I don't expect to see Basham's contract renewed at the end of the season either – mainly due to the fact he has an extra year if reports when he signed are to be believed.
I don't know how long he's got left, but it sounds like he wasn't confident of staying

A mate of mine texted me a selfie with him and bash late on last night, didn't mention smashed but assumed he was pissed given the time of the message.

Apparently he also didn't hold out much hope that Adkins will be renewing his contract at the end of the season....

If it was a straight decision between bringing in Hammond permanently and keeping an inconsistent and mostly average basham, then it's basham all the way for me. However i think that Adkins will favour Hammond. Sadly.

There are so many managers out there that like to surround themselves with familiar faces. They'll bring in their own coaching team and players that they've worked with before.

It could be viewed as a lack of security and low self confidence. As much as it worked for us in the past with Harry Bassett I believe Clough was prone to this and this may have created cliques in the camp.

Adkins needs to drop the Hammond obsession and seek out other alternatives in the vast footballing world.

It could be viewed as a lack of security and low self confidence.

It could.

Otoh it could be viewed as knowledge and experience of a model professional; a role model who will set high standards* throughout the club - both for young players and for more experienced professionals - and thereby bring the very best out in everyone who is part of the squad.

(Adams has been disciplined earlier in the season. Crosby mentioned an improvement in McGahey's attitude. The management team clearly have standards. Hammond may well be a significant part of instilling and/or maintaining that in the squad and the club.)

*When he's not got the ball.

Basham signed a three year contract in 2014 so it expires next year???

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/27714740

The only possible alternative I can think of is he might be on a two year with a year's option. About three different stories say it's a three year deal, but you don't always get these reported with the optional part, and that was the type of contract we offered to others at that time.

Lets face it the dressing room is totally split. On one side you have those who love Adkins, such as
Hammond,
Sharp,
Mceverley (made him captain and plays him however badly he played in his previous game),
Woolford and also probably Long, Edgar, Baptiste
then those who clearly cant stand him or his methods,
Basham
Brayford (shadow of his former self)
Done (constanly played out of position)
Howard, McGahey, Adams, Coutts and others who have departed Scougs, Mcnulty, Freeman, Wallace and Harris.
We all know that several of those players that Adkins has got rid of, are better than some of those that remain and that they were deemed surplus to requirements for other resons than their lack of ability.
Adkins will surround himself at the end of the season with other players that he is comfortable with, as most managers do. I dont want bto worry everyone, but get ready for one of his first signings, Jonathan Forte. He loves him and had him at Scunthorpe, before signing him for Southampton.

Agree with most of that but not the whole list of players who dislike him, and the Done bit. Whilst he's played out of position it's only due to the long term injury of Kieran Wallace. Bob Harris has barely featured for Fleetwood (due to injury), and Kieran Freeman was back at the club (again due to injury). My point being we have to play someone out of position. By the way, I just wanted to pay due homage to your username. An absolute cracker.

1: Because he's a professional athlete and it will impair his performance and recovery time and general all round health

2: Beause when out in town and smashed, he's likely to say something he shouldn't to someone he shouldn't

Sorry Pete but bearing in mind it's OK for some of the countries leading players to smoke, drink and shag old hookers I think expecting an average third division player to go straight is asking too much. I'm just pleased he wasn't found in the bogs snorting Charlie out a 15 year olds naval. Seems that's how these guys roll.

I don't expect them to be teetotal, but I don't expect them to get smashed in public either.

For me it's the small sacrifice they should make for the hefty rewards they get.

No matter what division they ply their trade in.

NB- I'm ok with them shagging grannies.

When Adkins allowed Harris and Freeman to leave he was playing a flat back four with McEverley at left back. He has since altered the formation to play two wing backs, with Done as left wing back. Freeman was fully fit when allowed to leave and had been one of the better players in the early part of the season. It was a major mistake on the part of Adkins to let him leave. He could have been used as a replacement right wing back for Brayford, when injured, or as left wing back. He is perfect for the wing back role, as he is far better when attacking, than when defending. I believe he could also have been operated in a midfield role, if required to do so. If not in the starting eleven he would have been an ideal utility player for the bench, however his face clearly does not fit. Thanks for the comments about the user name, photo to follow.

Done (constanly played out of position)

Not sure why a lot of people pick up on this as for a reason for due to be 'unhappy'. Done played the majority of his career at left back. Rochdale moved him further forward to left wing due to injuries, he then got goals and was moved upfront. And then we signed him.

