This season has been terrible from that diabolical opening game of the season right up to now. Oh the players realised oh my I need another contract and started to put more effort in. This proved to be very short of the standard required for us. These players apart from the ones we know should be ashamed. Terrible could not care less attitude and they should be gone soon...I hope!

As for Nigel Adkins all full of bluster and not a lot more. Everything is rosy in the garden...For heavens sake man..It is not. Those interviews make me cringe!

If we are to progress then IMO I feel that he is not the man to get us out of this league he could not motivate anything if he was in charge of sales at any company he would have gone by now. His tactics are non existent his substitutions are very poor.

Come on McCabe get rid of the players that have let us down and get someone in to get us out of this league. I fear if we keep Adkins I will be writing this same post this time next year! Time to go Nigel time to go

Are you asking us on here to be honest? I doubt you'll get any disagreement on what a shite season this has been. I doubt anyone will give any excuses either. No I might be wrong there the Clough haters will.

And also the other old chestnut: ALL the fault lies at boardroom level (& with Clough) - Adkins gets a free pass because who on earth could deal with a situation like this?

(Meanwhile, Barnsley - in crisis just a few months ago - sit in 6th place, as Gillingham crumble, & previously shit Scunny offer the only challenge to the Dingles nabbing that last play-off spot).

Even if there is no alternative to Adkins (a depressing thought, but what is the realistic alternative?), he's been a dreadful let-down so far.

Even the green shoots of recovery are choked off when a bit of pressure arrives on the scene. Pressure makes cubic zirconium...

Let's allow him to carry on taking us backwards "because we've sacked too many managers".
I don't agree we've gone backwards. Stagnated, I'd agree. But I'd offset last seasons utterly pathetic playoff campaign against the culling of the most bloated thing since Sherman Clump went for an all you can eat Chinese.

And the signs are we are gradually getting to grips with the remaining squad.

Despite obvious mistakes, allowing a manager more time to do a job is unquestionably the thing to do in the current situation.

So you don't agree with probably most on here that it has been a shite season then?

If the club is fucking stupid enough to get rid of Adkins (and they are), then I'll just spend the whole of next season trashing the new bloke at every given opportunity on here.

Boy that'll be annoying.....

Yeah, I might join you in that experiment. If everyone is a contrarian dullard then no-one can be. Deep.

Would you give Adkins anymore time Pete after this season, Surely not matey.

Apologies , cannot speak for Pete , who has a excellent perspective on all things Blades.

From my point of view although more than frustrated with Adkins , we would not achieve anything except being financially worst off with paying him compensation if we got rid.

IMO there is not one manager out there who could move us forward . The Warnock marvel at Rotherham has somewhat muddied the waters , as he was in a win win situation . He achieved his aim / task so he is a hero , if he failed he would have blamed the previous management.

Too much risk and to lose with us , so whatever his robustness he would not come to the Lane , and more to the point , do we need him.

Let's give Adkins a chance , as his reputation , his cock is on the block , so he has no room for mistakes . He needs to up his game , but so does everybody else employed at the Lane , and especially our Chairman and board of directors.

Adkins needs help , and if everyone associated with the club learn from this season , all well and good.

Well then we have fundamental differences in how best to manage different situations.

We do. I'll go with the man who's proven he knows how to do more than four times over another stab in the dark.

So you don't agree with probably most on here that it has been a shite season then?

Oh, I agree it's been shit.

I'm just saying Adkins doesn't really deserve the loyalty he's been shown, in the sense of absolving him from all responsibility for our historic underachievement this season.

For all the "sacking club" nonsense that's peddled about us, we seem pretty adept at allowing managers to stumble into underwhelming second seasons (Wilson, Clough...). If Adkins's second season is underwhelming then we truly are headed down the shitter.

But, admittedly, performances have been much improved recently and we do have the makings of a 40-goal partnership up top for next season. So it's not all doom & gloom, despite today's no-show. In hope rather than expectation, I'm imagining some dramatic leap forward next season. It's all down to Adkins's recruitment & McCabe not flogging off what remains of the family silver. Fingers firmly crossed.

Let's have a quick look at the sacking of the previous 8 managers to see what success it has brought......

Aw c'mon alco.

We could have a FRESH START. Bring in some NEW TALENT, and all that.

It's the Blades Way. If the team has been stripped of it's footballing ability by shitty transfers out, recruits duds and bobbins replacements for nowt and the team fucks up the season, sack the fucking manager. Okay, he's not exactly Mourinho, but even lil ol' cynical me has faith in this bloke. I have no faith in the board, mind.

I think we should sack the pitch instead.

Totally agree, pitch out!

I don't buy the cough left us awful players line. That squad should have been strong enough to get out of this Sunday league. He has to go for me. To not make the top 6 is a joke of the wankiest order.

I think its clear it was hard for Adkins to work with this group of players though. The ones that have gone out on loan can barely get off the bench at the clubs they are on loan to.

The old chestnut is pretty about the board is accurate when you consider Adkins was not allowed to bring anyone in during January and followed up with Phipps saying it will take 3 transfer windows to sort this out.

Ah, instead of clinging on to past glories, I tend to side with the idea of looking at the immediate evidence of the poor ability that has taken us backwards to a point where we are going to miss out on the league division three play offs.

Oh aye, not saying it's been an easy ride for Adkins, nor that the board haven't done similar to what they did after Nobson's spendathon & imposed relative austerity.

More that Adkins has been nothing like decisive enough in clearing out the deadwood & in implementing his ethos, & that his use of his limited budget has been uninspiring & inflexible (as well as unsuccessful, e.g. in the case of Dan Burn).

You're left wondering, at times, whether the task is just too much for a clearly decent guy like Adkins, who expects everyone to share his sunny outlook on life, but who's found himself in a bit of a warzone at the Lane. Then, on the other hand, when you see what's happened over recent weeks with his chiselled down squad, you think maybe he is on the right lines (belatedly).

Just saying really that he shares responsibility (with the board, not Clough) for another disastrous season. With his previous record of instant success down in these depths, he should have performed much better than he has done.

i would keep Adkins ahem.. i'll change my mind in five minutes :D for one simple reason
i do NOT want a new manager to come in and give any of these wasters ANOTHER NEW clean slate.. so they can waste another year proving how crap they are. He'd better get rid of the crap though. SOON.

What makes it so hard to swallow is this was without a doubt the most shite set of clubs ever in L1 and it was there for the taking. With the money support, managers and players at our disposal how the hell did we r**k up AGAIN.

To be beaten by Rochdale, Bury, Fleetwood, Gillingham, Colchester, Crewe, Southend, port Vale et al in one season is undefenceable.

So tired, be glad when this season is history and I'm not looking forward to another season of embarrassments.

It's what this club does. It's a losing club with a losing mentality.

He won't, he will keep Hammond and Woolford and McCevely as captain for starters and probabley sign Sammon.
