If we can receive upwards of £10 million we'll have done well. Not entirely convinced by Lunny, but there's definitely a player in there somewhere, if only he'd reveal himself more often!

I'd cash in on him, despite the fact that he had a decent season, he's dispensable, compared to someone like O'Connell or Egan who are far less so. Everything we had out of him last season was an unexpected bonus considering his lack of any kind of form in the Championship. I for one was shocked if not dismayed at seeing his name on the teamsheet vs Bournemouth.
Either himself or his agent has got delusions of grandeur and might get horribly found out in a different team, as might a few others in our side if they played elsewhere so if he wants to go, let him

I think he obviously improved vastly and had a cracking first half of the season.

Had a purple patch of form and contributed with a few vital goals and assists, for the most part late breaks into the box and being right at the place right time. I know that is also intelligence / positioning / fitness etc. He also played in a system which played to his strengths.

However I just don't think he's that good. If you watch him with time on the ball his vision and passing is weak, he's not adept at taking players on, defensively he's okay but nothing special.

Put him any other team and think he'll struggle.

I think he's much more likely to end up in the Championship in 12 months rather than pushing onwards

He may well prove me wrong, but should be able to get £5m for him in today's market?