The fact is Done can play left back/left wing back as he has done before, so why not play him there? Alternatively we could stick him upfront and drop Adams then put someone else at left wing back who doesn't know the position as much as Done, that way we lose a decent striker upfront (Adams) and make us weaker on the left hand side.

It's a team effort and Done doesn't seem the type to get unhappy about these things, I get the impression as long as he's on the field he's happy.

I accept is possible Done is as happy playing at left back as he is up front, however he was signed for approximately half a million pounds as a striker. He is not a half a million pound left back. He was a bang average left back/left winger at Barnsley, before being sold to Rochdale, where he was again bang average in those positions. We had good left backs in Harris and Freeman, when we signed Done as a striker. We had an excellent striker in Done, when we signed Sharp. It seems its not possible to play both Done and Sharp together, so due to Adkins removing Harris and Freeman, we have ended up with Done having to play left back. Its looking like half a million pounds wasted as I cant see Done ever playing regularly as a striker, while Billy's there.

I agree with your point on Freeman as he's versatile, although he'd be slightly out of position at lb/lwb.

I can't argue with that, you're right. Hopefully Done being a left wing back for us is only temporary. He's definitely a threat up front from what we've seen.

Edit: Personally I can't see us playing 3-5-2 next season

Oh I dont disagree with the sentiment, but when Englands leading players like Rooney, Gerrard and Wilshire are setting the tone it isn't a shock to me that an average third division player is getting lashed. The English disease I'm afraid and one of the many reasons we aren't a genuine world power in football.

Whilst you base your knowledge upon the endless reporting in précis of television and radio interviews, Internet articles/downloads and your own interpretation of what the interviewer/interviewee really meant? Have you considered the possibility that the information in the interviews might just be as baseless as other posters comments? Takes all sorts as they say. Keep it going WHF, were it not for your valuable and sterling service in bringing to us in understandable form the gospel according to Posnig I would have wasted a considerable portion of my life seeking out his pearls of wisdom.

Oh, and can I have a "good post"?

Back on topic, sort of. Is there really credible evidence of Basham being arseholed and being disrespectful and even contemptuous to Chairman Posnig?

I find it amazing that even when a player has a good game there are still fans who can't wait to find some fault or other. Bash is one of the players who gave 100 % on Saturday and if he wants to partake of a few jars after that game, good luck to him.......
Threw cheers to that man, I've never heard such rubbish if Bash was out having a few beers after a performance like he gave!! so what he' s a fit lad is Basham they won't do him any harm.sat night is the only night that players can really have a few beers if they don't have a midweek game, crikey anybody would think they're out on parole

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm not 100% convinced that Done's season as a striker last year wasn't just a flash in the pan. I wasn't at the Wigan game, but whenever I've seen him up front this season you've had a lot of effort, pressing, running, but at times a lack of awareness that you'd expect in a striker, and a lack of goals. I worry Rochdale might have seen that too, hence the reason they cashed in when they did.

Wouldn't say it was a flash in the pan , as he has performed before at Rochdale. Thing is with Done , he can look like a league 1 world beater , when truth be known he is inconsistent , no football brain , no awareness of surrounding play . He is what he is , a average league 1 player , who is neither a prolific goalscorer , midfielder or defender .

Perhaps good bench player , but anything better , he does have to up his game and intelligence. That what coaching staff are to help you with , - improvement. The bloke can certainly be a asset to us if used right .

Round pegs , round holes and all that

UTB

I've changed my mind a bit if it's just a one off occasion. but if this happens with the players after every match they win, getting smashed then it's a problem.

If Bash played like that all the time I wouldn't have an issue with him. I'm disappointed with his overall contribution because he is capable of much better - we just don't see it.
What I see is that he generally gives a decent performance in cup games and is generally solid as a central defender (not as good as Baptiste, mind) but I don't see him affecting the game anywhere near enough when he plays in midfield - whether that is creating chances (like he did on Saturday with an amazing bit of footwork) or scoring crucial goals - like he did Saturday, with the all important opener. He doesn't run beyond the strikers, he doesn't time his runs to the edge of the box (a la Lampard) and smash the fecker home and he is pretty useless at set piece plays, considering his build and height advantage.

Bash has all the attributes to be a decent (note, decent) player at this level and the one above. He is very inconsistent and it strikes me that he would need a Warnock style manager to bring the best out of him week in, week out. Adkins is not that sort of manager - he is not the sort to cajole a player to perform at his best. He will most likely show him a video with a view to inspiring him into a performance.
