You said McEveley has been one of our most consistent performers. That was the comment I was referring to. I accept you didn't say all season but the context is more relevant than the wording.

We differ on whether McEveley offers anything to the team/squad. Whether Edgar and Freeman offer more or not is another debate. We will clearly agree on neither hence discussion over.

The fact that we are talking about keeping any of them makes me want to cry.
Agree all three need to leave close season.
Not good enough simple

From the team sheet on Saturday
Mceveley - although he has improved since the move to a back 3. I just think it just better for him to move as he would be 32 by next may & he's not particularly fast now

Hammond - on the wages he is on allegedly 10k. He lsnt the class above to warrant the expenditure & likes of reed/whiteman or lower league "gems" on a lower wages could do same/better job. Like mceveley. Hammond would be 34

Woolford - might as well be called the invisible man. Because I cant think of 1 significant thing he done this season. Surely there was far better wingers out there

Howard - needs to be moved on because with more game time long is getting better & cant see him displacing him next season need competition to stop complacency

Sammon - well I don't think I have to explain this one very poor season no better than Higdon was. Dropped down the pecking order to below Calvert Lewin. I said in jest Back in August if scores a header I'll say "he was up like a salmon" & for a striker whose supposed to be strong & good in the air. he hasnt scored since 28th December. nevermind a header

Edgar will be on relatively high wages. I wouldn't personally advocate signing players with such wage expectations as squad players. They need to be undisputed first picks if we're picking up a decent sized tab for them.

The only out of contract player I want us to keep is Long and Whiteman if he's out of contract. Not sure if he is.

I wouldn't mind either way if we kept McGahey as cover.

I'd be disappointed if we kept McEveley and Flynn though they have done OK lately.

Surely we won't be daft enough to keep Howard, McFadzean, Harris, Kennedy, JCR, Cuvelier, Wallace, etc. as they've not been playing.

It's a sad state to be in when we have people advocating McEveley as a mainstay in our squad. He has improved in the second half of the season but improved is the only word I'd use, he still has a mishap in him in nearly every game I've seen him play and has been let off on a few occasions due to George Longs' saves.

I say all this realising we won't get rid of everyone but that is realistically what needs to happen if we want to get promotion next season.

Keep Long, Brayford if he can prove he's back to full fitness with his old appetite and hopefully playing with better players, Baptiste (if possible), Whiteman, Done, Adams and Sharp. Reed and possibly DCL to send them on loan. The rest I couldn't give one iota about, even though I know we'll keep double possibly nearly treble the numbers I've given. I'd love this club to surprise me this summer but i won't hold my breath.

Realistically, to challenge for promotion next season we need 1 GK, 2 CBs', an outright LB, 2 wingers, 2 CMs' and possibly 1 striker. Yes, I know, I'm dreaming!

I share your dream mate ........ if we don't clear out and rebuild as you have suggested above, then we can forget competing at the top of L1 next season :(

Long being offered a deal is a given I think, Whiteman too. Adkins seems to have made an effort to adapt Flynn to the middle – which would explain why he's resisted shifting him rightwards after Brayford's injury. I expect he'll be offered a deal (on lower terms if nopigfansintown info on his current deal is accurate).

Of the rest, I think either McEveley or McGahey will get an offer but not both, with the rest all being released (Baxter too of course, unlikely to be a low earner). I think Adkins's plan was originally to get Cuvelier more game time with the view to a one year deal, but that's probably/hopefully been abandoned as soon as he started struggling to finish games.

I would disagree mate about the Sharp / Adams pairing ....... just don't think it works as Adams is too similar. I think we need a big, strong, fast CF to play upfront with Sharp.

Don't disagree about a big lump up top - problem is, Adkins hasn't been allowed to bring much in and all the evidence points to him not being allowed many in the summer, other than lots out and a few in.

What we all want is different to what we can actually have, and if we have to go next season with Adam and Billy up top then so be it.

I pose you a question then: Fix the defence, midfield or attack? - the old saying for me is "don't concede, don't lose"

We MUST fix the midfield also - we are sev erly limited to what we can actually do.

Perhaps he is but if he has few takers (and you would expect them to be at our level) then he might have to adjust his salary expectations. He will take the best offer he is given.

United aren't obliged to match his current wages if they do decide to sign him so it then comes down to how long his existing contract has to run.

Of those not contracted for next season:

Hammond
Flynn
Sammon
J Wallace
McEveley
Howard
Harris
Freeman
Cuvelier

To quote Colonel Kurtz, we need fewer men and better.

Flynn's improvement now there's no pressure on him (an improvement not seen in away games, I might add) was predicted by a number of posters. Equally predictable is his return to sub mediocrity if we are dumb enough to give him a new deal.
Flynn improved?? christ.

Heart says different era next season and finally a promotion winning squad . Head says we finish up not having enough investment in the squad and live with the same old same old .

This situation is 50 / 50 with ownership of the situation with both Adkins and McCabe to get it right . Down to trust and McCabe putting his hand into deep pockets again . Quality cost money whether CB, midfield or forward .

It would be difficult if we only needed to cover one area , if truth be known we have to cover all three, as a starter for 10.

It's not often mentioned but we really miss a target man option up front. Sammon has been so ineffective I think we've forgotten what one looks like.
It's great to have that option. We have somehow managed to have some shocking options in this role over recent seasons, most teams that get promoted will have that option over years gone by. Bristol City had Smith, Wendies had Madine and these are two just off the top of my head, we really need to sort a good acquisition out for this role to add to the players we already have there.

Also, maybe this is why our defenders get caught out quite a lot as they don't have an out ball sometimes, this along with our static midfielders, all this leading to them dwelling on the ball?
