I mean maverick in the football sense , not the one in a thousand smack head on self destruct
Im sure we could have found 3 or 4 drug free players
a player who does things different with a ball not with his nose or a needle

I thought the squad was already good enough for promotion but they weren't being managed right?

nearly good enough , we all knew we were 3 or 4 short as just getting in baptiste has proven

I and many others said we could have been good enough with just a few additions , we never said it was good enough as it had finished only 5th on merit , needed some bolstering , but that should have been all it needed

Point is he has been prepared to gamble on at least one maverick, repeatedly - till he totally self-destructed/reached the point of no return.

How many mavericks do you want in a team/squad?

Should transfers on a tight budget be any more of a gamble than they need to be?

I can't see that "gambling" on "maverick"s makes any sense at all.

It's not like we can chuck £1m at some mercurial egomaniac, and then have another go if it doesn't work.

The game used to be full of "mavericks" such as our own TC, Osgood , Stan Bowles , Frank Worthington , Alan Hudson , . The game has moved on and there is no room for out and out maverick players any more , but mores the pity , as they did bring a dimension to the game which is now missing. Also too much risk these days as maverick to me , is a player not having square neck or short back and sides hair cut .

We cannot gamble because we cannot allow a player to play a good game 1 in 5 . Consistency is the key as we are in league 1 and the aim is promotion. Footballers are athletes we certainly do not need blokes who like a pint and a bet , reading sporting life in there spare time . We need athletes not part time footballers who play for us , and think they are better than they really are .

Time and place for Mavericks and it's gone .

i think you are misunderstanding the term Maverick.. these Mavericks didn't only turn up one game in five. the ones that you listed all played for England. i once saw Alan Hudson beat West Germany by himself.. he was dropped for the next game and never played again. Mavericks are players that do something a bit different. like Mahrez
WHF.. you are either a Windup merchant or work for the club.
