Hammond, I don't think he likes us.

I'm glad and I don't like him. I don't appreciate his pathetic jogging around and lack of tracking runners. I also don't forgive him like the OP said for that challenge at Old Trafford. What a complete waste of wages.

Respected, highly professional midfielder comes to the Lane during the twilight of his career, appointed to player-coach role...

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I'm really worried about the prospect of him re-signing.

I'm not normally one to advocate fan pressure but we must somehow stop the club signing him.

That first fifteen minutes of the second half was inept beyond belief and set the tone for them eventually getting level.

I appreciate his intentions are worthy but he just cannot run or execute to the required standard.

Stop making these expensive mistakes and invest properly in our future.

I just worry that there's no one at the club who will over rule Adkins on this, it seems more likely that they'll give him a budget and let him spend it however he wants within certain wage restrictions. Lowering our maximum wage is something we need to do btw. We should pay good League One wages, not good 'Sheffield United' wages as we currently like to.

Yeah the biggest cheer, outside of the goals didn't help him. But I would love to talked about his recent performances but often ive forgotten he was on the pitch

Is Adkins being stubborn with the Hammond situation . If he becomes or is to become a permanent signing as a player , then Adkins is more blind and deluded than we all thought .

If we were playing well and looked like anything as a promotion chasing side , you could give Adkins some slack in that he knows what he is doing .

The Hammond situation could be signing his death warrant behind closed doors . Is the Adkins , I know best , school teacher attitude shown in his interviews also going to be part of his down fall . I would love to know how he talks and explains things to McCabe and Co.

Adkins and Hammond not my cup of tea .

Adkins has actually subbed Hammond more than once recently. Fitness shouldn't be an issue, so surely it can be interpreted as an open acknowledgement from Adkins that he's not been very effective. Does it give us hope that he won't sign him? Probably not. But it does possibly suggest that he's not rating him as highly as he says he does and that he'll be willing to drop him from the starting 11 next season.

I have a horrible feeling he's already signed a deal for next season. I just get the feeling that this was decided in January. If this is the case then it's a massive blow to our aims next season as he will likely take up a good chunk of the wages in next season's budget.

He hasnt been the total disaster on the pitch that Sammon and Woolford have but for what we will be paying him he could very well go down as the worst value for money signing we've had since Cuelivier . Maybe worse as there is still a small chance Cuelivier will improve wheras Hammond is clearly finished as a professional footballer

Unless he's already agreed terms for next year, and unless Adkins really does need new lenses in those specs, I'm optimistic enough to think we won't sign him. He really does look like he's visibly struggling to me, a lot of the time, since he came back from his ban. And that on top of a ropey enough first run in the side.

Per what I said above (think it's this thread), taking Hammond's time with us as a whole he looks to me like an aging player in a state of accelerated and premature decline, the way some players are at the end of their careers. Some compensate by staying lean and super-fit, and by working like bastards at the strongest parts of their game. Plenty of obvious recent examples at top level and in lower leagues. Hammond doesn't look to me like a player who is very interested in compensating.

Like old cars and (cart) horses, when players go they go. Hammond looks to me like he's on a steep slope to being gone. In a prem squad at the start of this season ? At the minute he looks like he'd struggle to get a game at Portsmouth.

On the contrary, I think he has been an even bigger disaster than those two because he's spent more time on the pitch. At least the other two aren't able to cause much damage from the stands or the bench. That fucker waddles about the pitch getting caught in possession, giving away needless free kicks and passing it behind our players every fucking week. This is by far the greater disaster and is costing us more points.

I said the same in another thread Roy,Adkins is always trying to justify Hammond,a deal must be agreed already

If he's on Twitter he'll probably post a picture of his bank balance later whilst sniggering at all the blades fans. I still think we'd have been better signing Elvis Hammond.
I'd rather we sign Elvis Presley, He'd fit the criteria of the stage of career Adkins signs them at.

So we think Adkins has already signed him and we're sharpening the pitchforks for the hanging mob to chase him out of town?

Get a grip lads!

What about Adkins just talks positively about Hammond, (like about the rest of the players), because that's what he does? He may well have recognised that Hammond isn't the ball winning talisman he expected. He's eventually cottoned on that Woolford is not the answer, so who knows?

Any chance we can just wait and see.......

Ok, thought not.

Good. I'm glad he doesn't like us, and I hope he fucks off at the end of the season and never comes back. He's fucking terrible.

Well I'll miss him! That simple, unchallenged crossfield pass early in the second half, just before he was mercifully subbed, was a wonder to behold. On the South Stand side, his team-mate (I think, Done) was in acres of space over on the JSS. Hammond, displaying technique that the rest of you wouldn't understand (you don't see the work he does) managed to put it 20 yards behind his man.

You had to be there.
Aye couldn't believe it when he got cheered for being subbed also his cross for Billys goal at port vale was one of his highlights

As he was walking off the pitch he was saying "Are you sure 18k people are all looking away whenever I do something well, gaffer?".

I was thinking about making a list of things I didn't see Hammond do in order to properly assess his performance. I didn't see him make a decent attacking pass, so there must've been some great ones.

Im thinkin hard, can anyone name a player in our midfield thats worse than hammond who has top level experience?
In fact forget top flight credentials, just a player worse?
Maybe woolford. ....................

Something HAS to change and it's got to be the manager .

McCabe has to be acertive with this one , as Adkins interviews come across to me that he is deluded ,
Hammond sorry to say is just not working out , a disaster this season , and a complete waste of money ( we supposedly ain't got ) .

Is Adkins a dead man walking who doesn't know what's coming , the same as Clough saga .

UTB

you are right, something has to change.

Adkins is no numpty - but it seriously concerns me that none of our players have made progress under him or the coaching staff.

Billy's performances are expected (and we are paying for it) - Hammond is way off being value for money - ok, so we need a leader, but 3rd tier midfields this season have run us ragged most of the time.

We can't possibly sack another.................can we?

To save Woolford from this harsh reality of worst midfielder, lets class him as a left back on this occasion. :D

George Long and McCevely have both improved, most of the others have treaded water. They weren't good enough last season and they aren't this. That's just because this is their level.

I think we should be more concerned about ongoing poor recruitment (like many before him) rather than inability to bring this shower on.

Am I the only one who thinks Hammond had his best game so far yesterday? No yellow card, fewer stupid free kicks largely due to far fewer attempted challenges overall, passes to no one at all rather than directly to the opposition...

He didn't do that badly but he also contributed very little (unless I missed it all again). As someone said above, twice he had easy passes out to Done and played them not only to kill his run but so he had to turn around and retreat 20yds to receive it. He made a horrendous challenge in the box that in my opinion is a clear penalty but fortunately the ball had run far enough to Long that the ref had an easy enough chance to bottle it and let it go.

We know he's on big money at Leicester and, frankly, players that will come with a price tag should stand out in this division. Same as Sharp does. Same as Brayford did when he arrived. Not like Hammond, who looks past it.

When the positives are: didn't get booked for once, gave away fewer (which is importantly not 0) stupid free kicks, you know you're on to a losing player.

Can honestly say I felt for him yesterday. That reaction when he was subbed was nothing short of embarrassing. He may not be the best but I doubt crewe wouldn't have got through midfield as easy.

Indeed - but Long has always had the reason to improve given game time.
tbf - Adkins has got the best out of McEv - similar to Clough getting the best out of Doyle.

Yes, this is their level.

It's a toss up as to whether Adkins will get the time for recruitment - probably 60:40 in his favour.
