So no loans in. Personally not surprised but is it due to there being no point (chucked in the towel) or the continuing failures of the persons in charge of recruitment?

I heard Adkins on RS at 4.30 tonight. Seemed incredibly confident that one or more would come in before 5pm. It came across as pretty much nailed on.

Given that yet again nothing seems to have happened, I'm puzzled as to why he didn't just say nothing until the deal or deals were over the line. Which seemingly they are not...

If I were a conspiracy theorist I might surmise that Kev having put his men in charge of the money, he may be looking to clip Nige's wings such that he gets pissed off and walks with no compo.

Yep. Why spend another penny now when it's not going to make a jot of difference to this season.

I'm going to re brand him Napkins. He's been making a joke out of his position and the club for 9 months, time to return the favour a bit I think.

Adkins did seem happy but I assume new signings need to be announced before tomorrows match?

7 wins out of 9 needed in reality. We need a bigger makeover than a last day loan to turn us around. Like Ricky said, the time was January and we weren't interested. Automatic promotion was achievable never mind playoffs.

For the remainder of the season I'd rather see us base the 1st eleven around the players who will be here next season. Fuck the loanees or any players who are to be released, if they won't be around in August don't play them now.

Why do people automatically assume that good, fit players are available for loan. There is a reason players are loaned out. It's either due to inexperience, lack of ability or lack of games.

I'm not a fan of loan signings. The majority of them never pay off and I certainly don't want to see us trying to integrate yet another player when we a) have to try and win some games to build a cohesive team and b) the playoffs are gone.

I'm glad they haven't brought another useless journeyman in.

No issue with a lack of loans.

I don't see why Adkins repeatedly sets himself up for a fall though.

Giving the impression you're in for one or two and getting none gives the impression of a lack of competence in getting deals done, targeting the correct players or being able to have sway with other managers.

If he said he did not expect to be active and prefers to look at younger graduates and borderline out of contract players he'd come out looking like a man with a plan. As it is he makes himself look like he tried and failed. Again.

There is no point now, however there is no money for them either.

Loans incoming for the remainder of the season, definite free-transfer signings for next season?

Six weeks basic background into Sheffield United so they're not having to play catch up come June/July?

Totally agree Champagneblade. Just seems incredibly naive on Adkins' part. If there's no money, just be honest and tell us - we might not like it, but we'll understand.

What he's done to this club is not funny, nor is your joke. But credit where it's due, I used to have a pop at your opinions early on this season and as it turns out....

What has Adkins done to the club?

It's not Adkins who does the deal though. He just says who he wants, probably has a chat with them about how they'll feature etc, agrees in principle and leaves it to Green or the surveyor or whoever now does what Brannigan did.

Season died in January due to the utter disgrace of a transfer window that there should have been a public apology for, rather than the complete bullshit Jim was forced to spout.

Pointless waste of wages bringing anyone in now.

I do find it a laughable joke that some see it as down to Adkins that we didn't bring anyone in, now or in January.

You've either got a ridiculous and stubborn agenda, or you're thick as pig shit, to think it's his choice.

Pointless to be honest though quite concerning that Adkins was so positive about someone coming in. Hope we haven't just pulled the plug at the last minute

Pete , agree with you to some extent , but if you are spot on ( your not usually wrong fella ) , is Adkins position becoming untenable because he keeps being let down by them above in charge.

He sounded positive in his interview there would be some movement by tommorow , which I suppose could still happen . Not one of Adkins biggest fans but he does seem to either line himself up , or his continually being lined up . January in the transfer window was the barometer that all is not well IMO . We have either no dosh , or Adkins is not being trusted with the cheque book . Just cannot work out who is fooling who down at the lane.

Are they trying to piss him off , so they don't have to pay compo , or are the board not that clever but just arrogant when it comes to football and working with ( not against ) the manager .

I know what you mean fella, it's very odd that he keeps talking about bringing people in and then not bringing anyone in.

But I look at it by the most logical conclusion: would a manager that clearly knows we need people in, not bring them in from his own choice, or is he being hampered by forces out of his control?

From the worrying things I've heard from inside the club, it sounds like no one has the slightest idea what they're doing, and all the half decent non football people who work there are quitting because of this.

When we say " we will go with what we have" on September 1st this year we will mean it.

Get it wrong this summer and that is it till New year.

Pete, I admire the fact you've stuck to your guns in suggesting those above Adkins could have done a better job be that being open about nil activity or actually getting something over the line if they intended to.

That said Adkins has been backed as much as any manager at this level except perhaps at Wigan.

Wages
How much do you think players from The PL and top end Championship clubs are getting? My guesswork for which I may well be a little up or down but not far off I don't believe:
Sharp 12k
Woolford 4k
Hammond 22k (contribution 11k)
Edgar 12k (contribution 6k)
Sammon 16k (contribution 8k)
Baptiste 12k (contribution 6k)
200k per month

Fees
300-500k on Sharp plus other loan fees

He's been backed but wasted it.
