Adkins out

I'd go for wilder ,with Deano as part of the front line staff .all true blades would be at the lane ,blades reunited, the city is red and white ,part timers executed before kick offs :)

I will hold judgement on Adkins on how we play tactically to the end of the season now the pressure is 100% off for the play offs.

You may as well say 'I will hold judgement on Adkins now the days are getting longer.' Adkins' tactics will not miraculously change and, if it's down to 'play off pressure' (it isn't), then he's plainly not the man to move us forward.

We might as well drop players who are not to be retained next season either who are contracted or loaned. ( this to include Hammond ).

Agreed but if Adkins is still in place, he won't lose face by dropping or shipping out the stiffs he's brought in. An that includes Baptiste.

Adkins IMO is fighting for his job , reputation and future management potential .

He must have been very close to the sack until we got the - lucky - win against Crewe. I don't think his reputation is as good as some on here think and, post-United, I can't see anybody touching him with a barge pole. The occasional TV studio appearance is all he'll get.

Is it his back room staff that needs a change , with someone coming in with new ideas .

Would that include the scout Adkins brought in from Scunthorpe?

We've never had a pre-season like this for a very long time. With so many players leaving Bramall lane in the summer, it's going to be a virtual "blank canvas" for whoevers in charge come August.
I just don't ķnow whether we should waste such an opportunity on Nigel Adkins.
Do we really want to lumber our next manager with the likes of Hammond, Edgar, Woolford etc? Then the cycle of blaming the previous managers players starts all over again.

The next two home games will see Adkins "luck" run out,two hammerings will see to that.

4-0 at Gillingham and the waffle that came out of Adkins gob afterwards told me all i needed to know where this season was going.................and so after many other dissasterous defeats and after match waffling speeches, how the idiot is still here and claiming we still have a chance of the playoffs is beyond belief.

If the most qualified man on the planet, to get us out of this league is struggling, it shows what a big job it is to turn us round.

We have been progressively getting worse since dropping to this league, and there has been a definite shift in policy halfway through this season, losing experience, replacing it, with kids.

Think his interviews aren`t helping, but any manager losing games is perceived as an idiot, whatever he says or does.

Purely on his record in this league (before this season!), I would stick with him.

i was interested in phil brown's interview after the game.. southend's budget is a quarter of hours.. a fucking quarter!!
i think i will give him until next season but if the board sanction hammond's transfer they will wish i was never born

Cannot even remember Adkins interview but can remember part of Bashams when he said they were just not up for it or motivated . As this was start of a new campaign, great day , brilliant following with high expectations , this should have been the early warning sign for all .

The positives would have been performances like this is not acceptable , but we never hear this .

Disappointment for us all is putting it politely. As it goes next season we should be looking at Betfred relegation odds , never mind promotion.

In a mess and nobody knows what to do for the best .

Would this thread even exist if Billy, Che, or even Flynn had put away very good chances.

He stays and rebuilds the club.

All evidence is McCabe has bought into the long term (now there's an idea) plan.

Better idea is performance targets for next season.

I have to admit that I watched the game on Sky after deciding not to bother seeing them again until they sorted themselves out.

Adkins proved that he is not suitable for any job anywhere. Anyone and everyone can make mistakes but normal people learn from them. Adkins simply refuses to learn from his. Playing Coutts, Hammond and McEveley does not work. They are empty shirts.

Hammond gifted Southend (and others) goals with poor passes, McEverley's poor pass sideways caused Basham to rescue us, gaining a yellow card and Coutts who couldn't win a ball in a raffle. These poor performers get picked without fail when we have better options from the youngsters.

If he can't learn he is of no use to us. Let him go now to give a replacement time to assess the current squad, get rid of the dead wood and rebuild during the summer.

I get people's frustrations, and Adkins isn't without fault, I've said as such several times before. However - changing the manager isn't the answer (not whilst the new one would have to work under the same, clueless, inept, ambition-less board).

Changing the manager now is like going to the mechanic because you're car won't start, but only asking them to replace your headlights.

the whole thing for me is totally dependent upon the hammond situation.. i'm happy to give Adkins more time but if he signs him and we are even top of the league i won't let it go and i suspect a few others will be the same

Who could we get to replace him. - I have no idea . Poor reason to stick with the bloke but I see no viable alternative . Is it his back room staff that needs a change , with someone coming in with new ideas . Daft as it seems and don't shoot me down . Is that man Hammond.

