So 'Adkins has a first glass degree'

Is that why listening to him is so paneful?

All his clichés are a lot more bearable now we're winning!!

Agree much more palatable . Pity he didn't sort the shit and maras out earlier . When you are winning , and start a Adkin love in , it's easy to forget he has been part of the cause and effect , or was it down to Clough , Board , and a set of disruptive players from day one .

Adkins just earn your money for what you are paid for , or that ITK Sunji bloke or whatever his name is may be right .

Some of us don't forget shit served up at Bury and other places . Your fault Adkins , so bring a fucking smile to us long suffering fans , this season if possible please.

It always amazes me just how many supporters seem to forget the vast majority of shit performances because of a tiny minority of good performances straight after. Fickle, you're not kidding.

Pressure makes diamonds is my favourite Adkinsism

I don't like to be too clever but pressure doesn't make diamonds. Clever Clogs Double Degree Happy Clappy Chairman Posnig just try pressurising water and see how many diamonds result. You need Carbon. Carbon makes diamonds because diamond is an allotrope of Carbon. So is soot, but you would look a complete tit saying "pressure makes soot".

You get a very efficient presure heating and domestic hot water service . This serves the central heating and domestic hot water to the changing rooms both home and away at the lane .

The pressure could be put on the away team by reducing the pressure of the heating system , by closing the isolating control valves so the away changing room gets a lack of pressure , water flow rate so no heating or warn domestic hot water.

This should create pressure on the away team to start off with , due to having no hit water. Any plumbers or heating engineers who do the maintenance at the lane who could help with Adkins pressure statement .

Only a thought to use any advantage , but I suppose they still have outside bogs and tin baths in front of the kitchen stove at Barnsley .

If you squeeze shit hard enough it turns into...well...more messy shit...

Cheers Nige!

Wonder how long it takes though?

He is a card our Nigel with the little ditty statements and comments he comes out with . He will either be a major success and a legend or he will be removed from the premises in a fucking straight jacket and white van . Some love him in Scunthorpe , Southampton , part Reading , Sheffield United , but not everyone . He still has a lot to prove and running out of brownie points , although a couple of convincing wins changes the landscape .

Just because we are supposedly in touching distance of the playoffs , this season to date has been a disaster and disapointement . Let's hope the bloke and players can redeem themselves and we all become converted clappers . Look forward to it with vigour.

People make a living as consultants and management trainers using trite stories and sayings like "pressure makes diamonds", easy to pick up on the internet too under 'smart arse management speak ' . On management/ leadership training courses the presenters trot them out ad-nauseum from their glossy veneer of presentation content and skills; never done a days proper work in their lives and always hated my inevitable question about their careers in front of the group. Bullshitters personified but who can blame them for making a living from blarney.

Adams is full of cliches which he trots out regardless of context and interviewers' questions and for me it seriously reduces his credibility. As someone says above. when we are winning it is bearable but he's been trotting it out all season; it's more South of England than Yorkshire. Recently he talked of the fight, spirit and the quality in the away game at Southend which he said "was a good game from our point of view", after we had meekly surrendered to a poor side.

If the reference to something clicking 8 games ago refers to 3-5-2, Baptiste arriving, Brayford's injury or working with a smaller group all well and good. If it is a dig at Collins then the manager should reflect that it was him who re-introduced Collins to the first team, held him up as a model pro and placed him on the players' council as a link between the players and the coaching staff. It should also be noted that he only played in 19 league games all season so what happened in the other 24 games this season? Collins did not endorse Adkins' managerial qualities, whilst praising Wilson and even Weir when he left so that might have something to do with it.

The best pre and post match interviews by far have been conducted by his No.2 Andy Crosby and the manager should delegate more.

Over 40 games in he's still had fuck all to say but Williams dragged 800 bullet points out of it.

That was a list of the whole seasons Adkin's bingo phrases.

One new one for me
  • a shame the season's going to end
Really, I'll be glad to see the back of it. Would be ironic if we end up getting promoted after the worst season in the worst piss poor L1 ever. I live in hope but I'm so so tired.

Have you never got into an empty lift going up and thought 'I'll just slip one out' and then it stops at the third floor because some lazy twat can't be arsed to walk to the fifth? The look on their face indicates that yes, it does.

Many times, in the hope that someone I don't like is the next person in the lift. The odds are heavily stacked in my favour to be fair ;)

Agree fully with that one Woody. I did find Crosby talking sense and he saw the game same as the fans . Perhaps Adkins should delegate a bit more , as he IMO lines himself up for a fall .

Let's see how we handle the pressure in the next 3 games starting against Barnsley , although the Barnsley game is be all and end all for this season.

Couldn't agree more, i think listening to that he knows we aren't going up but is full expecting to be in charge next season. I think he will need to do it on a tiny budget next season and rely maybe on some expensive loan players just hope we don't make the same mistake with the free players and loans as our only decent signing cost us money.

"Tiny budget" and "expensive loan signings" are contradictory.

“after we had meekly surrendered to a poor side.” Really? I put that defeat down to individual errors at the back (Hammond, Long and Done all culpable) and profligacy in front of goal (Sharp missed 1 on 1, hit post in last minute resulting in their third etc.). I didn’t get the impression of a meek surrender.

Re Collins, it doesn’t have to be a personal dig at him for him to be part of the point being made. We switched to 352 about 12 games ago. Hammond was banned for 2 and then came back. That was a factor. Collins out and Baptiste in was also a factor as it allowed us to play a higher line. Basham’s form at wing back, Coutts and Adams getting their heads down and working harder. A few factors at play there.

It’s not about forgetting the shit performances. It’s about trying to look forward and if the recent form has been good, it inspires hope that we will continue to be good. If form has been shit, it feels like you’re never gonna play well again. Fact is, none of us know how we’re going to do in our next game or next season etc. but recent form is a factor in trying to predict.

