The End?

What's needed after today's results:

1. Firstly, Blades to win against Coventry (A) AND Scunthorpe (H)
2. Barnsley to fail to win against Colchester (H) AND Wigan (A) - if they draw both, we'd have to gain +4/+5* goal difference
3. Gills to fail to win against Burton (A) AND Millwall (H)

*dependent on goals scored by Barnsley and United in final 2 games

There is also a way we could get up by only gaining 4 points from our final 2 games, but let's not get into that...

Keep on believing...

...can someone tell me to fuck off.
Fuck off.

Pressure's getting to everyone it appears – Gills lose 3-2 at home to Shrews. It would be nice if at the very least there's something still to play for theoretically for the last game.

Barnsley have Colchester at home and Wigan away. 2 points might be enough to guarantee finishing ahead of us, but might not on goal difference.

Gills have a tougher Burton away and Millwall at home. 3 points would effectively guarantee they finish above us.

So basically we need to win the next two reasonably well and hope those two drop points in all their remaining games.

If there's a positive, which we should be concentrating on, it should be that the manager won't be waiting around 'til the end of May not knowing which League we're in. The players available that he's targeted should all be signed, sealed and ready to make sure next season is promotion. Clear out the deadwood, even those who seem to have decided that these last few matches that they might be looking for new clubs in June/July.

Finish the season with this unbeaten run, as high as possible and look forward, with slight trepidation for what we have lined up come August.

No, it's 'the end' when you're presented with chance after chance to catch up and you don't take a single one. It's like today when the board went up for 4 extra minutes. The kop got all giddy. Why? What was going to happen in that extra 4 minutes that hadn't happened in the previous 90? Fuck all.

Forget the play-offs. We don't deserve it, we're not ready for it and we're not good enough for it.
harsh
but bang in the money to be fair

This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is perhaps the end of the beginning.

Nah just kidding. It's the end.

Cheers. That's two of us that are right miserable twats then :D

Can't complain with the aggression shown: there weren't any shirked challenges. Nor about any lack of enthusiasm. But just wish there'd been more bravery on the ball in trying to create & make things happen. Coutts retreated into his uncreative, uninfluential shell again.

Barnsley weren't all that. They were just solid & compact & disciplined. We never unsettled them at all.
Yeah I thought Edgar and Baptiste were our best players then the rest very average at best apart from Done,Hammond and Mceverley ,sharp all had poor games for me .

If only it was that easy,
What are the odds of him waiting till we're in the first week of the new season for players who aren't going to come any way to make their mind up, and then hanging on till January for incase they change their mind ? .......:(

If that's the case, i'd want him gone.

Though i'd like to believe that the manager now recognises our frailties throughout the squad.
There's no more assessing of the players already here. Clear out the deadwood. No sentiment.
I'm not convinced that any of the six new clubs in this League next season will be runaway leaders.

Should be s totally different scenario this year. No need to give anyone a clean slate etc. He will keep the odd one or two that are out of contract and dump the rest. He will keep Hammond which will piss the majority of us off big time. The big question is the budget. It's unlikely to be substantial but will it be enough to attack the right players? Will there be a transfer fee budget of any kind? Questions I'm sure which will be asked next week. Forget many season ticket sales after the deadline if there's little to be positive about after what has been a thoroughly depressing season

Lyndon , the new six teams coming into the league and the ones already there will be saying the same about us . We could be sussed out very early on .

Our perception of deadwood and sentiment may also differ to what Adkins thinks.

Not clear cut next season far from it , and stil in a Reading mode moment IMO. Will Adkins do best for him or best for the club. One could make him a hero the other get him the sack . We are still up in the air even after all the positive talk , retaric and pathways .

Cannot blame the bloated squad , lack of discipline next season . We have just got to hope Adkins is the man and gets the backing of the board .

This sentiment thing also means Adkins not signing his past buddy boys , who cannot in reality move us forward . If Hammond would come for nowt as a coach , yes think about it , but as a first team player , no chance.