Let's look at them under Adkins .

UTB

A lot in that.

Re loanees - he still wants to play as though the play-offs are possible,.and from him I think that's exactly the right message for the young players in particular - don't give up.

They'll be getting game time anyway, eg last night DCL came on ahead of Sammon.

We don't have much of a choice. We don't have the spare capital to funnel funds away from the transfer kitty to pay for compensation (again) for Adkins and his backroom staff less than a year into a 3-year deal. His backroom staff including Lee Turnbull whom one must assume is working his tits off trying to find players at a fair price who can get us out of this God-forsaken division.

'Adkins Out' isn't as simple as just severing ties and getting someone else in. You can't just sack a manager and that's that. The financial implications of sacking at this stage are ones we cannot afford with such a large squad rebuilding task ahead.

I want to see what a team of his players looks like. Players who respond to his methods like they did at Scunthorpe and Southampton. If he puts together a squad and we see no improvement, by all means call for his head. But I don't feel judging his performance as a manager whilst working with this huge group of bang average slags is particularly fair. That isn't to say my patience isn't thin with regards to our performance this season; it's astonishing that there's not a good enough XI in (what was) a massive squad to beat teams in League One. I just want to give Adkins a chance to do his own thing with his own lads.

For what it's worth, I don't think the pressure is so much on Adkins as it is on the board. I can't see many people wanting to buy many of our lot, so they have to put up or shut up when it comes to wages and fees. I say to them; you want to get into the Championship? On to the Premier League? Fucking prove it. There's a blank canvas here, give Adkins the brushes to paint a great picture. It doesn't need to be multi-millions because it's been proven that you don't need to spend that to get out of here, but don't tie his hands like they were last year.

We did ok 1st half imo, when brown changed the formation Adkins didn't counter it,and it all unfolded and became a car-crash,I honestly can't believe McCabe hasn't pulled the trigger yet,and I'm totally pissed off with the whole situation..giving it a miss on Saturday so I can calm down ,it's beyond me how anyone can be confident with Adkins when you look at the dross he's brought in

Kozzy, old sport! Where've you been hiding?! Hope all is well your end.

Adkins has fucked up. The board have fucked up. The players have fucked up.

This is the worst position SUFC have EVER been in during my entire 32 years of living. Ok we were bottom under David Weir but still. We are now in April and in the bottom half of the 3rd Division.

Sack Adkins? No point really is there.
He's started to bring the youngsters in which we have all wanted for years, he'll have a full summer to sort out "his" squad. Many players out of contract. Give him till Xmas - if we're not in the top 6 as a minimum, top 3 really, get shut.

Can't keep getting shut of shit managers who bring in their own players only for another shit manager to come in and bring his own players in etc.. It's a vicious circle and we've been in it for about 8 or 9 years now. Let Adkins sort this mess out. Give him time.

i've just changed my opinion. those comments about flynn are outrageous.. and i can't stand flynn so he just signed his death certificate with me.

ooh i think i just had a mega flounce.. sorry :D

to get me back onside and i suspect many others he must get rid of
mceveley
flynn
hammond
sammon
woolford
coutts

at least. they are crap the lot of them.

Whatever the boards shortcomings they are not responsible for his bizarre tactics, team selection and his inane ramblings both before and after the games - his signings have been nothing short of disastrous (Sharp apart) - not sure what Lee Turnbull has brought to the party, his coaching team questionable (see any throw in, free kick, corner kick techniques) - last nights goal was purely down to shite defending by Southend) and his total lack of understanding of the fans and expectations astounding.
He appears away with the fairies and doesn't seem to have any realisation as regards the hurt the fans are going through !
As regards a replacement we need someone with an understanding of the club and the fans - Paul Heckingbottom seems to have had no problems picking up the mantle at Barnsley so realistically it doesn't have to be a name as such - Chris Wilder knows the club, knows the fans and knows how to build sides to win in the lower divisions so perhaps he wouldn't be a bad shout !
But one thing is certain Nigel Adkins does not have a clue ! To keep him because we have had so many managers in the past few years is no reason whatsoever !
I do not trust him !
Adkins OUT !

