I thought he looked fairly confident which is credit to him, the coaches throughout the club, and the management.

He tried a couple of fast direct forward(!) passes and a couple of times he played a ball into a good area, reasonably expecting someone to be there - but they weren't.

Hopefully the more he plays, the more other players will read his intentions, and these will connect.

For me the highlight was the pass to Brayford: speed of thought and touch were very good there - also requires someone of the Beard's quality and qualities to be around to pick it up, otherwise you just lose possession and look like an idiot - it really is a team game.

A steady start. Now it's up to everyone involved to help him develop from here.

Apparently just a touch a cramp so nothing to worry about on the injury front. Looked a good player, tall and strong on the ball for a youngster
hope so, saw him pull up after crossing the ball and could see he wasn't right after, was worried it was a hamstring.

Billy worked like fuck and had to wet nurse Adams and then DCL through the game ,the pair of them look thick as fuck with no positional sense or anticipation ,Sharp won a header in the last 10 put it in a perfect place for his partner and DCL was about 30 yards away counting clouds.
Whiteman looks to me a player for the future who can play at least at this level. I haven't seen a single thing in all his games that makes me think DCL should get paid for playing football.
Billy always works hard, just thought he didn't contribute much, till he scored :) I will reserve judgement on DCL

I don't think he did at all ,also laid the ball off for he first goal ,he was struggling with cramp for a good 10 minutes ,but I don't think he bottled a thing all game.

Never said he bottled anything, just said he kept it simple and retained possession, which is pretty much what you'd expect of a lad making his full debut in front of 18,000 plus people.

Nice to see someone come through and play well, contrary to the "they're all shit, close the academy down" diatribe we hear from some round here, because the senior first team players are that much better and should clearly block all chances the kids might get

It Roy of the Rovers was real life, Leicester would get a whole load of injuries, recall Hammond with 1 game to go. He's made captain for the last game, they win the league and the photo of him lifting the trophy is on the back page of every newspaper in the land.

Don't take that bet until you get 100,000 to 1

If you set your standards at third division, this debate will always be relevant.

Well done to Whiteman but let's not get carried away. Just remember how we felt after Louis Reed had made his debut against Rotherham (?) a few years ago. We thought we'd discovered a world beater.

As for Hammond - I'm a little uncomfortable that Adkins keeps feeding us 'how good he is' in most post match interviews. I think he's preparing us for the inevitable. By the time June arrives and he's offered a 3 year deal I will have been suitably brainwashed to believe we've found our own Fabregas.

Hail, the new club saviour
Seven or eight decent games for us and we could get.....what......maybe £300,000 for him

For me Hammond played just as good if not better than Whiteman today. The guy infront of me spends all game waiting for Hammond to make a mistake, then berates him, but when Hammond put in good tackles, headers and played some great passes he's silent.

Whiteman looked good today and played some neat passes, looks to me like a younger Hammond IMO. But I've never seen him play for the youth team so can't really say what type of player he is.

I agree. I thought Hammond was the better of the two. Whiteman did OK. No more. No less. Nice to see the crowd applaud him though. It’s good experience for him and hopefully, in time, he’ll develop into a useful player. He’s shown that he can perform to an acceptable standard in a 3 man midfield. What I liked about him was that he was keen to look for a forward pass. 2 assists is a nice way to mark your first league start.

Let's be honest, the first assist was a product of the ball not sitting up for Whiteman to shoot. Passing to Brayford was a back up.

That said, hit them like he does for the reserves and he'll score a few

Can I just ask, seen a few do it before, how do you make it play from a certain time in the video please?

Get the URL and add &t=30 where 30 is the number of seconds in you want the video to start.

The first goal was a product of all sorts of things including sustained pressure and attacking intent across the team.

For Whiteman's part he showed agility and athleticism to adjust to the bounce of the ball,.awareness to spot Brayford, and ability to control the pass off-balance over such a short distance.

All in a split second.

The second was either genius or jaminess.

I think he was passing to Billy. If he spotted Flynn's run and made that pass on purpose then that really is encouraging.

Looks a prospect, tries to knock a positive forward pass. Well done, hope he's not out for long. More minutes will mean more confidence. Could well be good enough for L1 next season.
Agree with that.

Good composure on the ball and looks like a good prospect to me. He looks to have a good footballing head on his shoulders which is great to see.

Up to him now and how much he wants it.

I was surprised to hear that because, like I said, it was one of his less poor games. He probably felt ill at the thought of being replaced by a child.

It may have been one of his less poor games but I still think that he was the worst player in our team.

A couple of decent defensive blocks didn't compensate for zero awareness going forward, umpteen missed placed passes and no pace. He just doesn't seem to read the game.

Saying all that - really enjoyed today's game and am looking forward to a few sherbets tonight to celebrate.

Imagine it was the famous Johnny Brayford who was sick and still played well? you'd all be itching to suck his cock. Pisses me off how even when a player who played relatively well and was sick too still gets stick. But hey thats us blades fans always need a scapegoat.

I acknowledged it was one of Hammond's less poor games, but fuck me, if that was seen as playing well, I'm ashamed at how far our standards have dropped. He played a couple of decent cross field passes and got a couple of decent blocks and tackles in, but there was still too much hesitancy in possession, too many late challenges and too many times did he miscontrol the football. His awareness is shocking for an experienced player. It's a pity, because the player he used to be, by all accounts, is exactly what we need.

Many have also addressed the fact that Brayford has been mainly shite lately. Thankfully he looked like he was on his way back to being his old self at the weekend. He, along with a few of the others, played like a weight had been lifted. It was refreshing to see.

It is closing down like this that makes me worried that he'll be A) signed permanently B) on very high wages and C) on a two year deal.

He's got experience and strength and is not bad in the air, but we have to be careful about spending a lot of money on players whose physique are on the decline.

Whiteman looks good. If he's the reason we got rid of Dimaio fair play, 1 start and an assist, can't complain. He'll only improve as he gets physically stronger.

He wanted the ball in the same way Reed does, they both want it in tight areas where more experienced players shy away. A few mis-cued passes but you can live with that, a lot of them were meaningful and trying to make things happen.

The latest off the conveyor belt :)
