Crewe Highlights

Didn't go today (hangover of the decade), highlights make it look like the game should have been over at half time - also nice Nige right to ream out Reed for their second - really lazy tracking.

This is where I get frustrated with Adkins. I agree about Reed but what about their first goal. The two closest to the ball were coutts and Hammond but they made absolutely fuck all effort (no surprise there) to get to the ball. Why are senior players allowed to get away with it?

I've also noted this - My take on this is that Mr Adkins is a bit of a bully - Watching him on the sidelines yesterday, he was constantly moaning and shouting at Adams, Done, Reed and Long but never said anything to Coutts, Brayford, Hammond and Sharp when they made howlers !
Reminded me of Blackwell's time at the Lane !

I saw coutts give him some grief and was expecting him to be whipped off

One week he's accused of being too soft on everyone, next it's that he's bullying the youngsters. I can't think of a manager in recent memory that's given them more opportunities. He wants them to improve – they're far more likely to than any of the older pros, and he's probably best to judge who needs praise and criticism to get them to improve.

I do understand your point, but he does seem to have it in for one or two players especially Done & Adams !
Have stopped listening to his interviews as they are a cross between a match commentary and his oft trotted out corporate speak !

Long looked like a Tyrannosaurus Rex going down for their first goal. He's either got very diddy arms or he needs to learn how to stretch them out to their fullest length.

Yes.

He didn't lay into Reed in the high emotion of the after match interview he mentioned him in passing. Praise as well as Grumble.

It's only an issue if it becomes a regular feature.

I suspect Reed is likely to react positively if anything. He looks like he wants to improve his game and he's also aware that Adkins has faith in him otherwise he wouldn't be getting game time.

A mountain out of not even a molehill.

Can we talk about something else, reeds cross was delightful!

He laid the ball off to Whiteman and then made a great run to get in a position to get the cross in.

I didn't see Adkins pointing out his error for the second goal as just passing comment either. I don't recall any criticism - in fact the opposite- when Hammond has been poor. He's always defended him.

Agree. Hammond was saved by the referee from giving away a nailed on penalty when there was no danger. Coutts never got near to making a tackle or defending in his own box for the 80 minutes before Reed replaced him. Coutts was knackered after a run after about 8 minutes in fact though he did play well on the ball at times. No surprise whatsoever he couldn't finish the game but the surprise was he lasted so long.

I think his interviews betray the pressure he is under these days, the cracks are showing, over-reaction and emotion when his favourite players are criticised and his least favourite players do well. Sensitivity about his team selection choices in fact.

Any thoughts on the closing down?

If anyone can be arsed to do it (I can't), it'd be interesting to see how many goals we've conceded from outside the box this season in comparison to the average.

A deep back four and midfield of arthritic pensioners... Replacing Howard with Long has improved things, but I think Long will be disappointed with his footwork on the goal yesterday. Perhaps he was slightly unsighted.

He almost disappeared after that run for a good fifteen minutes. He lasted eighty minutes because he put little effort in at times.

There must be about 3/4 layers of players before it gets through but I imagine he's disappointed with it. The fact that there isn't a player 10 yards goal side of the player striking it might be a record

What was annoying for their equaliser is that Reed has a little look and sees he's lost his man well before the cross, but does nothing to rectify it and ambles into the area completely unconcerned. Still, at least it didn't stop him getting on the ball and creating things afterwards.

The save from Brayford's header looked as good on TV as it did in the flesh.

coutts is a really tidy player with fantastic feet.. he is probably brilliant in five a sides when he doesn't have to run. however his legs have gone and so on 11 vs 11 on a full pitch he struggles.. hammond does things that i, as a mere mortal, cannot understand so i won't bother trying

In past interviews both Doyle and Collins have marvelled at Coutts in training.

C and A Snigg Hill , Harringtons , Sexy Rexy , Silvers , pubs. everything's closed down, except our back four and midfield . Had the same problem with Mickey Speight and David Brown.:D

UTB
You could always get a decent pair of high waisters and some Slade socks from Mickey Speight's ...

This Doyle quote was never sourced and could've just been made up. (The Collins one I've never heard.)

And anyway can they do it in the arena?

Personally and I am sure most will agree but some players are absolute gash in training but light up on a Saturday, Mark Hughes probably a great example of that. If they can't do it or put the effort in on a Saturday they should not be in training on a Monday. Bin them
