Hopefully the link works!

“There have been times when we’ve played really well and lost the game,” Hammond added. “We are playing the right way, we’ve got young lads coming in which is good for the future of the club. That’s good going forward for Sheffield United.”

Yes Dean, there have also been many times when we've played absolute dog shit, Bury and Shrewsbury immediately spring to mind, but there have have plenty more occasions. In fact I'd go as far to say that the number of times we've played gash far outweighs those in which we've played well.

Can't stand articles like this, don't talk about it, do it on the pitch (or in the arena if you're NA) ffs!

Won the last three home games. Oldham, Crewe, Walsall.

From memory two of those three had the fewest away losses in the division.

We scored 8. Let in 2. Six halves of football - the opposition have looked very ordinary in five of those halves (the exception Crewe second half).

Oldham's next away game they drew 1-1 at Burton.

Did the opposition look poor because of what we did, or were we just lucky?

Like Crosby said we're controlling games for longer periods with and without the ball.

It's coming together - too late for this season but it's a good basis for next season.

I know, it's so reminiscent of Barcelona it's untrue. Well in Crosby - you Guardiola, you.

Shouldn't the words after " Hammond added", be, "little to the team?

Or 'so I'm going to do the decent thing and fuck off before Adkins signs me permanently, which lets face it would be a huge embarrassment for everyone '

In our last 5 away games we've lost 4 and drawn 1 with a dubious 93rd minute penalty equaliser which helped with the point.

From memory Bury, Fleetwood, Southend and Rochdale were amongst those games and the opposition looked very ordinary all the time because they are ordinary.

Good job we're controlling games for longer periods with and without the ball.

I admire your 'glass half full' attitude but like you say, too little too late. We also had the performance at Southend sandwiched in between those games and our friend Mr Hammond, IMO, was directly culpable for needlessly giving away their crucial 2nd goal.

Your twisting it again.
Hammond says there are times we've played really well and LOST the game. With the exception of the first 45 minutes v Rochdale I'm struggling to remember which defeats they were.

Bury we were awful - Rochdale, Fleetwood, and Southend we had plenty of chances to win those games.

Fwiw I don't see it as a glass half full attitude - just credit and criticism where they're due, instead of a desperate (and perplexing) desire to find something wrong in everything the club does whether it's season ticket prices, the kit, last minute equalisers, three successive home wins, or anything else.

Still don't understand this hatred of Hammond.

Typical defensive midfielder that fans just can't grasp.

If Claude Makelele played for us we'd say he was shit too.

It is no coincidence that 3 of the most hated players - Doyle, Montgomery and Hammond are all defensive mids. Even before that John Gannon had to endure stick. I honestly think because he has midfielder next to his name, fans think he should score loads and assist loads. That's not what he is there for.

Stuart McCall played the position but was a fans favourite. Probably due to the fact when he won the ball, he had Tonge and Brown immediately showing for it so he could make the simple pass. Job done. Hammond doesn't have that luxury, Doyle didn't after McDonald and Quinn left (which coincided with everybody hating him)

I think what a few posters on here are meaning, is that the fact is its took this spineless shower to realize how to win & control a game,so basically its took them approx 36 games into the season before they have got their act together and realize what could have been, and i for one dont buy into this bollocks that finish the season strongly and take it into next, because half of them will be gone or should be gone, and next season we will have (hopefully) new players come in and they will have to gell together and we start again,so its a vicious circle

Stuart McCall played that position but was a fan favourite. Probably due to the fact that he could move faster than a Galapagos Tortoise with an arthritic knee. McCall Also didn't regularly play simple passes straight into the path of opposition forwards or get booked almost every game he played.

Hammond's legs have gone, he can't run. Four years ago would have been a great signing. He's finished.

It doesn't help that none of our 'midfielders' create or score or help defensively.

I do think a lot of what Hammond does is preventative and therefore unseen, but is that enough to counter the apparent weaknesses in his game such as being dispossessed in dangerous areas, regular bookings, and frequently misplaced passes?

His unseen work may be tremendous - but his seen work is often very poor.

Maybe his most valuable contribution will be getting the most out of our young players by acting as a role model and model professional.

That said it doesn't take much for a section of the fanbase to have a go at a player (or anything else) and Hammond is in many ways an easy target.

Can a footballer who can't run play central Midfield? That's the main consideration above all when looking at Hammond

I think the Star basically got the grammar wrong. It should have read, "Blades deserve better claims" - Hammond

Hammond needs an opportunity to do a cockney walk. That would help him.

McCall was a cut above. A skilful player who'd have probably played at an even higher level if he hadn't had the reputation of being a touch lazy. Hammond has played mainly in L1 and the Championship, in a couple of promotion sides so he's got pedigree but not to the extent McCall had.
