Good god !!!

If it had been Sammon then NASA would probably be worrying about whether it constituted a danger on re-entry to the atmosphere along with Simmondsen's penalty .....

By the way...Who is Simmondsen?

So fulfilling ones own job description is now something to be commended?

I daren't imagine what this thread would look like if it was a 25 yard bicycle volley.
I think there's a fair point being made here. However short changed we all feel, a young lad was under a lot of pressure there. Now, it's not exactky fighting the Taliban, but in footballing terms it took a bit of courage worth 30 seconds of note on a message board. :)

Well said. Takes a bit of bottle, in the current context of this club. Well done Che, no need fo any negatives on this comment as far as I can see
Apart from the fact it's already been mentioned in the, yes, you've guessed it, the Che penalty thread that foxy set up. There was no need for the ignorant poster to start another thread on it, he could've just added something to the comment on that thread. Words could easily describe this.

He wanted to start a new thread, and because, yer' know, he's the king of the forum and seeks to put on ignore all the mindless peasants, he will do as he wishes. I doff my hat to him, and will follow his lead. All hail the king.

Now how would a posher person have put that ?

we live in the era of vanity and self-publishing. Just off now to finish my youtube video on how to make a piece of toast, which will be on my blog in due course ;)

King of what exactly? He can't be king of twats because there are plenty who would come before him ;)

It's not the Holy Grail, if you want to put someone on 'ignore', then just press the button, it doesn't take much 'seeking'...tsk...you'll never make 'King of the forum' at this rate Barney .

No he's shit and is a symptom of our pure failure over the last 2 years.

I actually think he's a really nice footballer, but like Scougs, one who's physique puts a div1 ceiling on his career potential. He's fine for us as a squad player, but we need players who can lead us up and out of here to supplement the likes of Flynn. Trouble is, we never manage to buy them and we sell the ones we develop internally.

Flynn's long service is a symptom of our wider failure.

You overestimate my typing speed.

It took far more effort  (and commitment  and guts  and determination ) than that - and I don't even have the fearlessness of youth on my side.

hard to believe huddersfield missed their first 3 penalties and we just couldnt get 3 in

Since that day up until this season our penalty taking has been excellent too.

Other than Baxter's at Crewe last season and the one's Billy's missed this year, I can't think if many misses at all.

Shoot out pens have been particularly good (Fleetwood this season aside), the 5 against West Ham were all pretty much unsaveable.. or they felt it at least from behind that goal

Given the state of things on and off the pitch at the moment I thought there was a lot of pressure on that penalty.

I was following on Twitter and thought Hammond might step up, miss, and things would go nuclear.

He did well to take responsibility.

Either that comes from the fearlessness of youth or self-confidence, or maybe someplace else.

I'd imagine plenty of the others didn't fancy it.

(Insert here endless tedious replies about wage-stealing, lack of commitment etc.)

Che did. And scored.

I see it as a step in his development.

The celebration needs a bit of work (get on with the game), but I'm not sure I'd coach that out of him.
Dear old Kev, you ought to be preserved.

Just as an aside, have you ever kicked a ball (straight anyways?)

penalties are always a lottery
when man city beat liverpool liverpool hit what were really well struck shots in the corner but the keeper guessed right
man city hit a couple poorly down the middle but the keeper had dived away to his right

this is why I hate shoot outs
To end a season on hit and miss fortune in the play offs is a terrible way to decide 12 months of hard work

He's probably chipped in to be here, although that doesn't give anybody any more rights than anybody else, as you know, certainly not monarchical ones.

I don't think you're a mindless peasant by the way.

OK. Played at a decent level. Never semi-pro, but alongside some young ex-pros (including a Scottish midget who once told us a great story about being left to mark Mark Hateley at a corner) and wasn't out of place.

I only mention this bc those are really fond memories.

I do think this is an aside - and doesn't validate or invalidate anyone's opinions.

Bringing money up again.

What's that, 4th time?

Your magnificent donating hasn't gone unnoticed, don't worry.

Was the man (with his dog) watching on the touchline ever critical of your performance? If so, did this hold you back in any way?

I remember thinking, "Oh good, the most vital penalty in the club's history and we've got an experienced pro stepping forward to take it," as Don Givens placed the ball on the spot in the last minute of the 1980/1981 season.
Has that penalty reached the goal line yet? Last I heard in 2008, it was just inching its way into the six yard box.

Great that he scored, but his execution looked let's say less than assured

I hope that's just nerves and inexperience and that one did him the world of good

If not, bring Sharp back for the next one quick :)
What's he got to be nervous about? Getting paid several grand a,week for doing fuck all.

Che's take on it

I really cannot believe Fatty that Sheffield United and Radio Sheffield have gone to the trouble of making a whole video interview and uploading it to the official site and YouTube on Che's penalty!

Don't they know how angry that makes us Forum Fans!

Don't they know that he is paid to take penalties! And if he weren't doing that he would be diffusing IED Bombs, like the rest of us!

Makes me sick!!!

Outside of shootouts (where it doesn’t count as a “goal”), forwards should always be desperate to take penalties as it’s a great chance to up their goals tally and enhance their career. Any forward who doesn’t want to take a penalty needs to have a serious word with themselves.

There's the way the world should be - and then there's the way the world is.
