Great goal by Flynn yesterday with an overhead kick. The only overhead kick goal I can remember us scoring was a classic scissor kick goal by Alan Young from the edge of the area in the early 80s. I'm sure there must have been others?

Good thread. I cannot remember many. Peter Duffield scored one I think v Huddersfield (when they played in yellow and black squares) around 86/87. Recall Nathan Blake scoring one too. Agree though we have had a dearth of them. Still love the Brian Deane (x2) overhead flicked goals. Whenever people (not SUFC fans) down play Deano (saying should have never played for England) I show them those 2 goals and the one v Liverpool. Shuts them right up.

Need Darren/Silent on this one re - Overhead kick goals.

Think Deane scored one at Bury second spell - scruffy one; a 1-1 draw I think.

I remember Richard Cadette scoring a spectacular one once, only for the Ref to disallow it for "foot up"

Would probably have been the highlight of his stint here that.

We named Richard Cadette; Inspector Gadget. All arms and legs. No co-ordination sadly. Did score a few goals but cost us a fair whack (Blades Revival money, Brealey at the Roxy and all that?!) - was it nearly £200,000 from Southend?

When Agana came in and replaced him we remembered what a decent striker looked like again.

Rooney in the Manchester derby a few years ago will most certainly take some beating.

That Alan Young one was the best I have seen live. From the edge of the area into the Bramall Lane end goal. Seem to recall it was a tight game and that was the winner.

Darren Silent Blade
Which game was it?
Were we playing Brighton?

Not from a Blade but this is the first one I can remember - at 0.42. Was always known as 'doing a Tueart' whenever anyone scored a similar type at school.

I think it was a 3-2.win against Oxford. That goal was in total contrast to how he performed for us during his time with us.

deano v Bury and someone else , 1988 89.

Klaus Fischer anyone?

The first one I saw 1977 - at the time sensationally, impossibly exotic and creative - and German?!

The disallowed one 1978 - evil bureaucrats

One from 1975 - he'd been at it a while

The one in the 1982 World Cup semi final - the greatest tragedy in the history of football/the Earth/the Universe/the Multiverse that game

still at it in 1990

Didn't David Holdsworth score one against Coventry in 1998?
Has anyone got a video of this goal - very vague memory of it being pretty late on and match winner ... Pitch invasion followed I think

Overhead kicked goals should never happen. It's dangerous play and if it looks like it might not be blown up then any defender has to stand in the arc of the kick and take one for the team or at least feign an exaggerated jump and fall out of the way.

Leicester's goal v Newcastle last week was a prime example. The lad who scored did so well but the defender actually leaned back out of the way slightly so he didn't get kicked.