I think it’s fair to say that other manager’s with different approaches might have arrested the slide faster and got some better results over a short period of time. But I firmly believe we have a manager who given time, will take the club forward and he’s beginning to show signs of that now as the squad starts to take the shape he wants. Hopefully, he will build on that in the summer and not undo his good work like Clough did in the summer of 2014.

I remember when we first got Adkins I was reading the 'The View From Southampton' and someone was talking about his positivity and 'pressure makes diamonds'. I know for some people it's a bit naff but I rather like it. His interviews may great on some other people (mostly when we're playing bad, I think it's natural for people to get annoyed with anyone at that point, except maybe Jurgen Klopp) but on a good run I feel more excited about the next game than under Clough. Adkins knows we are going out to win it and drawing isn't good enough, Clough seemed to go out to draw, anything else a bonus.

I agree. I love the guy’s positivity. The only downside is that he’s fooled me with it a few times. Listening to him on a Friday has made me thing “yeah, we’re gonna win tomorrow” and then we’re crap and it’s frustrating. But now the performances are improving, the positivity could be key to building momentum. He does remind me of David Brent at times though…

Actions speak louder than words

Talk less. Act more

Peeps may decide to renew when they actually see those actions. Peeps may not based on false promises

What action do you require? The performance on the pitch is improving. He can’t sign anyone right now (except free agents, perhaps a Welsh international striker?). We will see in the summer where we stand on retention, recruitment etc. I don’t get what actions can be undertaken at this stage.

Come on, it's not difficult. He doesn't want the season to end because we seem to have clicked and it's potentially going to finish a few games too early for us to catch up.

Pity Adkins the great motivational speaker didn't get us to click earlier . As some say he is not a Magician or crystal ball reader , just a well paid manager plying his trade in league 1.

No he doesn't want the season to end because if we finish 7th , the season has been a failure , and down to Adkins . Buck stops with him. Pressure , diamonds , working together , united together , how can we doubt this guy.

The buck can't always stop with the manager, though. The vast majority of these players have failed us three or four times now. He's got rid of around 20 players this season and that is a positive on it's own.

I understand that people get frustrated with his interviews (ironically because he's actually positive) but I have faith that he is the man to take us forward regardless of our final position this year and how long it's taken to click. People may think I'm stupid but I have stuck by that opinion from the start of the season.

Same Daz. Admittedly he’s not had the Warnockesque impact of getting the team super-organised and grinding out results straight away but he is very gradually morphing us into a decent football team. Let’s hope we don’t undermine that by selling the family silver (again) and that he’s backed in the summer to complete the overhaul.

Another thing I like about him is his desire for us to play attacking football. He hasn’t always been able to do it with a squad assembled to play counter-attacking 451 but he’s getting there. 2 strikers in the team who both score goals is refreshing.

Interesting how we see things differently at times. I was absolutely disgusted with our performance in the last 20 minutes against Southend, so much so that I decided not to go to the next home game v Walsall. That away performance followed a victory v Crewe and the previous abject away defeat at Millwall. At that time nothing "had clicked" believe me.

I think from the Port Vale game when we first changed to 352 the quality of our football improved (as a spectacle). Problem was that we were getting found out at the back and being wasteful in front of goal (Rochdale away a prime example) and when we tried Collins in that formation, it didn't work at all. Baptiste seems to be a catalysyt in helping the system be effective. I wouldn't go as far as saying the final piece of the puzzle but certainly a big piece (think we could still improve on McEveley, Flynn and Coutts though they've done mostly OK recently). Baptiste missed Crewe and Southend and we were porous again but since he came back it's what 1 goal conceded in 4 games scoring 7 and picking up 10 points in the process?

Personally I think Brayford getting injured has helped, we have been so weak on that flank for months. I never rated Brayford as a defensive full back and wrote on here times many suggesting he would be a revelation as a wing back, yet he was really poor defensively even in that role.

Flynn should be excellent at right or left wing back; he's OK more central but we need to be more ambitious than that there, particularly if we are stuck with Hammond and Coutts. Woolford would be fine as left wing back. Done is not a wing back IMO, nor is Basham though I've only seen him play there once and he did well; surely it's not his intended permanent position, or is it?

I know we are in a tantalising situation where the play-offs dangle just beyond our reach, but thinking ahead to next season and a promotion push, we have to be 50% better than we were at Southend if we really mean to go up. We need a settled system, so Adkins has to identify one and then he has to sign players who can play in their favoured position rather than all these players making do, out of position. 3-5-2 has emerged so late in the season and Adkins is winging it in truth.

Maybe it will all click into place and we will ride the crest of an Adkins wave from hereon in, but frankly we should have been sorted months ago. 3-5-2 is Adkins' last chance saloon and he stumbled upon it. Nothing wrong with that, all the top managers are the lucky managers.

Agree that he's the man to take us forwards. And that it's a long term project.

Looks like McCabe has bought into Project Adkins and is also thinking long term.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating but I'd be amazed if next season wasn't very productive.

If I had to predict it'd be miss out on play-offs, but top 2 or 3 next season.

I just don't buy in to this Adkins respect and love in . He has done bugger all up to press . 99% of us on this forum knew we required a player clear out to move forward .

He gets paid well to perform , so let's hope the bloke ain't arrogant and goes through his own lessons learnt.

In saying all that I am glad that Sanju fella appears to be wrong about the management change , as we are in such a disarray , Adkins is as good as anybody out there to pull us around , who we could afford.

Not a Adkins happy clapper , still think he is a clever twat and smart arse but can live with that if he pulls us around. He is a diamond .
