that thinks if we ever played an ineligible player no matter what extenuating circumstances we would get docked points in a heart beat

http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foot...for-rules-breach-during-blades-game-1-7750748
Gillingham it seems played an unregistered player against us
its a breach of the rules that the club should have foreseen
Ignorance of the rules isnt allowed in court , how come southern teams get this bias
Rotherham and Hartlepool I believe were docked points for a similar infraction

you either have rules
with the same punishment for all , or dont bother

You'll be shocked to hear this.... But I totally agree.

Would fully expect a points deduction should we do anything, much like we got an entire side shut down for a bit of crowd trouble when MUCH worse goes on elsewhere.

Clubs are treated much more harshly in the lower leagues too as we're much more powerless than PL giants.

It seems quite a fair punishment to me in that it follows the established precedent: points are to be deducted unless the playing of the ineligible player negatively impacted on Sheffield United.

I think the issue is that the FA also fucked up so the FL thought it best to sweep it under the carpet. Seems unfair on the clubs pushing for the automatics though.

its also very unfair on other clubs who also offered excuses , of being unaware of the rules
This isnt about gillingham getting 3 docked as we are chasing them but even handed ness
If you dock Rotherham 3 points , dont fine another club
f you dock Hartlepolol 3 points dont give a suspended sentence This the FA should have realised bit is bollocks
the club should be responsible, in all cases , they all offer up sob stories
thats why club secretarys get paid large sums of money , to ensure everythings legal
If fines and bans were stopped because the FA messed up there would never be any fines
they mess up constantly

Completely agree.

Good being a Blade at times isn't it? Remind me when the bad luck we we brought upon ourself when we smashed those 1000 mirrors in 1926 is up.

Seems like Gillingham made a genuine mistake and there was no intention of cheating or deliberately breaking any rules, so I don't have a problem with the punishment.

I think some on here are convinced that everyone has it in for us!

Honest mistakes happen all the time and the punishment is always a points deduction. Obviously nobody ever plays an ineligible player on purpose, why on earth would they. Making a cock up isn't a good enough excuse, very strange decision.

Agree that some of us think the world is against us but I don't think it's the case this time. As BTL said, didn't Rotherham and Harlepool "make genuine mistakes" but they were punished differently? Personally, if I was a fan of one of the clubs who were realistically challenging them for auto promotion, I'd be furious.

The guy was already registered with the football league , but the FA were not organised enough in authorising the final registration . A timeline had passed since August 15 to Febuary 16. What it does highlight is the FA still doesn't know what it is doing and certainly plays second fiddle to the premier league , but rule the roost over the FL . , in theses cases . Ie . were Sunderland just fined without points deduction some years ago.

The right and wrongs of this is either the outcomes are still inconsistent or one rule for one .

Good luck to Gillingham , but I still have a gut feeling if this was SUFC the outcome would have been completely differant . It's not what you know but who you know.

Do you think Paddy Kenny deliberately took cough medicine to enhance his performance ?

The year, 8926, so essentially, we've got another 6910 years of failure to look forward to!

is that the same genuine mistake ched made thinking hed got the green light
I dare say it was a gemnuine mistake

but

so was rotherhams and hartlepools , theyd argue

its got to be the same for everyone

No, I think he was taking slimming pills and made up the cough medicine story as cough medicines contain the same drug as slimming pills, ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, a decongestant with side effects that include loss of appetite.
