NO, we still have a chance, unless Gillingham win today, not mathematically, but with their superior goal difference, that's when even I shall call it a day.

It's only over when the team sitting in 6th has 72+ points.

Best point scores the teams close and above can get

If Barnsley win, one of their next games agianst Colchester or Wigan, it's over, so we have to hope for a draw and a lose or two draws, but then we would need to score 5 and conceded 0 to make sure we go above Barnsley.

And we have to hope Rochdale lose one of their games in order to go above them, if they win today.

We just have to hope results go our way and that the Blades keep marching on.

REMEMBER IT'S ONLY THE END WHEN IT'S MATHEMATICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

Benny Hill . Ifs , buts and maybes . Let's just get real . We ain't good enough . False dawn which startedon a day in Gillingham .

Positive - playing in red and white stripes next season . You think of any others.

Technically you're right but today just summed up the season. We huffed and puffed but so many times this season we've been unable to find the winner. Also, to date, and this has cost us on every defeat or draw this season, we've been unable to turn a losing scoreline into a winning one and I find that truly remarkable.

True about it technically not being all over, but when it really mattered we didn't really turn up.

Plenty of huff & puff, & of "endeavour", but precious little quality. And most galling: timidity ruled the day. Presumably it'd be just the same if other sides' slip-ups gifted us another "must win" opportunity.

Gutted right now.

Needed a big performance today but yet again we did not deliver. We were solid at the back but really poor going forward. We were crying out for more tempo. The dingles were no better but they were happy with a point.

This simply isn't good enough for SUFC.

No urgency at all in the second half and no pace really.

The game was there to be won and we probably should have taken our chances better in the first half.

Its been over since October. Automatics were long gone and play offs are entirely pointless

Best thing that can happen is that we get the last two games to play the younger players and finish the season after 46 games, allowing us extra time to build for next year

And in all that, lets hope that Adkins is perfectly clear that any misbehaving over the summer and they're out

Spot on mate you always post what I think .

Cheers. That's two of us that are right miserable twats then :D

Can't complain with the aggression shown: there weren't any shirked challenges. Nor about any lack of enthusiasm. But just wish there'd been more bravery on the ball in trying to create & make things happen. Coutts retreated into his uncreative, uninfluential shell again.

Barnsley weren't all that. They were just solid & compact & disciplined. We never unsettled them at all.

No. And we had fucking better get a Blades kit for next season...sick of that noxious dishcloth being worn currently. Suits the team though.

He's got to go.

He has no control over the dross he manages. None at all. How do you think that's going to change this summer?

No, it's 'the end' when you're presented with chance after chance to catch up and you don't take a single one. It's like today when the board went up for 4 extra minutes. The kop got all giddy. Why? What was going to happen in that extra 4 minutes that hadn't happened in the previous 90? Fuck all.

Forget the play-offs. We don't deserve it, we're not ready for it and we're not good enough for it.

I was worried in the first five minutes when Che produced two lazy flicks which went straight to oposition players and didn't try to win the ball back, I thought "oh oh he is going to have one of those games is he?" to be fair he did then work harder but produced absolutely no end product.

Billy Sharp was for one of the first times since December just not at the races, I said to my mate early in the second half "has Billy been selected whilst carrying an injury or unwell?" There was a definite lack of spark from him today.

Done was poor as was Hammond, Flynn had a Performance the like of which we used to get from Tonge when he played centre mid, always in around the play but not actually effecting it much.

Bash continues to look a better right wing back than Brayford and Coutts had his best game in a United shirt and my MOTM. The defence was solid and despite a couple of times he appeared to be wearing Teflon gloves Long did not have much to do.

All a bit so so and very disappointing when we consider what was at stake.

I think Billy and Che have been worked to the point of exhaustion this season and we simply can't expect them to do it all the time. Who else is chipping in with goals? Where they would have expected some help - Flynn & Done for example - it hasn't been forthcoming. Our dead-ball delivery is still shite and the midfield aren't skilful enough to drive forward and provide service for these front two.

This season has been a fucking disaster. Their performances dotted around the last few games don't change that. It's an absolute embarrassment that we won't make the top 6 in this joke league.

TBF we look tired towards the end of the first half. Flynn looked knackered before we'd kicked off.

Come back Tony Daly all is forgiven

What was worse was it wasn't even a high tempo game to knacker anyone out, hence Mr. 70 minutes Paul Coutts still looking fresh and the best player on the pitch in injury time.

What we're seeing is what usually happens at this stage of the season. The 'serious' contenders (Bradford, Millwall, Burton) who have inevitably had the odd 'blip' - are finding their stride. The 'non-serious' teams like United, Scuntorpe, Gillingham, Barnsley etc. have simply continued the pattern they've shown throughout the season - patchy, inconsistent and not good enough.

It's how football and the play-offs work. Wednesday can afford the odd dropped point at home to MKD or lose the occasional away game and still remain 'in the pack' because they've built up a cushion of points.

We have never had any degree of quality or consistency this season and I'm amazed that anybody still thought we could make the play-offs.

What's needed after today's results:

1. Firstly, Blades to win against Coventry (A) AND Scunthorpe (H)
2. Barnsley to fail to win against Colchester (H) AND Wigan (A) - if they draw both, we'd have to gain +4/+5* goal difference
3. Gills to fail to win against Burton (A) AND Millwall (H)

*dependent on goals scored by Barnsley and United in final 2 games

There is also a way we could get up by only gaining 4 points from our final 2 games, but let's not get into that...

Keep on believing...

...can someone tell me to fuck off.
