In response to other posters. You've seen fit to post twice to whinge about the contributions of other posters, rather than offer anything on the subject :)

Technically, it was one post and only an observation.

As for Baptiste, I know nothing about him, so I think I'll reserve judgement until I've seen him play if that's OK with you?

Yes, i'm all for giving people a chance, but when you consider the position we're in, the failure to address the key issues in the defence in August and January, deciding to take a punt on a expensive loanee in March is a little bit late. I'd personally be looking to bring in young, hungry players, either from the U21's (or 18's if they're good enough) or loaning in young players with a deal to buy at the end of the season.

This doesn't really serve a purpose other than being an expensive waste of time.
If it's a last push at a playoff place, it doesn't really matter about the young and hungry bit, which should be secondary. and what we should have done before is now out of our hands.

I'll be really worried if our summer signings ticked the same boxes though.

Any chance of it extending into next season? - I'm thinking "yes" if Boro go up.

I'm imagining he's a "characterful" type, given what's been said recently about how demanding it is to play in front of passionate Unitedites.

Young and hungry players, he said.

Players who can play full seasons, he said.

Signed a slow 30 year old whose just suffered a broken leg, he did.

I presume you have seen him for Boro's U21/development team then?

Because prior to his injury he was extremely quick.

I counted two on the thread.

By all means, do as you wish. I will too but have voiced my concerns. Post whatever you wish, it is the purpose of the forum. :)

Has the feel of short term fix rather than long term planning which has been an issue for us for a long time.

However, he has been captain and from what I've seen seems a brave, aggressive player which is something we are short on. Bolton fans say he's quick too although his age and the broken leg might have seen to that.

He'll need two broken legs to be slower than our current CB's!

I think the fact that you have clutched at "a last push at a play off place" with 13 games left tells its own story.

14 points off 2nd.... Is Baptiste really going to make that much of a difference.

I can't imagine we are paying much of his wages, we are simply there to help with his fitness i guess. A bit of a risk IMO with his injury problems, don't be surprised if he pulls up and is on his way north tomorrow morning.

Cold night at the start of March against the top of the league, i'm sure he's got his return booked already

It doesn't matter, but there was only one post on this thread from me. Happy to have your permission to continue :-)

I don't get it? Do you mean it tells the story that we aren't very good?

We may or may not make the play offs. It's definitely doable, and we've signed a player in a position where we are weak.

Even those permanently determined to hate every move the club makes, and including temporary members of that club like yourself, can't have much of a gripe with this one.

As perverse as this might sound do we need a center half at moment? With Baxter all but gone, Hammond failing, Reed lightweight wouldn't a creative midfielder to play with Coutts and Flo or a left winger been a better option?

Just sayin.

He will score the winner in the play off final at Wembley

or go off with a long-term muscle injury after 17 minutes tonight.

Al least he has has some fight about him.

I like the lad already, old school no nonsense!

"...
A 23-year-old man who was arrested at the same time will have no action taken against him.

It was reported that a man was knocked unconscious and lost several teeth in the incident, which happened at 1.35am on Saturday, June 28.

One eyewitness told the Bolton News: 'What happened was virtually under the noses of two officers.

'It was one punch but one big punch.'..."

Fans: We never sign anyone
Management: We are waiting for the right player
Fans: But we need a centre back now, why are the board and manager so fucking stupid, WE NEED A CENTRE BACK
SUFC sign a centre back
Fans: Why have we signed a slow, ageing centre back, why havent we signed a creative midfielder

so hes not slow, has played a level above us for a large part of his career, was signed by the team favourites to go up from the division above us at the start of the season, had a freak injury which he has recovered from and played in under 21 games so we sign him and still people are complaining, all of this, before he has kicked a ball for us......

Amazing.

Solid signing for us and it's only a loan deal which will benifit both clubs.

I was thinking we were not going to sign anyone but is this signing because Collins is struggling to be fit?

I understand the pessimism on here about everything United right now....but I don't see this as a negative. Yes he's had a bad injury, he has proved his fitness by completing 2 under 21 matches, sounds like he could be a class act for us....at last. He's certainly not on his way down the leagues! We won't be signing him permanently...Boro will want him back without question.

Yes it may well be too little too late but let's be positive and hope that he gives us a boost for the rest of the season and we manage to scrape into the play offs!

If they go up, I’m convinced he won’t be part of their plans. Whether he moves to another championship club after remains to be seen. But he started at Mansfield, worked his way to the Prem with Blackpool, has been playing in the championship since and now joins a mid-table league 1 team. I would say that is very much working his way down the leagues.

When was 30 considered "ageing"? Jesus christ

Boro paid money for this guy in the summer.. This is Middlesbrough... Favourites for the title in the league above.

Long injury lay off which could go either way, but better than what we have considerably.

I’m 31 and I most certainly feel like I am ageing! I think this might be the first new signing I’ve called an ageing journeyman who is actually younger than I am!
