Dropped from match day squad of 18 for last 2 games ...

1. To protect him from the nasty fans.
2. Because he is genuinely now our recognised 5th choice striker.
3. Because we are exploring options to move him on loan elsewhere.

Thoughts ????

Unfortunately an agreement has long since been there for him to sign permanently in the summer.

Probably.

Obviously never been fancied by NA but we seem to be stuck until at least the end of the season, Dronnie.

I think not including Sammon is sensible. He is poor and not part of our future. He is not even a nuisance factor when he comes on. Not sure we can loan him out though. He's not ours to loan (bit like subletting again when you rent a house!) although Derby probably would not care - the major stumbling block is finding a club that would take him.

Be surprised if we see him again unless we get a lot of injuries - Sharp, Adams, Done, Calvert Lewin all will be played ahead of him. I'd even give the young lad Wright a go before him.

Adkins and his back room staff have finally seen and realised what the fans have known for a long time . The guy does not bring anything to the table on match days , and does not even deserve a place on the bench. I know we all may have tried and put a positive slant on him , that he does a lot of good work , that sometimes it is not noticed or appreciated . The bottom line again , is Sammon is not a player who should be in a supposed promotion chasing side . Disappointment all round even more so SUFC have signed him up all season on loan and therefore having to pay the bugger , even if we sent him back . Disappointment big style .

Nowt against him personally , and blame the management more than him , with there perhaps blind faith .

I still think this signing was agreed by Clough and Brannigan long before Adkins came in and was merely rubber stamped when Adkins took over. Adkins may have said no but maybe figured he was a Champ level striker that would add competition.
That's my understanding too.

May have been a signed sealed and delivered done deal before Adkins arrived , bearing in mind Clough was in the new season promotional video and did the retained list before getting the boot.
Perhaps Clough may have got more out of Sammon , who knows . Thinking of Higdon , probably not .

No room for manoeuvre or mistakes in the summer who ever is doing the hiring and firing of players.

Whilst there isn't concrete evidence to suggest this is the case, i will be suprised if it isn't. We were chasing him well before Adkins came in, that's why i think you are right, Db.

If all 4 parties can reach agreement ??????

Or is this simply not allowed ?

It's a standard loan, not an emergency loan. It can only be terminated in the transfer window. It wasn't, so he's with us till the end of the season. There is no recall option.

Thanks for clarifying.

Terrific news. £10k plus per week down the shit pan.

It's the Blades way !!!!

If we were so inclined, we could send him back to Derby (say if he was a disruptive influence, which I haven't heard suggested). But we'd still be paying him whatever was agreed, and he'd be unable to play for anyone other than ourselves.

Given we cannot recall McNulty, and McNulty wouldn't be able to play in any playoff games should we get there, we wouldn't really benefit from sending him back at any rate.

Sammon has qualities, but plays way way beneath his potential. I think a number of managers look at him and think there's a real player in there somewhere.

But I also think it's fair to say that Sammon has never consistently contributed in a significant to way to any of his former clubs. Given that, it was exactly the sort of expensive, optimistic signing we can't afford to make. Given the choice of a League 1 or 2 youngster who may take 18 months to 2 years to develop, or a player like Conor Sammon, we need to be thinking longer term. And our boardroom need to be making that clear to our management.

He promised to be much better, scoring 2 quality goals at Peterboro, but sadly he hasn't maintained that form so that in recent performances, he doesn't win (m)any headers (seemingly more intent on trying to block his man and failing to do that), his first touch is woeful so he can't hold it up and he doesn't score enough, oh and he doesn't have pace, but then none of them do.

The only positive is that he's not our player and hopefully will return to Derby at the end of the season.

Here's an interesting stat, to say Sammon is supposed to be a big target man, he has not scored any of his 6 goals for us with his head.

Wonder if this is linked to the rumour of something else going on that will be bigger than the Ched Evans debacle.

I truly hope, for Sammon's sake, that it isn't and it is actually a confirmation that he is just a useless lump of detritus.