Adkins has started the job of clearing up the mess left by Clough, do I wish he could have shipped out the crap and signed a load of players last summer to lead us to the title? Of course I do, but it's obviously taking longer to sort than we all want and after 5 years in this league it's hard to stay patient.

Looking at the team last night and the bench in particular, the clear out is well and truly under way with more to come in the summer. Like other have said above he will be starting from a blank canvas so next season there can be no excuses. Do I trust Adkins? Well he has the best CV in this division so why would I trust another manager over him? His track record gives me hope at least that given time he will get it right.

Adkins has made OK players into fucking wank unmotivated ones. Its simple for me, either he goes or I do, spent my season ticket money on a golf membership yesterday and feel great for it, already had more enjoyment than the entire season under this clown. If they sack him then Ill find the cash for an ST but if not then Ill just go golfing instead

Adkins OUT !

Would you like to pay for it yourself? Or are you happy to see us shopping in the bargain bucket (again) for the umpteen players we need because we've spunked the budget on compensation (again)?

The definition of madness is...

Other than the spelling of Salmon I can't fault your rational.

Not sure if sacking another muppet and replacing him with yet another muppet will work.

I'm so low I can only suggest we wait until the end of the season and bring Warnock back but we know McCabes ego won't allow that so I'm fresh out of ideas and Bladybladeness mojo :([/QUOTE

I think you are right, other than the appointment of Warnock first time around, this chairman and his board appear to be pretty clueless when it comes to appointing the right man. To be fair NA should have been, but is quickly showing himself not to be. I believe we are clutching at straws if we think NA can turn this round in the summer with a few signings, this is a long term project, with the real possibility of a stint in league two first, as we seem to be getting progressively worse.

He was left with (and this is only part of the story):

Baxter as a playmaker, and everything that comes with that
Coutts as an attacking midfielder who is extremely limited.defensively
Collins at centre half - unwilling/unable to play the designated system and apparently fell out with two managers
Bob, Scoogs, Freeman, Wallace (obviously) - injury prone and unavailable

I think the big concern is recruitment. Why didn't we get anyone in on loan?

Someone posted a while ago that we are not seen as a good place to send young players.

I wonder if, strangely, last night might have been a good advert for the club from that point of view.

Che and Whiteman started and did well - if only Che could score(!), DCL came on and did his confident trick and shot - but should have hit the target, and the crowd were (basically) behind the team till it went flat at 2-1.

And we just take Long for granted now. Dropped a clanger for the first but recovered and played well the rest of the game. Developing a young player with that resilience shouldn't go unnoticed by a Division 1 team looking to blood a youngster in first team football.

Recruitment is key.

Besides that, for me, goalscoring is often overlooked as an area we need to improve.

Keep Adkins - but we need some measure of what's acceptable next season.

Interestingly this seems to be the first real 'Adkins out' thread.

I don't think Adkins realizes how patient the fans have been, even now, And I think a large majority would keep him for next season.

I agree with much of your sentiment in terms of his strange decisions, together with this being our worst season in 35 years. At this point his position is untenable.

However, I'm worried as to who would be the next boss if he is sacked.

The only replacement I can think of is Wilder. Maybe Appleton at Oxford, the fella at Rochdale, Chris Morgan??!!

As an example of how hard it is to think of the right fit for us, think of Steve Cotterill. He stormed the league last year with Bristol City (I can't remember if they threw money at it or not) and also won the Paint Pot trophy. He has very recent success at this level and Bristol City played good stuff. However, there is no way I would think Coterill would be a success here. I think he would be too soft, indecisive and just crumble under the pressure. Would be interesting to see what other fans thought.

So where do we turn. It's open for debate, but we currently have one of our worst managers in the last 35 years if you take into account relative budget, how we've gone backwards since last season, he's been here all season after a full pre-season etc....

but where are the decent suggestions for an alternative?

It's a sad state of affairs.

I think we'll start August with Adkins in charge, I think McCabe looks back and realizes it was a mistake to sack Warnock, Blackwell, Wilson and Clough at the times he sacked them, and will keep Adkins in hope he can turn it around.

I suppose they don't necessarily have to be big names, as the coach at Barnsley is proving. NA has like many a previous Manager, received little help from the board but I presume he was cute enough to know that this would probably be the case when he took the job, and must have been confident he could cope. I have no confidence in him but as we are in a position where we have nothing really to play for, I say give him a chance to try and build in the summer.
