I haven't read everything that McCabe has said but when did he say this? Has he said that we don't have a "Technical board/ Committee" any longer. Sean Thornton might be able to offer more assistance on this as he seemed to be ITK when this was discussed earlier in the season.

I was under the impression that part of the reason for Clough's dismissal was to do with his "failure to inform and make himself accountable to the board". This would suggest that last season there was not a technical team between the manager and the board either, if there was, then it wasn't used by Clough.

On this basis, i am completely surprised and a little shocked that we've again allowed the manager to work independently. If the 3 week inquest (Phipps' words) found this to be an issue last year, why not address it?

Or is McCabe now hinting that we have now appointed a Technical Board?

Jim Phipps stated in January, when asked about transfers, that we had tried to get some over the line, but doing the due diligence takes time.

Could do with some clarity on this.

Don't think it'll undermine him as such, but if it's Adkins that's managing it wouldn't be a bad thing if it does.

McCabe says most of Adkins signings won't have gone through had they had the set up they do now, so at least that offers the tiniest bit of hope that they're on the right tracks and are able to identify poor players.

Whether or not they can identify them before they sign is the important part. That's the quality they're going to need. It's much, much harder than simply acknowledging poor signings with the luxury of hindsight, which is all they've done so far.

That, coupled with the fact that nobody at board level has a clue about football are the reasons that the whole idea will probably fail.

Funnily enough this sprung to mind when i read that... In fairness that wouldve probably been the best position for Robson, he did bring in some quality.... aka blowing the budget...

I'm not sure if it's Scott or Simon, but heard he was a decent footballer and was going to get offered a pro contract as a youngster but career was ended with injury. Can't remember which club it was. Presumably this will be Simon.

He does have more football experience outside of SUFC than any other board members so not surprised he's the board rep on there.

Purpose
- Looking at how we should reshape the team,
- how we should actually look at the recruitment process in way more detail than we did before on diligence.
- make the decisions better and to make them to suit certain areas of the squad that need strengthening

Not being too critical at this stage but i would also expect that the head of Scouting would also be on that committee. He will be the man going out to look at these players and coordinating the scouting of potential players.

I can understand why McCabe wants Scott on the committee too as he's protecting his money.

Incidentally, this seems to be similar to how Julian Winter described the Technical Committee to me back in October 2013 (shortly after Clough was appointed). So perhaps they are going back to this blueprint

I mean if NC had a health problem then that's a 'non footballing reason' but the majority of the above probably are with the possible exception of 'working relationships'.

Could it be that Turnbull is not being included within the technical committee because he will be on his way , the same as Adkins.

Just a thought , as any committee which is set up specifically for player recruitment does need the guy who heads up scouting to be in attendance at the meetings , unless Turnbulls report would be tabled at the meeting by Adkins.

If Scott McCabe is head of the technical board I'll predict right now that we'll get very few deals over the line. It lends itself to an extremely cautious approach, being very protective of any money available and finding fault with every potential signing.
Jumping from one extreme to the other just as this club always does.

Apparently loans have been banned altogether apart from in the January window(!), which is just crazy. Firstly, the loanees responsible for triggering this decision are late 20s at least, on the way down with limited desire - basically the wrong types of loanees. We haven't even signed any younger ones recently. Have they forgotten about Coady? So what we'll see now is the group of quality young loanees who end up in L1 going to our rivals as we don't even compete for them. These will often be players of better quality than we can sign permanently.
This alone tells me that the technical board simply aren't competent and have very little football intelligence. You don't put a blanket ban on loans because two or three loanees of a similar profile all failed.

Second job is making sure the scoreboard between BL upper and lower doesn't have that annoying square with some daft error message in it.
Third job is getting goal replays back on the big screen.

Then they can move onto lower priorities like buying players that aren't total bobar.

The Chief Scout shouldn't be on the board - he should be bringing recommendations to the board along with the manager.

Same principle as business - the person coming asking for money isn't usually on the board.
